QBR: Sanchez better than Brady?

It was a wild week in the AFC East. The division when 3-1, and the New England Patriots (3-3) were the only team to suffer a loss.

So which player had the highest Total Quarterback Ranking? It was the Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets. Sanchez threw for just 82 yards and two touchdowns while New York grounded and pounded the Indianapolis Colts, 35-9. The safe, efficient performance earned Sanchez an 86.6 QBR.

Here is how the AFC East fared:

Brady threw 58 times and lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 24-23. Brady made a couple of costly picks, which is expected when you throw that many times against a good defense.

Tannehill had another good performance in a win over the St. Louis Rams. Tannehill threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns against a tough defense.

Fitzpatrick did not have a good performance but led the Bills to an overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The Bills needed this win, which is most important.

QBR is a really weird stat. The one thing I do respect about it is that FO and ESPN have admitted that they've kept the initial methodology very broad and loose because they realize it'll have to be refined over time. Still part of me wonders if FO attached their name to this strictly for publicity purposes, because their two key metrics are not only more refined but infinitely more useful. Contextually QBR is essentially useless for now.
