bitonti
they say Mark is the alpha dog in any situation. Bringing Tebow makes him be a little more alpha. For that reason alone it's a great move. Mark has to step his game up cause competition at every position is what a football team (any football team) is about. No one should be handed a job or a captains patch they have to earn it. Garb
Speaking of team captains.....don't most teams have a vote? I always thought that the players took a vote and whomever was the top vote-getter for their unit, became captain for the year. I 'dunno. Maybe that's just the Patriots way...although I heard other teams use this system as well. Except, of course, the Jets. Rex gives it to the players as a motivational ploy, I think. Bleedin Green
What exactly does anyone expect Sanchez to say? The entire extent of their relationship is 2 days of working out together. If anything, I think he was just doing his best to come up with some bullsh*t to try to compliment Tebow about since he really had nothing legitimate. I get how it can be seen as kind of a shot, but as usual, I think the media is going a tad extreme with trying to make way too much out of it.

You can't force a captain on a team. the team votes and it's obvious. had the team been allowed to vote I'd imagine you'd see captains like Mangold on offense and Revis on defense. JiF
Just watched the video on my phone. Tell me how this was a shot again? Its the offseason. Tebow is a weight room hero. Mark said he's type of guy that is great for an offseason program. Isnt that a compliment? lol And I like how the lady called Mark fragile. You can knock Mark for many things but he's tough little sob. He takes a beating and keeps coming back for more. He's no Tebow...but still. bitonti
Who is they and where did they hear this? trent dilfer said it about Mark Sanchez. http://www.spiritedscribe.com/2011/01/06/the-studious-sports-leader/ 2. Confidence and the Alpha Male To win over the entire locker room and be the leader of the team, a quarterback has to inspire confidence and possess the self belief that he is better than the competition. Perhaps the most challenging members of the team to win over are the very offensive linemen whose objective is to protect you and create the pocket for you to make plays. People can sense when you don’t have it. Dilfer is high on Mark Sanchez (now in his second season with the Jets) because he thinks that the good young quarterbacks of the recent classes, including Matthew Stafford and Tebow, would gladly flip the car keys to Sanchez if they were all getting in the same car. Ryno the Jet
he's a former top 5 pick with a ring - he knows a little about the QB position. Agreed, Dilfer puts more work into QB evaluation than most. I like his take, but it was also two years ago, and before Tebow did his thing in Denver. His tune has changed slightly since that comment. This was from January when Dilfer ranked the top 40 QBs in the NFL. Sanchez was grouped in the "Could go Either Way" category, while Tebow fell in the "Short Leash" association. Mark Sanchez (Jets): Still has a high ceiling in my opinion because of the way he's carried himself and won some huge games, but if the Jets want a ground-and-pound scheme under Tony Sparano, will we ever see if Sanchez develops into an upper-tier passer? Hard to say. Tim Tebow (Broncos): A nice storyline, but was frankly pretty bad as a passer in terms of accuracy. He has to show significant development, hopefully starting with some mechanics issues. No doubt he'll be working hard. Short leash indeed.

Rex's thought that he could bring in outcasts and mavericks has paid off with Cro, but has pretty much burned him everywhere else, particularly with Holmes. He pretty much made his own bed last season with essentially the whole team letting go of the rope down the stretch. But what did he think would happen by not calling Holmes onto the carpet after the Philly game? If/when Rex eventually gets fired, it'll be because he willingly chose to build his team on the backs of bad apples like Holmes. It's hard to even think of five players left on the roster that you would consider a "leader."
