So, it makes you vomit that we would take a strong-armed leader that led a school that has been terrible for their entire history to respectablility, but you would give up the farm for an average-armed quarterback with a weird throwing motion that has proven the same amount in the NFL as the guy with the cannon? PatsFanTX
It makes me want to vomit. Note to Jets fans: The Jets have one of the worst Offensive Lines in the NFL. If they don't start rebuilding that mess immediately, the Jets won't see .500 for the next 5 years. Unless you get Bush (highly unlikely), the Jets should grab D'Brick with their 1st pick and grab another offensive lineman with the 35th-37th overall pick. That should give the Jets two immediate starters on the OLine. Both Lienart and Cutler are risky picks. Rather than rolling the dice on two players that have yet to play a down in the NFL, go after Matt Schaub with a passion (and dollars). Matt Schaub will be a quality starting NFL QB. Barton
Intersting scenario afo. But Bush aside, do you agree with my assessment that the Jets need to focus on the OLine? I hope that happens, assmop. But I know Bush did say he would like to play with his former high school teammate - Alex Smith, 49ers QB. I know the 49ers did try trading down last year, but that was a weak draft in the top 10. Then again, the 49ers GM a couple of days ago hinted at the possibility of the 49ers trading down and passing on Bush. Maybe he was bluffing? Who knows... This Oline was damn good in 2004. IMO, we just need to find a replacement for Kendall at LG and a new RT (maybe Steve Morley?) JMO, but you dont build Olines with 1st rd picks. This draft is deep in tackles, and we can steal a good tackle in the 2nd rd. I'd love for the Jets to tap into USC - Reggie Bush rd 1. Winston Justice rd 2. A guard or center in rd 3. LT - Jones LG - Draft pick/FA C - Mawae/Draft pick/FA RG - Moore RT - Justice Olines get better over time the more they work toegether as a unit. They're really a team on a team. This current Oline has improved over time this season, picking up the new schemes and having the same players starting for consecutive weeks. I also think we should nab D'Brick with the #1 and, if possible, take Cutler in round three if avail, or make a play for Shaub. People around the league love this kid, they all think he will be a solid, starting qb, in the mold of Jake Delhomme. Atlanta knows the Jets want him and will ask for at least a #2. If so, I'd take it and run. I like Cutler, being a Michigan man, here. Drew Brees panned out pretty well, but Herm and Terry do not have much shelf life left. I doubt they go that route. MiamiJet
Any Jet fan that argues that point does not understand the game of football. Once our strength, now our weakness. It cost us our season. Terry tried to follow your boys by being cheap and thinking he could just plug in guys. It only works so often. I also watched the Bears play patchwork with their line for years, only to see grossman go down time and again. Now they finally have a decent line and he's healthy once again. To think that Indy, Baltimore, Pitts, and KC have big, massive lines, and we have a seive....
stormshadow19
Any Jet fan that argues that point does not understand the game of football. Only those who want flash and dash will argue it. I grew up with the Lions (though being a Jets fan). The Lions had Barry Sanders and one playoff win. He was the best running back most of us have seen during our life times, and one of the top five players we've seen. But, the Lions offensive line wasn't good, as their defensive line. They had Lomas Brown (Barry's bodyguard) and Kevin Glvoer on that offensive line. Granted, most of the line was taken out do to the Lions curse (Mike Utley is all you really need to know). And the defensive line only had Robert Porcher. And the Lions massive downfall during the Millen regime? Weak offensive line. It's best to build the line, and to make sure you find pieces that fit into what you're running.

Same old Jets. even Mawae "well past his prime" is still the best center in the league. He holds players accountable. He makes sure they know their assignments. He makes great blitz pickup calls. No he's not a spring chicken but he's essentially an OL coach on the field. Without him, they suck. With them, they are decent (note i said decent not amazing). Tex you are piling on to what is a horrible season by the Jets, and even Jets fans right now are so down that they feel that even if the Jets had 10 first round picks they would still suck next year... but mark my words if Chad is healthy we are talking about MNF game with the division at stake. How smart is it to move forward with a 35-year old center with declinning skills? As for a healthy PennyBoy? Please. The Jets would have been lucky to be 8-8 let alone playing for the AFCE title. And, do you understand how the salary cap works? Do you? If you think that the Jets are going to be able to cut 15 players, with those big contracts, you're an idiot. That's just not possible. Not with those cap hits. And? Yes, Reggie would make more playing in NYC (New Jersey) than playing in San Fran. I don't think I was debating that. My point was that the Jets can't afford him, with the bonus he'll want. Actually, now that I think about it, it's debatable that he'll make more playing in NYC than San Fran. How so? Well, Los Angeles isn't that far away from the Bay. Lebron James makes a mint playing in freakin Cleveland! If they think you're that hot, they'll come to you. And, considering that Reggie Bush isn't your little secret, I'm sure everyone will be going to him. Oh, and about the Titans. They didn't cut everyone. Most of the players were free agents. They just didn't resign them. The Jets don't have as many free agents with big contracts coming off. Think before you speak.
