Linux Gnome/telnet question

Any Linux admins out there?

 

My Ubuntu server's desktop has a terminal session running a shell-level process like mysql. (gives you a prompt

 

I want to telnet/ssh into the box remotely, then 'assume' that mysql session/process. Are there Unix built-in tools to do this? From college, I remember some setenv tricks to re-route entire X windows, but I'd like to simply connect to one shell session from another.
