Archie didnt want him on the Jets. Peyton and Eli dont make those decisions.

On this point, JF is correct.

Archie came to Parcells looking for a guarantee that if Peyton came out, that he would take him and not trade the pick. Archie thought Parcells would be an awesome first NFL coach for Peyton. Parcells couldn't make that guarantee, probably salivating at the prospect of having Manning to dangle as trade bait instead of Orlando Pace. So Peyton stayed in school.

2. Bigfoot

3. Parcells--Manning

Interesting how you put all the blame on the sh*tty player, yet you don't put the blame on the sh*tty FO and coach who, has the best seat in the house, and have kept that sh*tty QB with no alternatives.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense!

I don't have to stare at their faces all game long and don't have to stare at their faces whenever they make a mistake. DATMOPEMODE is something I can't really stomach much. I blame Sanchez cause I've watched 2-14 seasons and didn't blink. Watching Sanchez is akin to watching puppies slaughtered, or Star Wars episode 1.

My opinion is its the combo of NY + Rex. His mouth gets backlash and since he's been mostly successful, were really havent seen it materialize till now.

this thread title - alot depends on how they finish. if they rally and win out they get to .500 - with revis and holmes gone that's a miracle job for all involved. if they lose out and go 5-11 yes that's a disaster, by any standard.

As for rex, i don't think Jets fans realize how lucky they are to have him. He's not Herman. He's not Paul Hackett. He's a football lifer, with a ring coaching in Baltimore, who sees every inch of the field at once. He is a defensive master, who inherited the run stopping 46 from his dad. He actually wants to be here ( the league is full of good ole boys who hate NY).

How many coaching candidates were ball boys on the Namath era Jets? How much pro football does Rex have under his belt, try his whole life. Rex actually gives a sh*t and believe it or not, guys like that are hard to find.

I know everyone says money will lure good coaches but a great coach will have his pick of jobs. It takes a funny type to want to be in NY, and all the crap that brings. also we look at it purely from the Jets perspective but being in the division with Brady is a tough assignment. coaches take that all into account and a big name like Cowher would never coach the Jets. for these reasons and 1000 more. it takes a foolhardy and confident soul to want to coach the Jets with all their obstacles and baggage.

but what are we talking about the people who want the Jets to fire Rex Ryan don't have a list of candidates to replace him. firing coaches every 3-5 years, is not a great way to run a football team.

Rex is not Herm! At least we're not the Jags! It could be worse! YOUR 2012 NEW YORK JETS!!!

How many coaching candidates have had lap-band surgery? How many coaching candidates have put on a wig and impersonated their brother during a press conference? How many coaching candidates have been embroiled in a fetish video controversy?

we will see this week. If they lose to the Jags then maybe get out the pitchforks.

the next few games say alot bout Rex's coaching ability. a huge decision is naming a starter for Jacksonville.

Disaster or not, the fact that you've tried on many occasions to justify anything about this season as acceptable is insane even by your standards. This far beats out your Dewayne Robertson era.

these are fair points but the squares of the league reject the Jets. even inside the NFL Fraternity, even with his Dad, Rex is somewhat of an outsider. and in the grand scheme so are the Jets.

not trying to justify the season, i'm trying to enjoy it. the weeks when there are no football we can talk about firing people. with 4 games left i'm still rooting for the team to win games. I'm an optimist about the Jets even in terrible times.

Here's a question for all the "it's a disaster" crowd, why, at any point in the past, did you expect better results than these?

It's marriage basically.

Here's how bad this season has been:

Every Jets fan at some point or another has held a resentment towards the Giants simply for the fact that your friends are dickheads. You're always outnumbered and the ribbing tends to be neverending. Maybe you're lucky to have that one other guy in your crew who's a Jets fan there for support, but generally you're on your own.

This past Thanksgiving, we had our usual Saturday night reunion as we do every November when everyone is home, and yet there was no ballbusting. Know what I got? An intervention. My friends, the biggest group of a$$hole Giants fans that this planet has ever seen, sat me down 3 days after Mark Sanchez gave Brandon Moore a rimjob and told me to stop doing this to myself. Just root for the Giants for a while dude, they said, then whenever they get it together, you can go back, but you can't keep watching sports like this. That's how bad the past two seasons have been, even Giants fans don't want to make fun of us anymore.

Agreed. Sanchez is a disaster. I guess the Jets are responsible for empowering that disaster but I'm not sure the entire team really is.

it's the front office. PR dept, owner, GM, whatever Bradway's title is, stuff like that. Plus Sanchez and the loud mouth HC...whom I do personally like. But.

The only reason I believe this is because I had a situation in which 2 of my friends after that Thanksgiving game had nothing to say to me besides "Sorry bro. Must really suck"

It has nothing to do with being square. Getting your stomach stapled or putting on a wig or filming a footkkake video with your wife are exactly as relevant to coaching an NFL team as Namath-era ball boy experience is.

no team has ever lead the nfl in rushing and won a superbowl

our HC has guaranteed 2 SB wins, and tells us we will get there with "ground and pound" and ignores the passing attack to the point of humiliating his franchise QB

the jets are a joke, which is one step beyond disaster

Disaster isn't necessarily about wins and losses. By that measure, we're not a disaster.

Disaster is when you coach is talking about Super Bowls in August and coming up short.

Disaster is not learning your lesson from the above.

Disaster is saying you're better than the Giants in a year the Giants win the Super Bowl.

Disaster is saying "can't wait" and then not showing up.

Disaster is a head coach showing up in foot porn.

Disaster is losing more than a few games when you hold the other team to under 10 points.

Disaster is your #2 CB saying he's the #2 WR and being right.

Disaster is continuously telling the world how good you are getting blown out by 21 points or more repeatedly.

Disaster is locker room quotes killing Tebow.

Disaster is competing against yourself to sign bloated contracts.

Disaster is extending Sanchez.

Disaster is drafting Vernon Gholston.

Disaster is 21 points in 52 seconds.

Disaster is running face first into a 300 pound guy's ass and fumbling.

Disaster is never having a viable back-up in case Sanchez got injured... His terrible play notwithstanding.

Disaster is the comments to the media about how games were only a few plays away or how well the QB threw the ball after a blowout.

Disaster is bringing in Tim Tebow and saying it was strictly a football move, then not playing him.

Disaster is the mascot quitting.

Disaster is your owner saying he'd prefer a politician get elected over his team winning.

Disaster is having your back-up QB to hurt to play and not dressing another one.

Disaster is firing your bad offensive coordinator and bringing in a worse one.

Disaster is being the 2nd best pro football team in your stadium.

Disaster is your center being your MVP.

Disaster is trending downward rapidly.

Disaster is doing nothing in the off-season to address a plethora of needs.

Disaster is trying to sell PSL's as an investment.

Disaster is arrogance resultant from back to back AFC Championship losses.

Disaster is a head coach saying, "I don't know anything about offense".

Disaster is talking about ground and pound in 2012.

This team isn't the worst in the league, but hard not to say it's a "disaster".

Has anyone pointed out that this disaster hasn't fully fermented yet, and that next year--when giants portions of the cap are tied up in Holmes, Sanchez, and the putrid LB corps--and we have no QB and no free agents coming in to bail Tannenbaum out this time, will actually be the full-on disaster? Right now, we're the Titanic just as the water starts clearing the bulkheads.

You forgot phantom tackle to the #1 WR that ends his season and the game.

That was a good one.

I see this mentioned a lot. So it made me look around the league. The truth is, this isnt just a Jets problem. By the sheer make up of the schedule, most teams get the majority of their wins from beating sub .500 teams and will have 1 or 2 maybe 3 (those teams typically play in a competitive division), wins sprinkled in there where they beat a team with a winning record. For example; the Patriots went 13-3 last season, didnt beat a single team with a winning record till the got to the post season.

Doesnt excuse the Jets. Its pathetic in fact. But they beat the Colts this season, they have a winning record...thats one more win vs. a team with a winning record than the Pats.

First, it does matter that the Jets have not beaten a winning team. That goes to overall competitiveness. If you prey on the weak teams you are not going to compete for a championship.

Second, I don't think the Jets are that far away from being good. The big question is Sanchez. He was so bad this year that he almost single-handedly killed the team. The Texans and Seahawks games were both winnable and Sanchez could not hit open wr's and made terrible decisions in the redzone. Even the blowout loss to the 49ers was a ballgame before Sanchez killed the 2 minute drive with an int and then Santonio coughed up a TD.

I think the team needs a stud OG, S, and gamebreaking RB. Obviously QB is the huge issue but the 2012 Jets would have a winning record with Alex Smith at QB and would be competing for a playoff spot instead of a draft pick.
