Marcus McNiel - OT

Position: Offensive Tackle

School: Auburn

Status: Senior

Height: 6-9

Weight: 335

40-Yard Dash: 5.00 (EST)

Positives:

Marcus McNeil is a colossal tackle with a punishing style of play, and he is more willing to lay his man out than contain him. Even if someone manages to survive the first contact on his feet, McNeil has the ability to hold them at bay with his massively long arms. He is quite possibly the best run blocker in the upcoming draft.

Negatives:

McNeil occasionally has trouble against speed rushers that avoid his first shot, and has shown problems against the spin move because of footwork that needs improvement. He's far from a liability in pass protection, but it's definitely not his strong suit.

Overview:

Marcus was coveted by NFL scouts in his junior year, and very likely would have been a high first-round pick if he had entered the draft. He was named to the first-team All-SEC squad by several media outlets.

Wnated to get an opinion on this kid from our draft guru's.

In the play around rough list i made a couple days ago McNeil ended up at 6 behind Bush, Brick, Cutler, Leinart and Ngata.

Some will say this guy can't play LT but i don't believe that to be true.

Others say he has a bad back but he hasn't missed much if any time due to it.

He is very athletic for a man of his size and hasn't given a sack up in 40+ contests. He is a mauler in the run game.

Many of you know I am a fan of DBrickashaw, but i think sincerely McNeil will have a greater impact earlier (but Brick will have it for longer). Given time to develop both will have a physical advantage over his opposite man, even at the next level.

Guys like Winston, Joe Thomas are blinding quick and that could push them higher of their own accord. but McNeil from what I've seen could be the most pro ready OT in the draft.

Hopefully I will get a better look at him at Mobile but he might be to elite of a prospect for that.

Like Walter Jones and Pace both Brick and McNeil are elite prospects and McNeil certainly I have as top 10 overall prospect, regardless of what juniors declare.

Sounds good. Thanks B.

Ill be happy with either one.

in terms of the Jets, Jones at LT, McNeil at RT could be a good pair of bookends and probably a better football fit than moving Jones back to make room for Brick. Tackles are tough to find and shouldn't really be played around with that much in terms of side. THe fact that Fabini was a natural RT coming out and was our LT for so long, was i believe to be a mistake of the organization.

Yes also they need to draft a guard after they cut Kendall/Goodwin one or both but you can find guards later or even UDFA.

by the way the Winston i was referring to was Eric not Winston Justice out of USC, (who is also a so called "natural" RT)

All this right and left business some guys can switch back and forth, some guys cannot. I wouldn't take McNeil over Brick, but honestly some scouts would. He's a man mountain.
