Lol yeah...If he just started McElroy/Brunell/Clemens things would be OK. He doesn't get football.

Do you maybe think for one second, that if he went to Tanny, and even nudged him a little and said "Hey, we could use a little help at this thing called the qb position", he would have gotten some attention and help there?

Rex was too locked into his boy Mark, to do that.

You're being serious? Lol - the reason the Jets don't have a QB is because Ryan never told Tannenbaum that QB was a problem? Simply put, that is quite possibly the most delusional thing I've ever read on this board today.

You realize there's not even 32 guys worth starting at QB for a full season in the league, right? Guys who can play the position at the level required to win consistently do not grow on trees. They stuck with Mark because sticking with Brunell/Clemens/McElroy would actually be more retarded. Literally the only franchise level QB that has been available for anyone to have in the past 5+ years is Peyton Manning, who turned the Jets down.

So there is no such thing as the draft, or free agency.

Quick Scott, list the QBs available through the draft available to the Jets or FA that they passed on. Once again I'll spot you Peyton Manning. Should be a nice meaty list given your mindset about the QB position...After all, Ryan ignored the issue for 3 years at least!

No interest in playing stoner head games today ;)

It's a good thing you told me. I can fix that immediately. It's just like getting a QB - I'll just make the decision to do so and it'll happen.

Still waiting on that super long list of franchise guys and/or upgrades the Jets passed on due to undying loyalty to Mark Sanchez. Right now you're at the given Peyton Manning.

Terry Bradway reportedly LOVED Russell Wilson last draft.

Thnk that would have been a stretch pick, if the Jets FO and coaching staff did not feel secure at the position?

So 3+ years of ignoring the QB position, passing on all these upgrades out there, and the best you have is not drafting a 5'10" QB in the third round? That gift of hindsight you have...what a gift it is.

Lol and the best part is that CLEARLY Ryan is the one who shut down the Wilson idea. #MoreScottScience

Ridiculous.

When was he supposed to do this? Right after the Jets traded up to the #5 pick in the draft and gave him a $44M contract with $28M guaranteed? After the first or second year the Jets reached the AFC Championship game, with Mark at least playing decently in the playoffs? After an 8-8 season?

Fact is that the GM was married to Sanchez. Tannenbaum's the guy who traded up for and paid Sanchez. He needed that pick to work. And with all the money and draft day investment spent on Sanchez, they weren't going to give up on him in three years. The extension was dumb, but that's also on Tannenbaum and his poor job of cap management. Tannenbaum's idea at QB for year four was Tebow. That worked great.

There was nothing Rex could do at the position as long as Tannenbaum was on charge. Tanny was too busy trading picks to take a flier on even a late round QB. By the time you could effectively give up on Sanchez, Sanchez had already gotten Tannenbaum fired.

And the Jets coach made sure they remained wed to Sanchez also. He did nothing to cause a divorce.

You can't let him go scott free on this issue.

You've already gone over this with Gato. You want to blame Rex for Sanchez, but even with hindsight, you have nothing to offer that they could've done differently outside of selecting Wilson in the second round... ?

The Jets made a huge investment in Sanchez. They had to see that thru for the four years they did. No one dumps the #5 overall pick in less than four years.

No, I asked for a list. You've given me one name - a sub-6' QB drafted in the third round. Anyone else, Scottaaaay?

Lol Dopehurts? Tf does that even...actually...just the list will do. From the way you sound it's a pretty long one so stop teasing us.

Seattle seems to have found one in the 3rd round no?

I have plenty that I could offer, but what would the use be? To placate stupidity?

Yes, the jets made a huge investment in Sanchez, but they DIDN"T  have to make the second one. And, to insinuatre that Rex wasn't on board with that , and maybe even appealing for it, I think would be faulty reasoning.

Placate away. Let's hear it.

The extension was dumb, but it was done for the sole purpose of creating the cap space that Tannenbaum had squandered. I doubt Rex was even consulted.

And the bottom line on that extension is that it bought Sanchez one more year, this one, and he's in a legitimate battle for the starting job, anyway. Pissing Woody's money away got him fired, but it didn't really hurt the team all that much.

Rex will definitely get another head coaching gig. Definitely. If Sanchez didn't suck so bad, there wouldn't even be a discussion about his ability to coach.

Funny that a GM is talking about the coach picking the players, too. Must be a real prominent guy.

this.

You're saying that Rex was forced to play Sanchez because there was literally no other option available over the course of the last two years. You're saying that a professional football team couldn't possibly divine an alternative to the worst quarterback in the league two years running.

I'm saying that no one in the league gives up on the #5 overall pick in their third or fourth year, especially one signed under the old CBA. No one. And Rex wasn't the guy in charge of personnel. A more savvy GM may've decided to hold off on trading picks and tried to grab a QB or two in the last few drafts, but we didn't have such a guy.

Great. Why would anyone hire him as a head coach?

Quality coordinators are given head coaching jobs. Rex will get another opportunity if/when the Jets give up on him, because he deserves one. And if that team has any semblance of an offense already in place, he'll do very well.

Billick was an alleged offensive genius who's team won with defense, and Fassel can drink Braylon under the table.

Rex came in with a reputation as a good defensive coordinator. Four years later, we know that Rex is a good defensive coordinator. As far as Fassel's lifestyle, are you trying to compare his to Rex's? I'd rather my coach was drinking bourbon than trolling parking lots looking to make fetish porn with dudes he found in Craigslist.

Rex will definitely get another shot as a head coach. I'm sure he's learned on the job, both his limitations and where he needs to do more. He'll be a better head coach in the future.

Despite the fact that he's shown the opposite of personal development over the course of four years.

And unlike those guys, he hasn't been demonstrated to be a fraud.

You can't be serious.

No one can discredit his abilities as a defensive coach, not even his biggest detractors.

Kudos to him.

And if Mornhinweg can work some slight of hand with Sanchez and/or Geno, we'll be putting off the Rex speculation for another year - at least.

What other head coach is completely and totally reliant on his OC, on a one-year deal, to save his job?

You'd think that other than defense, the Jets succeeded in absolutely nothing on offense while Rex was here (despite having Mark Sanchez as the only QB on the roster for 4 years).

Strange that this is not the case. Very strange.

I'm not sure how this statement supports Rex's tenure at all.
