the same Carpenter who missed a chipshot last year that allowed the Jets to beat Miami? that Carpenter?

Yep same one.  He also did the same thing in the Cardinals game.

That's why he is now unemployed.  Hope he stays that way.

Edit:  Technically he's no longer unemployed I guess.  :)

Some of the people on this thread must love playing the lottery each week, too.  Because in the face of good solid statistics, you know better.  Carpenter has averaged over 80% makes while Folk averages under 80% makes.  There aren't too many guys on the planet who can make over 80% of their field goals year in and year out.  Maybe it isn't significant, I mean it is only 1 or 2 more makes a year and with the way we score, who cares?

Today the Jets released Kicker Billy Cundiff who was signed July 23rd to compete with Jets Kicker Nick Folk. Cundiff made all his field goal attempts in the preseason and made all his extra points. Despite this, the Jets decided to move on and signed Kicker Dan Carpenter.

Carpenter was recently released by the Miami Dolphins and then the Arizona Cardinals. He will be given the opportunity to compete for a spot on the roster this Pre Season. The former AFC 2009 Pro Bowler has made 127 of 155 career field goals (regular season). According to Randy Lange from NewYorkJets.com, Carpenter is 13 for 13 on tries under 47 yards versus the Jets and 8 for 8 in the MeadowLands versus the Jets.
