Assessment of J Abe?

So what is the assessment on Abe?

Gripe #1) always hurt. This year so far so good and seems to be playing through some minor dings.

Gripe #2) quitter. Seems to still be playing with passion while some are teetering on quitting or not giving it their all.

Gripe #3 ) overrated. Seems to have proven that he is still one of the best if not the best player on the defense.

In order for the Jets to do anything in the next couple of years got to keep him. Make Ellis restructure and get rid of Law. Mawae and Fabini restructure or see ya.

I could not disagree more..the pass rush is not great but would be putrid without J Abe. A speed rusher with his talent has value. It is more the fault of Herm and Donnie to not get more out of him. I am sure the likes of Dungy, Gruden, Parcells and BB could do a ton with him. Also does not help when you have D Rob, Reed and Ellis doing next to nothing.

I'm disappointed in Abe's play this season. Sure, he's on the field and plays hard. But it appears to me he may have lost a step.

However, Ellis is, by far, the biggest disappointment on D this year. He seems to have just disappeared for no reason at all.

He plays hard during the regular season, where was he last year in the playoff's?

I'd offer ABE a 4 yr 28 million dollar deal..

I'd then sign Grady jacson or Sam Adams to play in the middle..and TRADE Ellis and a pick for Rivers.

the jets probably could have moved abe to SD last off-season for their #1, which would have been Merriman, who is an absolute beast at OLB in the 3-4. Merriman is turning into everything Abe was supposed to be when he came out of college.

Abe and Ellis are both suffering this year statistically, though each has done his part to hold the outside edge. they aren't getting beaten, they just haven't gotten the pressure. One huge reason for the drop-off is the absence of Ferguson, who already has more QB pressures than all of our interior D-lineman combined. He was a pocket collapser that forced the QB outside the pocket and into the waiting arms of our DE's. When the Sack exchange was at it's best, we had Salaam and Lyons, then Later Klecko playing the role of pocket collapser. Reed Pouha And D-rob get little upfield push and so Abe and Ellis are forced to chase too often, letting opposing QB's dump it off or throw it away instead of trapping them inside and forcing them to pull the ball down and eat it.
