PFSIKH
Lucchino has a built in excuse for the next few years.....doubt the Sawx spend any money this off season They'll figure out another way to make more money, like selling old pieces of the greem monster or something Boston isn't about winning titles anymore, it's about making the most profit And what team isn't? The Sox will spend some to try and retain Ross and Ortiz. Who knows maybe Ellsbury can be retained for a decent price. There are some nice players that can help, but no one outside of Hamilton that screams 'go get...like now'. Hamilton would be a nice piece and would allow them to flip Ellsbury, but I doubt he goes to Boston on a short contract.
faba
CSNNE.com STAFF REPORT FOLLOW ON TWITTER @CSNNE On a normal day, Bobby Valentine's comments on WEEI this afternoon -- that he felt he was undermined by his coaching staff; that he regretted his early season comments on Kevin Youkilis -- would be big news. Or semi-big news. But that all went out the window when cbssports.com's Jon Heyman reported that the Red Sox will fire Valentine soon after the season ends tonight. There was no immediate confirmation of the news, and Heyman said general manager Ben Cherington had no comment when contacted. But it's been widely expected for quite some time that Valentine would be dismissed, and the team's dismal play down the stretch -- the Sox enter tonight's season finale having lost 21 of their last 28 games, and Heyman reported they've been outscored by an astounding 147-83 margin -- seemed to seal Bobby V.'s fate. More to come . . .
