Its the right decision for a couple reasons:

1) If you bench him for good, he will shrivel up and we will be eating his salary next year as a clipboard toter.

2) see how well he reacts to his benching, maybe it will open his eyes (but probably not)

Guarantee the rope will be shorter this week, if he sucks Rex won't wait till the 3rd quarter to yank him.

Its the right call.

Watch Sanchez go out and tear the Jaguars up.

i know this is unlikely... but it's possible that this benching is the turn around point for Mark Sanchez. Never before in his career did he have any accountability. And I know it's not as much accountability as we would like but it is possible (feasible) that this is a turning point for the young man.

i am not saying this is likely. I'm saying it's possible. There was always gonna be another chapter in the Mark Sanchez as QB of the Jets story, it wasn't gonna be Greg forever, and Mark contract dictates he's here for another 20 games or so. Might as well see what you get this weekend. If it's terrible, go to Greg again.

as I've said in numerous other threads it's very tough for a business like the Jets to pay Mark Sanchez 800k per paycheck, to hold a clip board. They are gonna get something out of this investment, one way or the other.

Thats why its a good move for Sanchez to get some confidence back.

Plus, the Jets are on the road, so Rex can get away with not starting Mac.

No thanks. The last thing we need is Sanchez having a "decent" game against a garbage team to prolong this ridiculous charade that he is an NFL starting quarterback. I'd rather spend this "give me" game building up the new prospect.

don't feel like copying and pasting tweets but couple Rex quotes:

"Mark has to protect the ball and play better"

"Sometimes when you take a step back you get a clearer view"

"It was 100% my decision"

"Woody didn't pressure me whatsoever. I have a great relationship with him"

"Opinions in the organization did vary. Wasn't unanimous"

"Gives us the best chance to win"

"can't wait to see him play Sunday"

Well, at least Rex will have time to go watch his son's football games now.

Woody likes Rex too much. The only way he gets rid of him and/or Tanny is if he starts getting hit in the wallet and possibly if he gets humiliated enough. And no - the Thanksgviing day massacre isn't enough humiliation for him.

looking back on Greg McElroy's perfomance last week... there's not a ton to like. there were 2 extremely questionable AZ penalties that helped the Jets big time. There was a late hit out of bounds. He threw for about 20 yards. He ran like 2 plays that weren't handoffs (literally like they called the same 2 pass plays over and over). I can understand the "anyone but Sanchez" argument but I can also see how an objective analysis would put Sanchez above McElroy. I can understand why Sparano would want Mark to run the offense instead of Greg. I wanted greg and that's the choice I would have made, but i can see the other side.

He made one good back shoulder to Kerley. Other than that he wasn't asked to make any hard throws. We have no idea what he is.The idea is for the franchise to recognize that sanchez isn't the guy.

ok so let's say they recognize that. They are still stuck with him for this year and next. Recognizing it doesn't really change anything. It's a better approach to try and fix him. They don't really have a choice.

Yes they do. They are going to suck with or without him for the next 2 years. You cut bait and start playing players who might actually contribute the next time the Jets are good.

Why? Unless you are counting the next 4 weeks as a year. They should have money in 2014. There is no reason for them to suck then. You don't quit trying to win until you are out of the playoffs. The Giants won the super bowl at 9-7. Yes, we are not the Giants. Yes, there is little reason to hope and none to believe, but most people were saying many of the same things about them last year.

Yes. They are going to suck in 2012 and 13.

the best part of Greg's game is that he takes care of the football. And that's important. But it's ground and pound all the way. I think they can beat these next 4 teams with either QB.

By definition Sanchez is not a G&P QB, look at his zillion turnovers, he belongs in a Ukrainian bakery mon.
