My dog had a really bad day yesterday, I wasn't sure if I was going to be taking him to the vets this morning. Yesterday he didn't want to get up at all, he was extremely shaky, I had to walk next to him supporting him, and didn't want to eat much. I got him to eat some wet food last night and just cuddled with him and made sure his breathing was fine. This morning he got up on his own, went looking for his food and ate it all and is walking around without me having to stabilize him. Dogs getting old sucks.

It's sunny now in Raleigh, the storm has finally passed.  But all roads entering Wilmington are still closed, and the Cape Fear River (Wilmington sits between that river and the Atlantic Ocean) is not expected to crest until tomorrow.  So I won't be returning home until Wednesday, the earliest.

A friend drove by the house we're renting the other day and reported no flooding and only minimal damage to part of the fence.  But that could still change.

Other friends weren't so lucky.  A buddy of mine has a big old hole in his roof, fallen trees knocked into the house, etc.  But no one got hurt, and that's all that matters in the end. 

Great to hear you’re all safe and not much damage to your place!

Sorry to hear about your friend’s house though!

So you know how if you wanted to buy a TV a decade or so ago you could go to Sears, Radioshack, Best Buy, Frys, Circuit City, Target, Wal Mart, and maybe a few other outlets? Now it's really just Best Buy, Target, and Wal Mart. Soon Best Buy will probably fold as well due to Amazon.

 

So the same thing is happening to forums for special interests like the Wheel of Time. Eventually you won't have any forums for Wheel of Time but you WILL have larger communities on the few mega platforms people frequent. So places like reddit or Tumblr. They aren't forums in the way we know them but imo their communities will be bigger than DM ever was. The desire for people to talk to each other about stuff they like is not going to go away. But the places and methods by which they do it might.

You can still buy TVs at Sears. 

I don’t understand tumblr or reddit, so I’ll be sticking to my Facebook groups. Most of them are great communities once you kick out the trolls. Also, no time to sit around and play on the internet or games in general anymore. Guess I’m too old for this sh*t, lol.
