Signing Johnny Damon was by far the dumbest signing this franchise has done in awhile, worse then Kevin Brown. They needed RP and a CF, what do they go out and get JOHNNY DAMON! JOHNNY F*CKIN DAMON!! That's like St. Peter going down to hell and recruiting Lucifer to fight evil.

I will not stand for it. Not only is he satan spawn but he doesn't nearly have the speed/range he used to, nor have an arm. This was a terrible fit and the only reason George did it was to spite Boston. If Damon is coming from any other team and no way does he get the contract he does.

So until Johnny Damon is an "ex-yankee" my new team is:

What were the other options out there? Do you think Bubba was the answer? Tori Hunter isn't available yet.

The Yankees addressed all the needs you just stated.

RP: Farnsworth, Dotel, Myers

CF: Damon.

Don't get me wrong. I'm totally commited to this Damon thing either. I would rather have had them go out and someone to take a Pavano or Wright off their hands and replace them but that isn't going to happen.

As far as Damon is concerned. The Yankees get the true leadoff hitter they have searched for since the days of Chuck Knoblauch. If he scores 150 runs this year and plays as hard as he did in Boston he will win over the New York crowd real fast.

The funny part (and I realize a CF was needed) is that Jeter actually was a better leadoff hitter than Damon last year.

All the "true" leadoff stuff is just a phrase to make the signing more justifiable.

With the Yanks cash though the move was a no brainer.

Even if Damon is toast in another year the Yanks will just sign Andrew Jones or Tori Hunter.

I dont care what the stats say. Watching these 2 teams play each other, and watching the Yankees play almost everyday, its clear that Jeter is not a typical leadoff hitter.

Jeters opposite field hitting and his willingness to bunt a guy over makes him the perfect #2 hitter. Probably the best #2 hitter in the league.

The Yankees won with Jeter at #2. Damon is more of a nuisance and seems to keep fouling balls off time after time until he gets something to hit. Not to mention, Damon is probably a better RBI guy as a #1 then Jeter was. Jeter fouls off alot of pitches, but he also swings and grounds out on alot of 1st pitches. Not to mention his best seasons were as a #2.

Jetlag, I might feel the same as you had we signed redsox players like Schill, Vaginatek, Manram, Ortiz, Nixon or Pedro. But we didnt.

We signed Damon, who is a classy player who always hustles, never stares at home runs and never causes trouble in the lockerooms.

Yeah he is a saint. Except for the whole cheating on his wife with some skank...abadndoning his children...and writing a "ha-ha" book about it after the fact.

Im not passing judgement here because I looked the other way on that stuff too...but let's not cannonize Johnny Damon here! All those other people you mentioned are MUCH better guys than Johnny except Pedro and Manny who are lowlifes.

Curt Schilling is the biggest piece of sh*t of them all. He makes Barry Bonds look like Jeter.

I get that you dont like him for (I guess) being outspoken!?!?! But how can you say Barry Bonds is a better person? Barry Bonds is the biggest scumbag in baseball this side of Gary Sheffield*.

And you said Curt makes Barry look like Jeter!?!? Strange comparison. Does that mean you think Curt makes Barry look overrated?

Barry Bonds is alot of things but overrated is not one of them!

I didn;'t want him and I will say it is not a bad deal. His arm is the only negative. But it is better than what they had.

He does have good range and it's not like having a poor arm isn't something we're used to. Bernie's always had a bad arm but he was a Gold Glover a few years back. I figure Damon will be something close to that.

Go RANGERS. We are in a tough stretch of games here, and still have Philly 7 more times. It won't be easy. I figure they need some 90-95 points to get to the playoffs.

Anyway, about Damon, you infer an interesting point here. Damon might actually be like Bernie was before his range diminished over the past 3 seasons. Cover a lot of ground, and can't throw.

Hey, we won a lot of WS with that combo!!
