Jets already looking at new general manager options but will try to keep Mike Tannenbaum in different role, report says

If he doesn't he will be looking atr a very empty stadium next season. The franchise has to have a single voice. All these people, like the Bradway "leak" or the Tebow mess, could've been avoided if there was one voice and one story. Instead he's setting himself up for more nonsense and leaks. Bringing back this ship of fools is a recipre for disaster.

I already know several people that have given up their tickets including myself this year . One of my friends the most die hard I know had enough after this year . He has gone all over watching the Jets on the road no more for him

If the Jets ever want to make a move towards anything resembling respectability in the next few years, it'll take an entirely new front office in order to accomplish that. I don't know who the new GM should be, but I would echo the opinions that I've read around here that they need to go find an executive in one of the stable, successful organizations in the league such as Pittsburgh to come in and take over the personnel department.

They already did this with Terry Bradway and it worked so well, why not do it again amirite? That Sanchez extension alone is all the argument you need against keeping the bean counter around unless its to sell hot dogs. Woody needs to stop being cheap and realize HE screwed up extending Trader Mike and cut his losses.

They do it all the time... Bradway, Schotty jr., that LBers coach, westhoff is probably the only example of it not being retarded.

Same as Bradway. Some mythological talent that's never actually been seen in the light of day.

In the Bradway era, meaning the WHOLE time he has worked for,the Jetsmin any capacity, we have failed to find a QB or RB through the draft. The best WR we developed was Santana Moss, and he'll retire a Redskin.

amazing how Moss has been good with every QB he's had.... Coles only could play with Penny

No lets get a real GM and let him decide what to do with Rex. No side deals, no keeping people around, none of this bull that hasn't worked before (Terry Bradway). Give the GM the power to clean up this filth by allowing him complete control.

If that was the case, I'd be fine.

But what will really happen is they will only hire a GM who wants to keep Rex.

It's a damn joke!

Spoke with Ira from Staten Island. He told us that player personnel's Scott Cohen is a candidate for interim GM in 2013, but that Tannenbaum will be reassigned to another area, possibly a cap specialist.

Tannenbaum wiill stick around as a lesson in how not to manage the cap, perhaps? Johnson will now assign him to the task he has already screwed up monumentally, Further the cap isn't that hard to manage anyway.

Better idea-Woody should hire him as his valet or butler.

Coles was a pro bowler with Washington with Patrick Ramsey starting 11 games and Tim Hasselbeck starting 5.

I think you need to look at the bright side. There are 3 whole NFL teams whose offense scored fewer points than ours this year.

First of all...

You fire the old guy, then hire the new. The NFL is one of the few professional climates where you can do this AND should.

Second of all, you hire a new guy to be in charge. Let him be in charge. Rex was strapped with Schotty and Tanny. Sporano strapped with Cavanaugh.

If you want the people you are investing in, give let them build their staff and their roster. Stop forcing people who have failed under one regime onto the supposed catalytic change for the next regime.

It is part of why this cycle keeps repeating itself.

Woody reminds me of Hess in the way he is loyal to a fault to his buddies and to the detriment to his team (see Kotite and Walton). This ownership/regime also reminds me of the GM by committee that Hess employed for many years. No one person in charge and making the decisions, everyone had their hands in the pot. Obviously this never worked, and is no way to run a team. What a complete buffoon this guy is, and everyone is calling him out for it. Unfortunately I just don't think this guy is going to get a clue even when no one wants to work for him in the stupid scenario he is trying to sell.

Tanny did such a good job with the contracts he handed out to holmes, Harris and the contract extension to Sanchez that Woody wants him to be around for negotiating contracts.

I think the problem with those contracts was really the talent evaluator hat he was wearing at the time in thinking those players were worth the extensions and those prices.

You have to admit one thing about Tanny, the Jets really never lost any players they wanted to keep due to cap restrictions, they always found a way to sign people.

A large part of that is because they have very few good players. Being serious actually.

I agree with this. What I hope happens is that the new GM is asked to strongly consider Rex Ryan to stay on as the head coach. I think he can still work out, but I agree strongly with what you wrote. They keep this cycle, handing broken parts over to the next guy. I just hope Rex turns out to be a part that isn't broken.

yeah, ok, but still, over his time with the team, it doesn't seem like having cap room has been nearly the issue it has been for a lot of other teams. I think he is good at maneuvering through the rules of the cap. I could understand moving him into that role.

Well when they decide what they are doing with Sanchez, let's see how you feel about the cap then lol.

I used to think the same thing about Tanny. When he traded for Tebow without having read his contract, I just lost all faith in him.

lol, yeah, but like i said, was the problem that it was a bad contract as far as writing contracts, or was it a bad contract because the guy evaluating the player came to the conclusion that Sanchez would be worth that money.

What I am saying is separate the two. There are a LOT of tricks to working through the nfl salary cap, Tanny seems to be able to get around them pretty well. He just needs someone above him figuring out exactly WHO should be getting contracts.
