Jetsfan80
Allow me to express my deepest sorrow for this terrible news. Coal in the stocking of Yankee fans across the globe at Christmas time? Tsk tsk.
Green Jets & Ham
I don't like to toot my own horn, but ... Beep Beep  If you recall, I was the first person who said the Yankees should sign Dotel ... and I said it the day after the Yankees were eliminated I said Dotel was progessing nicely from TJ Surgery, but for that reason we could steal him on the cheap ... and that's exactly what happened, Yankees signed Dotel for one year and 2 million dollars ... an absolute heist
Blackout
Allow me to express my deepest sorrow for this terrible news. Coal in the stocking of Yankee fans across the globe at Christmas time? Tsk tsk. while the Mets are out signing past-their-prime big name players, the Yankees are making smart under-the-radar moves Honestly I can't complain. Dotel is a great K artist and is only
Green Jets & Ham
I really love our bullpen this year ... Dotel was the final piece I desperately wanted to add Mariano Rivera Kyle Farnsworth Octavio Dotel Tanyon Strutze Mike Myers Ron Villone {long man/spot starter} Aaron Small {long man/spot starter} I think Scott Proctor will also be in the mix ... might win that last spot if the Yanks trade a starter {for a CF} and install Aaron Small as the 5th Starter Anyhow, outstanding Job rebuilding that pen ... this BP is light years ahead of anything we have had in years
Jet/BosoxFan
There is nobody happier about this than yours truly... This guy has a habit of giving away wins to the Red Sox on a silver platter!
Barton
This could be a steal. Power pitching wins in October: Farnsworth, Rivera, Dotel, Johnson and Wang. Thats some power! But will Dotel be ready to play opening day? I honestly think we should still go after Tavarez, but now he probably will not want to be fighting for a 7th inning job. Dotel is a great K artist and is only 31 The Yanks already have enough all-stars, (some past their prime) and really only needed to build the bullpen this off season. The reality is that the Yanks got nothing close to their 1st choices in that bullpen rebuilding effort. Still the guys they signed, while questionable in big spots are better than last seasons group. stormshadow19
Cept they don't need the guys they signed in big spots. They got Mo for that. Though, the Dotel signing can become something major... he may very well douse the entire infield with his gas can. Burn baby burn...
Mavrik
you assume that just because Dotel signs with the Yanks he's going to just somehow pitch like a miracle. This isn't the second coming of Goose Gossage. Save the accolades to after he proves hes improved from TJ surgery.
Smizzy
How long was it untill Jon Lieber was effective after his surgery? It was a couple seasons. I don't see Dotel doing anything but cashing a paycheck for the Yankees.
mbn007
I disagree with all the naysayers here. Dorel is already throwing in his native country, and shoul dbe redy by early June. I see him as the gas throwing compliment to Farnsworth for the 7th and 8th. And, the way TJ surgery is these days, most guys return with the same speed, or even a bit more. Except Chad, though. Maxman
I wouldn't count on seeing Dotel until August. Not sure how effective he will be at that point. If he took 2 years - 2 million he wanted the guarantee to get paid this year. In other words...this might be a 1 year 2 million dollar deal. The year is 2007. I'll toss my prediction out there, Max I think he'll be pitching out of the pen by May, June at the latest, and throwing bullets by July
Maxman
I'll toss my prediction out there, Max I think he'll be pitching out of the pen by June, at the latest, and throwing bullets by July Well that is a big call...and I hope it is true! If it does happen maybe Bill Madden will quote you in the Daily News, lol!!! I just think if Dotel's people believed this they would have showcased him in May or so. And gotten a much bigger deal. I like the move on the Yankees behalf. It just seems like waht they did with Leiber. We are paying you for a year that you won't even play in. Dotel didn't want two, he only wanted to sign for one and the Yankees obliged ... so clearly the Yankees MUST believe he will pitch effectively in 2006, and I agree because Dr. Andrews said Dotel is doing Great Dr. Ansrews actually said he'll be pitching in April, but the Yankees may choose to move slowly to prevent any setbacks ... that's why I say May or June

Yanks must feel he is ahead of schedule and will be available early on while Dotel will use 2006 as a audition for his next contract.

I understand that the tentative agreement (not a done deal yet - pending pohysicals, etc.) is for 2 million for 2006, with no clause waiving arbitration, with incentives that could make teh deal roughly 5 million. I don't have details of these incentives, but will try to get them. So, Dotel and his people are expecting to pitch, and pitch effectively in 2006. And to pitch often enough to trigger some of those incentives!!
