There is no doubt that Fiedler will rework his contract.

Jets Facing Salary Cap Decisions for 2006

Wed Dec 14, 2005

The New York Daily News reports Jets salary cap guru Mike Tannenbaum will have plenty of numbers to crunch this offseason. The Jets have about $120 million committed to the 2006 cap, which is projected between $92.5 million and $95 million. Players likely to be released before March ('06 cap savings): CB Ty Law ($7.6 million) and QB Jay Fiedler ($6.1million). On the bubble: ORT Jason Fabini ($3.2 million), C Pete Kendall ($3.1million) and FB Jerald Sowell ($600,000). Players with high cap numbers who could be asked to take pay cuts or be released ('06 cap savings if the latter): OLB Eric Barton ($2.4 million), RB Curtis Martin ($2.4 million) and C Kevin Mawae ($1.1 million). Players with bloated cap numbers who probably will be asked to renegotiate: WR Laveranues Coles ($10 million), DE Shaun Ellis ($8.1 million), QB Chad Pennington ($15 million) and DT Dewayne Robertson ($9.4 million). WR Wayne Chrebet, expected to retire, will save the team $1.3 million after June 1.

A lot of his figures are off.

* Pennington is 12M, not 15M.

* Ty Law is only 1.4M with his new restructure, because he hit incentives which would have made it bad

* Kendall is 3.3M

* Sowell is 391K

* Barton 1.4M

* Martin 2.2M

Also, the point EVERYONE MISSES. Unless there is a new CBA, these June 1 cuts will NOT HAPPEN as the CBA does not allow for it.

D-Rob 9.4 million dollars for 2006. #-o

Since we can't get Bush, D-Rob is the perfect example of NO player is worth the risk to tie up this kind of $ anymore. The #4 pick from 3 years ago has this kind of cap hit, what will it be in '06?

Sure, one of these guys will be a superstar, some will become Ryan Leafs & the rest will be D-Robs. Dress up the "it's not as bad as it seems" comments about our cap all you want. We've got less room than the competition and need more work than most (particularly on offense).

Pass on anyone who's going to command a $10-15M signing bonus who's never played a single down in the NFL. Spend that kind of money on a player who's a known quantity, even if the upside may be less.

No college player deserves $10-$20M in SB alone because he did well against inferior college talent & has a sexy 40 time.

i agree sperm, but bush will get closer to $30M than 10 for a bonus. Bush will become one of the highest paid NFL players of all time without seeing a single snap.

You're right. And that is rediculous. More rediculous are signings like Barrett and McCareins...guys who've played big-league ball and yet are still considered "projects". So much cap space squandered. It hurts my hiney to think about it.

Another great decision by the Jets. #-o

$24.4 million wasted on PennyBoy and DFat.

No wonder the Jets haven't played in a Super Bowl in 37 years.

Question on DRob TX...weren't you for weeks posting that you hoped NE was able to find a way to draft him?

Now the contract would have been pretty much the same had NE been able to move up and draft him wouldn't it?

You are correct on both counts.

I did want the Pats to make a move for him.

However, I would have screamed bloody murder if the Pats gave up what the Jets did to get him.

That's why the Pats backed off. His price was higher than his worth.

And that is crystal clear today. :wink:

I can honestly claim my very first posts on JI were in reaction to the Jet fan claims that moving up to #4 was a coup.... I expressed that my only fear was that NE would do something similar, and did NOT want to give up two 1sts, let alone change to do so....

Top 6 players are not NECESSARILY a bad idea--- we paid Sey what was in 2001 an extremely rich contract and it's been worth every penny.... but the risk is high enough that trading that many picks.....

Again, keep in mind, with the closest equivilent NE had to the pick package the Jets used to get D-Rob, NE effectively got Warren, Wilfork, Samuel, and Wilson---- that's 4/11 of our starting defense for cripes sake---- for WAY less cap money per year.

Hate to rub it in, but I remember when Jets fans were trying to rub in how big a coup getting D-Rob was....

Anybody catch Wilfork's, Warren's, Samuel's and Wilson's performance today? =D>

Yea, but I'd rather have a underachieving, work-out warrior like DFat instead of these 4 guys. :shock:
