Ravens | J. Lewis and Billick no longer on speaking terms

Sat, 10 Dec 2005 07:54:40 -0800

Pat Graham, of The Daily Times-Call, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Jamal Lewis and head coach Brian Billick are no longer on speaking terms. To talk to each other, they go through an intermediary in running backs coach Matt Simon. On the surface, the feud has to do with Lewis' workload this season, but there's more to it than just that. Lewis thinks the Ravens lied to him. He feels the team promised to negotiate a new deal for him and has failed to do so. Lewis has been constantly lobbying for more carries, but it's easy to see why Billick has ignored the requests. Lewis is averaging a career-low 3.1 yards per carry and just 15.3 carries per game. Billick reasoned that Lewis' legal troubles set him back this season, and that's why he's having a down year.

Billick's Intimidation Tactics Questioned --

Sat Dec 10, 2005 --from FFMastermind.com

Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun reports a lot has been said about the heated interview Comcast SportsNet's Sage Steele had with HC Brian Billick after the Ravens' victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. It was obvious that Billick's intent was to embarrass Steele over comments she made about QB Kyle Boller on a local talk radio show. Apparently, the intimidation didn't work. Steele was greeted by an ovation from a lot of players in the locker room Wednesday, her first day back there after the exchange. There were also some high-fives delivered, and some chest bumps among the players. Some players said that Steele had said some things on the air they wanted to say but couldn't. Steele got a lot of positive comments from players, and according to team sources, from several assistant coaches as well. Billick's behavior has been accepted by the organization, just another tactic of intimidation from a person who wants total control. But wouldn't that behavior be more appropriate toward his team, which is one of the league leaders in penalties?

WHo is to blame??
