faba
Beside the fumble the guy had a pretty good game. He has to learn to carry the ball in the proper hand also. I liked him at Tennessee and when we drafted him- he may not be the feature back but he belongs and can play in this league
Matt39
We get a back in the draft and have a backfield of whomever and Houston. Not bad. The Jets cannot win with Curtis Martin.
GimmeShelter
Other than the game changing fumble which we would be killing Curtis on but are strangely silent about in Cedric's case, he showed to be a much better option than this years version of #28. He ran with a full head of steam all game and was a nice option out of the backfield. I would much rather that we had gotten a 6-8 game sample of Cedric before heading into the draft though. Same for Cotchery.
nj meadowlands
Great job by Cedric. Sometimes he needs to learn when not to go for the third and fourth effort after hits, but he is some runner. The one thing I noticed about him is his ability to stop and start up again. Very good burst out of the gate, and he's never down on first contact.
Barton
Exciting running back. He's got a great burst from the handoff, and hits the hole going fullsteam. He's shifty too, and breaks tackles. I like him alot. He can be a good starter in this league, and a great 1-2 punch type.
Jet/BosoxFan
I hate the way he breaks tackles and fights for yards afer initial contact! with that attitude...we're never gonna get the 1st overall pick, even if Houston keeps *winning. *I coulda said "even if Houston stops mailing it in"
DireJet38
I love the kid...through his face mask it looks like he has bashed into so many tacklers that his nose is flattened. It's refreshing to see some fight and power out there...but at the same time makes the decision to stay with martin all that much more painful to swallow. Bugg
He can learn not to fumble-look at Tiki Barber. Like what I see. Would be nice to have a bigger sample than these few games. Everything else re#28 -has been said. I think it's possible that Houston could be a solid back if he was mixed in with a 3rd down/pass recieving RB-like martin could conceivably be if his ego and the coaching staff's stupidity got out of the way and acted rationally. Let's concede this-Martin is now a better receiver than arunner. Make Houston the bulk/feature guy, bring Martin back as a change o'pace 3rd down Tony Galbreath/Dave Meggett guy.If they are going to bring Martin back at a cut rate, that makes more sense. Martin would get killed had he fumbled because not putting the ball on the ground is supposedly one of the major reasons he is so "awesome". If he runs a 4.8 40 and goes down upon first contact, then he'd better never, ever fumble.

Agree 100% Two-back offense lets Martin (who is smooth, handles the ball well, and always falls forward) get his touches, but puts the bulk of the workload on younger, more resilient legs. I'd be fine with houston/Martin backfeild, and we wouldn't have to waste our energy on RB in the offseason when QB, O-line, DT, etc. need to be addressed so badly. FinNasty23
Cedric Houston is gunna be real good... I am a Tennessee fan... I love Houston. He was really underrated coming out because of his weak senior season, and Riggs starting to come into his own. I couldnt believe that he ended up being on the Jets... I was miserable... 4HCrew
It was nice to see his power and energy. It was also great to see his enthusiasm which is much needed in these dreary times. Now if he would have only been playing 8 weeks ago! This is valuable learning experience for all of the young players.
SoFlaJets
the one good thing that has come out of this disaster of a season is us being able to see the kids play
Stonehands
Reminds me of Marion Barber of the Cowboys. Nothing flashy, but very effective.
bitonti
make no mistake that fumble at 17-10 was a game changing play, and not in the Jets favor. The Jets get some points out of that drive the game is pretty much over. Instead the Fins come back and tie it up and win. yes he had a good game, but cmon there's nothing worse than an RB that loses the ball at a bad time. CH should be getting murdered for that mistake as well as praised for all the things he did well. I liked his running style/tempo as well. He was very tough to bring down. But that fumble was a killer mistake.

I stand by my statement. If you can tell me why a fumble at 17-10 was _NOT_ a game changing play, i'd be interested in talking about that. If you want to talk about DROB start another topic ill dress you down there. this is a thread about Cedric, who by the way I like quite a bit. I am alot happier about the RB position behind Curtis than the QB position behind Chad. In light of his gland problems and his school, the Jets could have gotten a steal. I'm saying we should praise him for what he did well and slam him for what he did wrong.[/
bitonti
let me put it another way - there is a chance that Cedric Houston could be a great player in the league. It's conceivable, based on how he played, his history, etc. There is no chance Brooks Bollinger will ever be a great player in the league. A big difference. bitonti
Neither is Pennyboy!!!!!!!!! Again, I am not disagreeing. there _was_ a chance with Chad. It was at least conceivable. I didn't say Chad was the answer all I said was that in no way shape or form was Bollinger the answer. When teams gameplan for the Jets they are thrilled that Brooks Bollinger is coming to town. The guy has 1 career win and 0 on the road. How can that be worth an A+ in the grades?

I personally don't think we have seen enough of Houston to believe he has a bright future in this league. He played hard yesterday but the fumble was a killer. Not to mention that his running style will get him hurt sooner rather than later. He needs to protect the ball, square up on tacklers and run a bit lower to continue to succeed. Should be fun to watch him these next two games...

bitonti
to get this thread back on topic let me say from what I saw the only thing that could limit Houston is injuries, or more specifically longevity over the long haul. He runs with a very bruising style that could mean he burns bright but only for a short time. These guys can only last a few years in the league at a hyper tempo before they blow something out. But this is nitpicking the kid absolutely looked great yesterday. i am a believer in Cedric Houston.
