Bengals rookie wide receiver Chris Henry was arrested early Thursday by Covington Police for marijuana possession and four traffic violations.

Henry, 22, of Florence, was initially scheduled to appear in Kenton District Court at 9:30 a.m. today. But Phil Taliaferro, Henry's lawyer, said late Thursday from Florida that the hearing would be pushed back to Jan. 13.

Henry was stopped for speeding by two Covington Police officers at approximately 2 a.m. Thursday, said Ken Easterling, chief prosecutor for the Kenton County Attorney's Office.

The officers noticed the scent of marijuana, and Henry consented to a body and vehicle search. Officers found two baggies of marijuana in his left shoe.

Henry was driving what police described as a new Cadillac Escalade, but he could not produce proof of auto insurance and had expired tags and an expired driver's license.

He also was charged with speeding and was scheduled to appear in Kenton District Court on Dec. 28 for the traffic charges.

Henry posted $150 bond and was released. He was at Paul Brown Stadium for the Bengals' practice Thursday.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said late Thursday that the club had no comment on whether Henry would play Sunday at Detroit against the Lions.

"The club is aware of the reports regarding Chris Henry," Brennan said. "In such cases, the team considers it inappropriate to comment further while the matter is still being adjudicated."

Under the NFL's substance abuse policy, Henry, as a first-time offender, would be referred for evaluation and counseling.

Failure to comply is punishable by fine or suspension at the discretion of NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

Henry was the Bengals' third-round draft pick of 2005, out of West Virginia. In 12 games for the Bengals, the rookie has 30 receptions - five for touchdowns - and a 13.2-yard average per catch.

I warned all that wanted to pick this guy in the draft- after his disgraceful performance at Rutgers last year. He was a liability waiting to happen
