Clay Buchholz

They are both 27. Flops? No. Clay has shown more. Hughes one decent year was more a product of the Yanks offense than Hughes pitching.

Lets be honest....Hughes will be starting a post season game, Buchholz will be watching

Clay is the best the Sawx have, but that's not saying much

Hughes is only starting a postseason game because his team is better. He's a JAG on A bad team.

And the Sox have some pieces still.

Only in Carl's world are the division leaders a bad team. Let me guess, Carl, the Sox are the best last-place team in baseball, right?

I should have been a little clearer. He would be a JAG on a bad team. Yankees have a solid team. Not championship calibur this year but good enough.

And, No. The Red Sox are terrible.

What does that have to do with anything?

Plenty of crappy pitchers have started playoff games.

Actually, Buckholz is 2 years older than Hughes. Buckholz is 28 while Hughes is 26. Hughes turns 27 next June while Buckholz turns 29 next August.

Pitchers with longevity usually hit their prime in their late 20s (28/29) and last till 35. So Buckholz is at the cusp of his prime and has to get better soon if he wants to be considered a top of the rotation pitcher. Hughes is still 2 to 3 years away from having to be at that point.

So to call him garbage right now is a bit premature. He was an absolute kid when he came to the majors. He's a respectable 52-36 for his career with a mid 4 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. That's not garbage for a still young pitcher.

Love it. Someone brings up the Sox #2 starter and the response is "Well, he may not be that good, but he's better than your #4!"

Funny, and inaccurate. Just love it.

Phil Hughes was brought up by a Yankee fan. But don't let facts get in the way.

Buchholz was slated as the #3 guy at the beginning of the season. Just FYI.

And Sox fans continued the lame comparison. It doesn't matter who "started it"

Slated? Who cares? He's the #2 NOW. You also slated the Red Sox as contenders in the beginning of the season.

You're right. Comparing two like aged pitchers who arrives in the majors at approximately the same time for rival teams is lame.

And the Sox should have been contenders with the talent and money sunk into the team. Injuries, underperformance and bad managing cost them the season. They'll bounce back. Might not be in 2013 but they'll bounce back.
