The Players To Root For In This Years Draft

If you are a Jets fan and you are hoping that a DB, OT, TE or DT falls to your team at 26.

Root for The QB's, RB's, WR's, DE's and LB's to fly up the charts and get picked before 26.

These are positions that The Jets don't need.

So I am pulling for Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers, Ronnie Brown, Cedric Benson, Cadillac Williams, Dan Cody, David Pollack, Marcus Spears, Mark Clayton, Braylon Edwards, Mike Williams, DeMarcus Ware, Daryl Blackstock, Erasmus James and company to get drafted before 26.

The more, The merrier. Cause I want a shot at Justin Miller and Carlos Rogers at DB, I want a shot at Jammal Brown, Khalif Barnes or Alex Barron at OL. I want a shot at Heath Miller. I want a shot at the best DT on the board.

I'll be pulling for the position players that I am not interested in for my team.

I'd rank them this way, as to my preferences.

1) Jammal Brown

2) Barron

3) Carlos Rogers

4) Heath Miller

5) Justin Miller

6) Khalif Barnes

I'd weep if we got Brown or Barron.

Your list is perfect TS. Our biggest need is definitely OT now. If there's a top OT and top CB still there at #26, the Jets need to take the OT.

No doubt. If a big-time tackle drops to us--Brown or Barron--then we should jump off the roof if Terry passes on them. Barnes doesn't look like a bad third option, either, though I don't know too much about him besides what I read on DraftDaddy.

Good post TS.

I forgot to mention a few other names like Derrick Johnson.

It's the same thing, I did last year. I rooted for Roethlisberger, Manning and Rivers to be drafted before 12.

I wanted Vilma, Deangelo Hall, Dunta Robinson and Vince Wilfork to be there when we picked. Vilma was my first choice.

Of course, I had the dream of Winslow or Sean Taylor doing something stupid before the draft but I realistically knew that they would not be there for us at 12.

I do this every year. I target the positions I want addressed and then I root for the players that i don't need to get drafted before my team's pick.

If we can get 3 more Matt Roth's and two more Shawne Merriman's in here, we'd be in good shape.

bad news on the carlos rogers front for JETS fans

the bad pro day of Pac Man Jones means he's the new #3 QB

Rogers is #2 CB now - me and ham called it about 10 days ago

Really??? What did Adam Jones do slip on a banana peel and run a 4.8.

I guess Mel Kiper is going to have to find a new way to overhype Jones and get him drafted higher. Maybe something like a fake injury excuse to help Pac Man's agent.

I liked Rolle, Rogers and Miller better than Jones anyway.

You see, You get the drift completely. You and I have compiled 17 names that could all go in The top 26 and all of them are off The Jets radar in terms of NEEDS.

By doing this, It's like The Jets have the 9th pick out of a bunch of guys we are really targeting. Not to diss any of the players I am rooting for. They are all good players, We just don't need them.

Barron, Brown, Barnes, Miller, Heath Miller, Hawthorne etc etc etc etc

Those are our real targets.

The guy the Jets have to take if available at #26 is Mark Clayton. The guy is a playmaker and will replace Moss's speed. The WR will be set for the next 5 years with Coles, McCareins, Clayton, and Cotchery. Go best CB in Round 2 and take Kicker Nugent in Round 3. The guy has a booming leg and we will have our kicker for the next 10 years. Add a DT, OT and TE with the remaining picks. Either Cavka or Jones come to play this year or we sign a 1 Jun cut for a year to play RT.

I LOVE Mark Clayton, but he'd be a luxury pick at this point. IMO, both Coles and Wayne would run the same kind of patterns we'd be asking Clayton to run. If the Jets are adding another wideout, it's gotta be one of those 6'4" guys.

I think we cut Chrebet after 1 Jun if we get Clayton.

Ooh! That's spicy. mudcat, if Clayton, Heath Miller and Jammal Brown are on the board, how are you ranking them?

I'd still have to go Brown, Miller, Clayton, in that order. And, again, I LOVE Mark Clayton.

No Wr's in the first round please and I like Clayton alot.

But The Jets already have two 20 something year old starting WR's and there is alot of money committed to the both of them. I don't want to give first round money to a guy who may came in and be no better than a 4th WR. 3rd Wr at best.

If you are going to take a WR in this draft. He better either be a big target or a kick return specialist.

I'd go Clayton, Brown, then Miller. Actually I wouldn't waste a 1st round pick at all on a TE. We can always pick up a 1 Jun cut to play TE this year and sign a good free agent one next year. No more Becht's or Brady's with the #1. Miller is probably droppping out of Round 1 anyway. Clayton is top value at #26. OL isn't a strong draft position this year. Brown probably couldn't come in and start. If Cavka and Jones aren't ready after a year we are in trouble.

With Heim as our Off. Coord, I wouldnt dare spend a first round pick on a WR. Granted, Floyd Reese is a very intricate piece to the Titans success of late round WR's, Heimendinger definitely develops them. So if Terry keeps his eye open for a WR late, it would make more sense for the Jets to pick one up later as opposed to early. Doesnt make sense otherwise.
