TURNOVER TURNAROUND: After two games with no turnovers, the Jets defense came up with a season-high four takeaways - two forced fumbles by John Abraham, who also had two sacks, and interceptions by Ty Law and David Barrett. Abraham, making his free-agent push, increased his total to 8-1/2 sacks.

"When a team like that is forced to pass, to me, it's like a field day, time to get my money," Abraham said.

The Jets had a season-high six sacks, all in the second half.

DINGED 'D': The defensive line might be in rough shape for next week's game at Miami. DE Shaun Ellis (hamstring) and DT Dewayne Robertson (bruised thigh) are banged up. They will be re-evaluated....TE Doug Jolley, a former Raider, dropped a gimme TD in the end zone....Rookie PK Mike Nugent struggled all day with kickoffs, putting one out of bounds and several short...The Jets scored in the first quarter, a field goal, for only the third time.

LAUNCH FROM HOUSTON: Houston, who replaced Curtis Martin, made his first career start. He capped his day with a 2-yard TD run. Houston on Martin's pregame advice: "You're a good back. Just get out there and see what you see."

Backup FB B.J. Askew, used as the tailback, replaced Houston in the fourth quarter and did some heavy-duty running. He bulled his way to 54 yards on nine carries.

WARMING UP: Offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger called the game from the coaches' box, not his usual spot on the sideline. "I have it in my contract that, when it's under 40 degrees, I get to stay inside," he joked.

NONSENSE NORV: Dumb decision of the day: Norv Turner opted for a PAT in the fourth quarter, trailing, 19-9. The situation screamed for a two-point conversion. The only thing dumber than the decision was his explanation.

"We thought about (a two-point try), but with a nine-point game, it's still a two-possession game," he said.

Huh?
