NEFan
Alcohol sales banned for Jets-Patriots MNF HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Fears of rowdy fans during the holiday season have led officials to ban alcohol sales at next Monday night's game between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots at Giants Stadium. Jets spokesman Ron Colangelo said the ban was put in place to protect fans. "It's for the safety of our fans, so that they can have a comfortable environment at a time when the holiday season can get very festive," Colangelo told The Record of Bergen County for Tuesday's newspapers. The ban comes after a sometimes violent Nov. 27 Jets-Saints game in which police made nine arrests. In one altercation during the second half, two fans were stabbed outside a men's room. In another incident, a state trooper broke his leg while trying to eject a fan who reportedly threw a beer bottle. Earlier this year, New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority president George Zoffinger pledged to deal with the problem of drunk fans. At the beginning of the year, a jury found the stadium beer vendor, Aramark, and a New York Giants fan liable for $135 million in damages in a case involving a 7-year-old girl who was paralyzed when the fan hit her family's car after leaving a game. The fan had purchased six beers at halftime even though he'd already drunk so much he was slurring his words. Story on ESPN

Bob
Two thoughts: 1 - There will be plenty of time for people to get as wrecked as they want before a 9 p.m. game. 2 - This ban only happened because some dumbass state trooper broke his leg. PatsFanTX
Wow, not only is the Jets football team the laughingstock of the NFL, now their fans are as well. Can't even sell beer because they act like wild animals. Nice classy organization.

Actually Bob - The guy he was trying to arrest in the upper deck "RODE HIM DOWN THE STAIRS LIKE A SLED" and it was in that fall that he broke his leg. I think it also comes on the heels of the violence that happened LAST DECEMBER from a large number of NE fans who came to the game, set fires in the parking lots & smashed the Windshield of a State trooper's vehicle that was trying to stop them from setting fires prior to the game. That & the fact that most night games this season have lead to fan violence due to the extra time to drink PRIOR to the game. I know that as a fact because I was the victim in one of the altercations in Atlanta earlier this year! Merry F-N christmas! I mean if you can't control your intake, you shouldn't go to a game! That's just my opinion & I'm stickin' to it!

Green DNA
That comparison is like saying the Jets are a good football team toady because they won a fluke Super Bowl game almost 40 years ago. That historic Super Bowl was no fluke Tx. Going to the Super Bowl because of a phantom "Tuck Rule" call, now that's a fluke.

shawn306
Anyone who pays 6 or 7 bucks for a beer on a cold winter night really should have their head examined. The Jets are awful, the fans that do come to the game are already going to be in a foul mood. A mood that will become even darker when the are egged on by the Pats fans. Can you imagine what it will be like for Buffalo on New Year's Day ? That is going to be really bad.

Jack Straw
A couple of years ago, two of my buddies were stabbed by a 16 year-old Patriots fan at the Meadowlands. The kid was drinking like a fish - surveillance tapes caught Meadowland's employees serving the kid booze. Perhaps the Jets are just trying to protect themselves from a couple of lawsuits. My buddies only got them for a couple hundred grand, which is pocket change to Woody and Co. But imagaine if one of my friends died...now we're talking several million, which I'm sure Woody is trying to avoid. If fans act like children, they will be treated like children. I have no problem with what The Jets are doing this Monday. Drink a 30 pack before the game if you want. You can catch a good enough buzz to distract you from the ass-whoopin' the Jets will recieve. TrueBeliever
That historic Super Bowl was no fluke Tx. Going to the Super Bowl because of a phantom "Tuck Rule" call, now that's a fluke. Now, I'll be the first one to agree that the Jets' SB win was no fluke. The BALTIMORE (note, not Indianapolis) Colts thought they could just waltz into Miami and put down this cocky AFL team and Namath, Maynard and the boys showed them otherwise. But the "Tuck Rule" business is really getting old. IT WAS THE RULE. There was no cheating, no bad officiating. And if it is/was such a bad rule, why has the league never changed it? Every year they bring it before the competition committee, and every year they don't overturn it.

Interesting stat for you: Number of time tuck rule was called before Pats-Raiders game = 0 Number of times tuck rue has been called since the Pats-Raiders game = 0 If I was a Raiders fan I would be sick to my stomach over having a SB trip stolen by some obscure rule that NOBODY had ever heard of before. Anybody here that claims they had either heard of the rule or ever seen it called in a game is full of crap.
