But that would mean we got a #1 and a #2 and a #3 for Revis.  Or if we traded SF's high #2 for a #1 next year then it would be two #1's and a #3 for Revis.     Gee, you mean the #13 pick has more va

Teh **** are you talking about?   We are talking about the value of compensation. We didn't make a player-for-player trade, we made a player-for-picks trade, and people are unhappy about the amount

They're nervous about not re-signing Justin Smith to superdollars after this year and want to get his replacement a year before he leaves rather than forcing the position in round 1 of next year's dra

The 31st and 34th is equal value. Call me greedy but if I'm the Jets I want slightly more than equal value. Like acquiring a 5th or swapping a late 4th for an early 6th.

I agree, they have the picks to spend, let em spend them. Notice that moving up to 9 would be fair value to exchange 31, 34 and 72. I'd much rather that trade; gives us back to back picks in the 3rd (72 and 73).

I noted that would be all for it if someone's willing to do it.  Then we'll have ended up with two #1s and a #3 for Revis.

And you never know how high that might be.  Could get really lucky and have it turn into a top 10 pick (to go along with our own naturally-earned top 5 pick, lol).  Worst case is it's only 5-8 slots higher than this year's pick but a year later, though in a supposedly better draft.

Sperm,..serious question since I read the board way more than I post and I know you know your stuff,..then why was everyone so vehemently against getting the Bucs next years first?..this is obviously a clear 2 or 3 year rebuild here why not take the chance the Bucs even with revis will underachieve this year and grab the pick next year with our new coach in place in a stronger draft?...it's the Bucs with a suspect HC and a suspect QB..it's not out of the question if you ask me that they still manage to win 6 games.

well if thats the plan then why not try to find a trade partner for the 13 and get a bad teams 1st and 2nd next year?

I would love to....not being sarcastic but I would imagine other rebuilding teams won't trade a next years 1...a team like the Bucs may be delusional enough to believe they're all in this year and wind up imploding.

I was just screwing around with a mock draft thing, and the Jets are legitimately going to have opportunities to trade down from both picks if they choose to. The Rams are hot for Tavon Austin and have two firsts, and the Niners want to come up to 13 for a young DE (Sheldon Richardson?).

In that magical scenario, the Jets would end up with 16, 22, 31, 34, 39.

that would actually be pretty sweet.

5 picks in the top of the draft.

we would be getting 1 of every 8 picks in the top 39 picks of the draft.

as opposed to the scenarios tannencock put us in when we would only have like 4 picks the entire draft

i dont have time to look at the value chart but could we nab a 2014 number 1 to trade down? WOW that the 31th pick of the draft not sure the Jets would want to trades down that far of the draft even if they get a 1st Rd pick or more picks. in the 2014 or 2013 NFL Drafts. Getting a feeling that the Jets are going to take the best players that falls to the 9th pick and the 13th pick in the 1st Rd's. Then I think in the 2nd rd's and the later Rd's look for the Jets to start trading down to add more picks.

Tampa's first next year's might be a lot lower than this year's first.  If they improve by a few games you're talking about maybe next year's #25ish pick instead of this year's #13 pick.

Next year's first is just worth less in trade.

We can still get a #1 next year by trading down and also keep a high pick this year (on paper, anyway).  The imaginary scenario I drew up that you quoted was:

#13 to SF for #31 and #34, then the #34 for next year's #1 from [some team in love with a player who dropped to #34]

Net = #31 this year and a #1 pick next year.  Quite a bit better than just a #1 pick next year.

Makes sense thanks,...I just never understood the "a first next year is really a second this year" charts but that's for people smarter than me to figure out lol...any scenario that involves trading down and not taking guys this draft that fit " rex's system" is good with me.

You guys obiviously know the value of picks judging by what I'm reading here and I just read something very interesting. The Chargers are looking to move into the the top 10 if the OT they want is available. They do have the 11th overall pick and a deal of say the 9th overall for the 11th and maybe their 3rd rd pick(76)? I think the stockpiling of picks should be Idziks prime focus in this draft. It looks like a good draft to build some depth.

Or Freeman still sucks, Revis takes a full year to become Revis again, the Saints and Falcons dominate the division and the Bucs wind up 5-11.

This theory that the Bucs are suddenly a super bowl contender is funny.  They were one game better than the Jets last year.  And the Jets were terrible.

And as many people think, next years draft is better than this years.  So the assumption the Bucs will suddenly be like the 6-7th best team in the NFL is just an assumption.  If they wind up having the same record as the jets,  the 13th this year probably doesn't look better than the 10th next year.  it's all risk and based on assumptions.  The Bucs aren't the 49ers. Not even close.

It's only worth a second this year if the Bucs are a good team. Everybody thinks next years draft is far better than this year, so how next years is worth worse than this years is the funny part.

It really would suck if the Bucs stink and wind up with like the 5th pick in the draft next year.

Their roster looks very different this year.  They aren't subtle improvements (even if Freeman is still the QB).

Also in that case I doubt Revis would hit the incentives required to turn TB's 4th turn into a 1st next year.  May not be as simple as being on the roster on day 3.

Jets needs to draft players that can come in and start right away trading down that far can't see the Jets getting good Valve. What I can see from the mock drafts I have Jets might able to get at the 16th pick WR, Corarrelle Petterson 22th pick OLB, Jarvis Jones,or RT, D.J Fluker or TE, Tyler Eifert 31th pick of Rd's 1 CB, Desmond Trufant. Rd's 2 34th pick FS, Eric Reid 39th pick G, Larry Warford or G, Kyle long. Don't see that happening Jets are going to take the best player at 9 and the 13 pick then trades down in the 2nd and 3rd and some later rd's to add more picks.

Went you trade a player like Revis and get a 13th pick of the draft you want to draft a player that going to start right away you want to draft a pro-bowler like Revis or better a HOF. I'm hear that OLB, Dion Jordan could falls to the 9th pick and CB, Dee Milliner as well. 13th pick CB, Rhodes OLB Jones or WR, Patterson or TE, Eifert these are players that will come in and start right away.
