Jets' Ducasse benefiting from extra snaps

Vlad Ducasse has bounced around a bit in his two-year Jets career and this spring has been no different.

Ducasse, who moved from left guard to right tackle last year, has been back at left guard this spring. Ducasse has been working with the starting offense during organized team activities as Matt Slauson recovers from left shoulder surgery.

The 2010 second-round pick was hurt last year by the lockout since there was no offseason coaching. This year, he said he has benefitted from the time spent learning the Jets new offense.

“It feels good to go through this stuff,” Ducasse said last week. “I didn't get to do this stuff until I was in camp (last year). Now I'm doing now and by the time I get to camp everything is going to be rapid fire (snaps fingers). The more reps I can get the better it's going to be.”

Ducasse said he has done drills at both guard and tackle. The Jets have talked about keeping him at one position to accelerate his learning but it looks like that plan has been scrapped. Ducasse said new offensive Tony Sparano’s system is simpler and he feels like he is picking it up.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said Ducasse has impressed this spring.

“He’s been at left guard with Slauson out,” Ryan said. “We’ve put him there and he has looked really good. He has really improved. Even his body the way he moves. He is one of those guys that has made huge strides in the weight room. From conditioning and everything else, he has really stepped it up. I expect him to have the opportunity to compete for some playing time. I’m excited where he’s at.”
