FlGreen's 7 round mock draft with comments

I’m going to factor a Revis trade in this draft.  The trade will be a second this year, and a conditional 1st next year.  The Buc’s  second will be in shown in this mock.

1)  Jarvis Jones………Of all the pass rushers in this draft, IMO Jones has the least immediate bust factor.  Yes I know about his injury, but he has been cleared by everyone who has looked at him that he has no more chance of  a sudden traumatic injury then any other player.  The danger is that he may wind up retiring in his early 30’s.  I’ll take that risk over a player that may be a bust at 23

2a)  Zach Ertz  TE……….MM offense requires a pass catching TE.  With Keller gone there will be a TE early in the draft.  Ertz is a big (6’5” 250# )  tough kid who caught 69 balls for 900 yards.  Will replace Keller’s production as a rookie.

2b) Damontre Moore LB……..Moore’s combine performance will knock him out of the top 5 in the draft, to the 2nd round.  The lack of reps on the bench (12 at combine 19 at Pro Day) concerns me more then his lack of speed.  Indicates to me a poor work ethic.  Still I’ve seen this kid play, and he is good at football.  I’ll gamble on him here.  Doubt he’ll be a bust. Question is, will he ever hit his potential?   If the lights go on for him, Couples, Jones, and Moore, will have Brady soiling his pants

.

3) Eric Reid S……….Perfect replacement for Landry.  Good size speed combo. (4.53 6’1” 213#)  Brings the hammer.  Played a bit inconsistently last year, but has a knack for big plays in big games.  Think he will terrorize Keller twice a year.  I also like EJ Manual here, but think he will be gone

4) Brian Winters OG…….. Big Boy (6’4”  320)  Hurt his shoulder at the combine.  I don’t know how bad.  I had him in the 2-3 round but hope he falls to the 4th.  Very versatile player, has played LT most of his career, but IMO will look great as an inside player

5) Marcus Lattimore RB……… Here’s a scary pick.  IMO Lattimore might be the best RB in the country.  Problem is his knees are made of glass.  Jets have shown they are willing to take a gamble on injured players with a high upside (Landry, Colon, Goodson, and Garay)  The medical, and training   staff  had great success with Landry last season, think they could roll the dice here.  Having Powell, Goodson, and McKnight already on the roster, they can go slowly with him in the first half of the season.   If Lattimore can stay healthy, could be the steal of the draft .  It’s a 5th round pick.

6) Chris Harper WR……….Former QB, who is a wide body for a WR (6’1” 230)  Average speed 4.55.  Smooth athletic, good hands .  Think he fit’s the WCO  as a 3-4 WR

7) Sean Renfree QB……… Hard to tell where this guy is going to go.  Duke isn’t exactly an NFL factory.   If he is here I’ll take him in a heart beat.  Decent size, speed, and seems to have an NFL arm

Sign me up. Love the first two picks especially. Not too sure on the Moore pick--everything you read about him says that he's certifiable.

Yeah Moore's a risk for sure.  Your right, the kids problems are probably between his ears.  Still, there was a LB'er in last year's draft who was as crazy as a loon.  Fell out of the first round right out of the draft,  Wanted him badly in the late rounds.  Made the rookie All Star team.

Bet the Jets wish he was on the team right now

Moore scares me. I can bench more than him.  The only thing that slightly makes me feel better about him is Sapp worked out with him and thinks he'll be a solid 3-4 OLB.  IDK.  Scared of him.  I dont think the Jets can afford to gamble in the 2nd, especially if they are trading Revis for that pick.

Is Reid falling to the 3rd these days?  In general I'm not too high on going S in the 3rd round.  Not a position I put a ton of premium in.  We've seen a bunch of JAGs back there in some very good pass Ds.  Probably a pick I'd save for later in the draft and/or see what you can plug in with a FA (there's a ton) or the kids for last year that are still around, see what they can do.

I wouldnt be upset with this draft but to be nit picky, I'd probably change those picks.  Larry Warford in the 2nd intrigues me.  Wouldnt cry if it was WR here too.  Though I like Woods and Patten if they fall in the 3rd a lot.  Also, I like Jelani Jenkins and John Jenkins in the 3rd.

I dunno.  I'm terrible at these things.

I admit the Moore pick is a risk.  Before the combine  almost every draft I saw had him in the top 5.  Some at #2.  I admit the guy is a head case, but he’s a good football player.  Think he is worth the risk in the second.

I never had a 2nd round value on Reid, for the same reasons you mentioned.  Just kind of high for a SS.  Jets ate in bad need of a Safety,  I want to give Allen and bush a chance also, but they are both late round picks that I liked.  The odds are both of them aren’t going to hit.

I wouldn’t be at all upset if the Jets took Warford in the 2nd.  Just think there is more value in Winters in the 4th.  Guy can play every position on the OL except C.  He’s also a huge dude.

I would take this if:

- That first is not conditional and for 2013.

- The second is conditional and can become a 2014 first.

Anyway, I'm still on the Moore wagon so I reacted to the pick as a steal.

Not big on safety in the third either, probably looking at WR or OL there.

First two picks are fine. Maybe Jones can start saving up for some stem cells.

FYI Moore benched 19 at pro day 10 lbs heavier.

I could def get into these picks. Not bad.

Thanks, I wasn’t aware of that.  I wonder why he elected to go with the heavier lift?  You would think he would want to stay consistent with what every one else is lifting

i do like that kid from duke i think in a few years he will start for somebody i hope is us, a very good QB

Yeah, Renfree is a pretty solid late round QB prospect as late round QB prospects go.

This QB draft is underrated for its depth. Lots and lots of starts and high completion%s and stuff.

I agree.

I think the Jets should take a QB in this draft, but not until the mid to late rounds.  Unless there is some one they are in love with

actually the more i read about jarvis jones the more im scared. Im kinda afraid so much attention is going to the injury no one is realy focusing on his physical attributes and or mental attributes.

i guess just gotta wait and see his pro day

I don't think Jones is going to put up great numbers.  They'll be OK, but not great.

This guy is just a football player

In all honesty, here is what I think is going on

.

The only real useful bit of information we got from the Woody, Idzik owner’s meeting press conference  is that, the Media reports that indicated that there had been no communication between the Jets, and Revis agents was false.  That coupled with the fact that Revis has been ominously silent the last week or so, that they are trying to work out a contract with Tampa Bay

.

From what I have read, at least the rumors are, the Buc’s have offered this year’s 2nd, and next year’s 4th. Guaranteed.  With a conditional clause , the 4th could turn into a 1st, if Revis is signed to a long term deal.

As you have mentioned, the Jets want their 1st this year, and conditional picks next year.

If they get that, IMO, it’s a great deal for the Jets.  I think they can.  IMO, again it’s all up to Revis.  I think Tampa Bay is willing to give up the picks.  Again it’s about the money

I think of it as just silent, and it's entirely possible the Bucs and whoever is not being reported are being used to gauge extension prices.

yea his production on the field really shows but still. Id like to see him put up atleast above average numbers if taken at 9. Wanna see if his "injury" affects how athletic or strong he can be and also see if he has the physical tools to beat nfl o linemen since they say he doesnt really have many pass rushing moves

edit: also if he performs well on his pro day itll show me he can immediately come in an wreck this league because we dont know how long his shelf life is.

It was reported today that Tampa’s 1st round pick is in play.  If Tampa is willing to surrender the 13th pick in the 2013 draft, plus some compensation in 2014, I would think that means they are willing to pay him close to what he is asking.

Think this is going down Gato.

After all this drama, they get this close to the deal, and Idzik losses it.  It will not be a good start for him  if I am correct, and Woody has decided he just isn’t going to pay him.

If Tannenbaum were sill in charge I might suspect they were playing headline games,  Don't think that is Idzik's forte.

IMO, if Jones has a good to great Pro Day, he won’t be there at 9.  This injury was diagnosed 3 years ago.

With out checking, I think he has put up 25 sacks in the last 2 years.  He is an excellent pass rusher.

As you mentioned the question on him isn’t can he get after the QB, he can.  It’s all about his shelf life

It's also all about him being an every down linebacker and not just a passrushing specialist. He isn't very supportive in the run game. I don't want him even if he is there at 9.

I watched both Moore and Jones literally dominate the Gators.  Jones single handed, won that game for UGA.  One of the most dominate performances I've ever seen.  I wouldnt be upset with either pick.  I could dig it.  Moore just scares me.  Any player who plays in the trenches that I can bench more than, is a scary prospect.  I think he'll be a one trick pony, situational pass rusher in the NFL, which I guess you can justify in the 2nd round if you're taking Jones, IF he pans out. I'd just prefer, if I'm using a pick that I traded Revis for, to get a player who's going to play every down.  IMO Moore, will never be that player.  Short arms, cant play with a hand in the dirt, doesnt like to lock up, dont think he can cover.  He's going to be very limited in the NFL.  But if he can be really good to great at that one thing....well, I think every team would take that (assuming Jones is the player he was in college).

Thats why I was suggesting a WR or OL.  Someone in on every snap.  SS in the 3rd I just down right dont like.  Of all the picks in this mock, that would be the one I'd hate the most.  The rest I could live with...no doubt.

He is small and will get eaten alive by guards. It happened against Alabama. Watch the tape.

I watched the game. He wasnt nearly as bad as you're making it out to be. Plus, its Bama, who made your Heisman trophy candidate look like a Pop Warner player. Saban can do that. The whole UGA team was getting dominated off the line. He knows how to neutralize a player better than anyone, yet, Jones still managed 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. lol

Jones is very strong vs. the run. He's got great pursuit of the rusher. His tackles #'s and especially tackles for loss #'s verify this and if you watch him, he doesnt give up. So Bama and their big time G's handled him well...but he's had plenty of success vs. a lot of guys you're going to see on Sundays.

There are knocks on Jones. No prospect is perfect...but if you watched him, his run support isnt what you should be worried about.

One-year starter. Inconsistent using his hands to disengage from better blocks and to beat cut blocks from running backs in pass pro. Lacks an ideal frame to get much bigger and doesn’t have the growth potential to the bulk teams want at the position. Will need to prove he can stay with NFL ball carriers in space when dropping into the flat. Not particularly smooth in deep drops. Doesn’t have elite bend around the corner, and could use a spin or other counter move to keep tackles guessing. Missed the last five games of the 2009 with a neck injury, part of his senior year in high school with a broken thumb. There is some concern about his long-term durability due to his spinal stenosis condition, the same ailment that has caused some players to call it quits, including Marcus McNeill, Chris Samuels and Michael Irvin.

Jones is best in pursuit in run defense. He isn't particularly stout at the point of attack when runs come directly at him. Even though Jones could use more bulk, he is a very good tackler. He wraps up ball carriers and quarterbacks well. Jones also skillfully goes for strips when hitting quarterbacks. His closing speed is phenomenal as both a run-defender and a pass-rusher.

WalterFootball - these things are meaningless. ;-)

I dunno.  When you got guys like Mo Wilk and Coples who can set the edge...I feel like a OLB in pursuit is what you're looking for to compliment them in addition to his ability to rush the pass.

You dont accumulate the tackles/tackles for loss in a career in the SEC that Jones has if you cant play the run.

Hmmmm

.

Wonder why you didn’t show the full profile?  Now the rest of the story.  From the same source you used.  I couldn't copy and paste Draft Scouts analysis, who has him as the best player in this draft because of copyright

Analysis

Strengths

Versatile linebacker with a chance to play inside or outside. Possesses a very good first step to pressure tackles’ upfield shoulder.

Also has closing speed to finish the deal and short-area quickness to keep contain outside and crash down on inside runs. Strong tackler with excellent length and upper-body strength to wrap up ball carriers. Gets under the pads of tackles, keeps his feet churning, to maintain leverage whether holding the edge or bulling his man backwards. Brings heavy hands, can rip off to get around the edge or cut inside to stop quarterbacks from stepping up in the pocket. Works through double-teams if the quarterback hangs onto the ball in the pocket. Holds his ground against pulling guards and fullbacks. Capable of locking up tight ends off the edge in coverage, also sorts out multiple routes in his direction to make a play on the correct one. Gets his hands up to affect passing lanes.

Bottom Line

The Peach State native suffered a neck injury his true freshman year at USC, but returned home when cleared by Georgia doctors; the consensus All-American impressed scouts in 2011 with his ability to rush the passer and he didn’t let up in 2012, leading the nation in sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles. Jones also showed the versatility to play the run and get the job done in coverage. He enters the NFL with some questions with his struggles disengaging at the point of attack and limited length and growth potential, but the production speaks for itself and, as Bruce Irvin reminded us last April, pass rushers don’t last long on draft day. Whether or not he would be able to fit in a 4-3 defense like Irvin would depend on how he is used, but he would fit best as a pass rush OLB in a 3-4 like in college. While his talent makes him a first-round pick, the medicals will be key to truly evaluating where Jones will be drafted.

Alabama has the best OL in the country.  If the Jets could get 3 of their OL, they would be the best OL in the NFL.  Did you see what they did to the Irish in the National Championship game?

Here’s the highlights of the Alabama game.  Yes, they tried to isolate him, and run right at him.  He faced double teams all day, and still had a good deal of success against  the best OL in the country.  It was a great game, that I watched.  Saying Jones got “eaten alive” is a major stretch.

1:18 Jones beats a double team, gets sack, and causes fumble

2:15 Brings good pressure.  QB steps up for interior sack

3:15 From the 1 yard line, Bama runs right at, and double teams Jones.  He holds the POA turns the play inside for the stuff and fumble

6.07  Taken wide by OT, comes back with great hustle and gets sack

10.24  Another short yardage play on 3rd and 1.  Again Jones holds the POA and turns the play inside for a stuff

All in all, considering who the opponent was this is not a bad video for him.  Most of the damage was done up the middle.  Jones was a part of why this was such a good game

LMFAO - nice try Carl.

TL:DR, but I still don't want him and his neck pains. Let someone else take him and see him gone in three ineffective seasons.

I suppose we should wait and see for his pro day, but really, he should have just worked out at the combine.

lol - yeah, you didnt read it because it says you're wrong.

On a serious tip, if the neck/spine is your fear...I get it, I dont share the same reservations, but I get it. It certainly shouldnt be that he cant play the run because thats flat out a wrong assessment based on what we've seen with him in college. He's a complete player and one I'd love in Green and White...if they are lucky enough to have the choice.

I was there.  I had nightmares about him that evening.

He literally won that game for them.  Serious talk.  It was one of the most outstanding games I've ever seen a defender have.  I cant see the video at work but it probably doesnt do that game justice for him.  I swear, he disrupted almost every single offensive down we had.

The biggest issue facing Jones at the next level, though, and the reason why he is more suited to play 3-4 outside linebacker, is the lack of strength he shows when anchoring against the run. He doesn't have enough power and plays too upright to seal the edge or take away any space in the running game. In the Alabama game, Jones was targeted often by the Crimson Tide rushing attack and constantly got blown off the ball.

http://nflsfuture.com/2012/12/15/jarvis-jones-scouting-report/

Run Defense: Jarvis Jones won’t make a fortune in the NFL as a run defender. He’s not a liability against the run but can be engulfed by blockers, see Alabama. Jones could stand to add 10 pounds of bulk to help him deal with the strength of NFL OL. Jones is capable of making plays down the field with his high motor. He also possess great instincts to recognize the run and does a nice job of shedding blocks and getting in on plays. Again, Jones has a tendency to create running lanes with him getting up field so fast and so far.

There's more, but I've made my point.  I don't want him because of medical questions, his not showing for the combine, and because he can be a liability against the run.

You havent made your point if its about his ability to play the run.  lulz

First and foremost, he's an edge pass rusher.  He's not going to be asked to set the edge often.  He's not going to a 4-3 team where his hand will be in the dirt.  He's a natural OLB for the 3-4.  The sh*t you quoted says so....lol.... (see bold).

Again...how is he getting 70 tackles, 20+ for loss of yards, in the SEC, if he doesnt know how to play the run?  He's going to be a pursuit OLB in the NFL.  Find the QB and track down the ball carrier.  You know, the things he does better than anyone in the draft.
