In those games, the Jets are 1-6. For those that think the Jets have this elite defense (Rex), in only one of these games (Colts), did the Jets hold an opponent under 23 points. As the Jets continue to beat up on the weaklings of the league, do not get false impression that this leadership has them close. This is essentially the same team that got blown out by the pats and then went into foxborough in the playoff and shut them down. Look at the Gmen on their SB runs. Mighty Moe(mentum)!!! The offense has been horrible. Three & outs, turnovers, etc., and the special teams haven't helped either. The defense has been put in terrible situations all year. They are good enough as a defense, but not good enough with this offense. Good defenses stop even the best offenses regardless of situation and how long they are on the field. Pair them with a competent offense, and they're top 5, easy. Word. And it took them awhile to step up this year. The injuries early on took their toll...Revis, Pouha. What I like about this defense heading into next year is that they have a legit DLine. Coples is showing signs and Wilkerson is legit. I would like to see more or Davis at Linebacker to see if he can really start next year. The secondary is set, Revis, Cro and Wilson with Bell and Landry (I am not sure of the contract statuses of all of them). So when you are looking at the defense you are looking at two things to make them better:1 1. Linebacker help, Pace and Thomas need to go. 2. Like Slats said, get an offense that keeps the defense off the field and lets them take some more chances. Really happy with the defense. And yes the opponents do stink. Sperm Edwards Posted December 10, 2012 Share Posted December 10, 2012 They have - and have had - trouble finishing out games, but a lot of that has to do with the offense not scoring enough and - in doing so - keep the other team in it. Yeah I'd prefer they shut someone down for a full 60 minutes but that's pretty hard to do for anyone week after week. We don't have elite personnel all over the place, and to expect elite results as though we did is just unrealistic. Our defense is still among the better ones in the league. If you think we're horrible then what does that say about the 25 teams doing even worse? It's not an elite unit. But if our offense was mediocre and 20% of our TDs didn't come while our offense was on the sideline, the defense with 2012's personnel - particularly when our only all-time great defender isn't on IR - is good enough to win a championship with. The defense is easily the team's strongest unit. Special teams and the offense have been atrocious. And one can't totally evaluate the defense fairly as though they play in a vacuum. They'd look a lot better if our offense - particularly the passing offense - was scoring another TD or two per game and our special teams wasn't surrendering points and so often and yielding so much field position (in direct contrast to the way they used to be). Our QB sucks and our (healthy) receivers suck. The unhealthy ones are either mediocre or detracted from team's morale as much as they may have added in production. Our RBs are mediocre but look a lot worse than they are due to defenses daring us to pass with impunity by concentrating on stopping the run. Doesn't matter. This is just for this year anyway and we have so many FAs for 2013 with so little cap room only a great fool should expect great things next season. No, you're ridiculous, unrealistic expectations and poor vocabulary have you fooled. They are top 10 in yards, top 5 in scoring. The team is still giving it their all despite having to watch the worst QB in the league do everything he can to keep the opposition in the ball game or flat out give them a win. Best defender in the land out for the year. 2 best skill offensive players basically out for the entire year and a revolving door at WR because of injuries. The best offenses are the best because they beat good defenses regardless of the situation. Your expectations are way out of whack. The Jets have a playoff caliber defense. It's not perfect, they can be beat, but it's still one of the best in the league - again, without a legitimate pass rusher, or Darrelle Revis. For all those key laspes, they gave up 10 points. The best defense has always been, and will always continue to be am offense that can get key 1st downs. We have nothing resembling that... Even teams with elite defenses would rather have their offense on the field to close out a game. Our D is often responsible for winning a game 3 times over... It should be no surprise when they fail.
