Have to think IR.  By any measuring stick Quinn is worst then Sanchez

probably true, but I read he was playing ok for the hawks in PS

if they IR him can they tell him to not come to the games ?  I just don't want to have the cameras go to him with every geno pick

I would have rather kept McElroy

Guess Idzik doesn't want to keep anyone who was a Jet.

Big Mo's next LOL

McElroy's hurt an got an injury settlement, genius.

Not really. It just adds to the circus. He's better than Harrell but Simms deserves a shot before Quinn.

Simms has never taken a snap with or against first stringers.  And probably not even in practice either.  Genius #2.

Simms at least knows the offense and is familiar with the players and terminology. Quinn is smart but he's not going to pick it up in a week. But, you're obviously doling out MENSA diplomas out here, so what do I know?

Id much rather see Brady Quinn than Mark Sanchez the guy is an arrogant fool on and off the field. Havent we all seen enough of him?

Sanchez is an arrogant fool? I've never gotten that impression at all. He's charitable and says all the right things. Sanchez is here for 2013. You may as well get used to it.

Jets sign QB Brady Quinn, release QB Harrell

Per @nyjets on Twitter

Im guessing they are going to IR Mark Snchez by the deadline on Wednesday this saves us money and ends Marks tenure as a Jet. Time to move on.

How does that save us money?

Bengals signing quarterback Greg McElroy to the practice squad?

By Josh Kirkendall @CincyJungle on Sep 1 2013, 4:18p 40

Former New York Jets quarterback Greg McElroy may be signing with the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad once his injury settlement is finished in New York, according to CBSSports.com.

We didn't see this one coming.

According to Jason La Canfora with CBSSports.com, quarterback Greg McElroy is currently working on an injury settlement with the Jets, who released the quarterback on Saturday. Once that's finished, McElroy will "likely sign" with Cincinnati's practice squad, La Canfora tweets. McElroy, who ESPN recently reached out to for a job on College Game Day, injured his knee during practice prior to the Jets preseason finale, but the injury wasn't viewed as serious.

It's believed that the Bengals were obsessing over players on waivers to find a young quarterback that was eligible for the practice squad, giving them another layer of depth at quarterback if starter Andy Dalton or backup Josh Johnson (who may be used in specific packages) were to suffer an injury.

McElroy played two games (starting one) with the Jets in '12, completing 19 of 31 passes for 214 yards passing with a touchdown, interception, and a lost fumble.

We initially didn't include him on our early posting regarding waived quarterbacks with practice squad eligibility after reading from Jim Corbett with the USA Today said that he wasn't eligible.

However, there is a connecting-of-the-dots that may make some sense. The Bengals only signed seven players, leaving the eighth for later. If there's a hangup regarding the injury settlement, then the Bengals could be waiting for that conclusion before McElroy is allowed to sign a deal with Cincinnati.

UPDATE: Ian Rapoport confirmed that McElroy will be flying to Cincinnati, but stopped short of saying that he'd sign with the team.

Yes ive seen him out and about numerous times in restaurants and in person at functions. Have you ever noticed his demeanor on the sidelines he doesn't strive to improve or get better he ignores others and eats hot dogs, glad hes never gonna take another snap in a Jets uni.

Funny thing about this whole saga is, it was clear that one of Idzik's main goals was to cut down the circus like atmosphere here..

Look what it's turned into.       Good grief

this weekend is always chaotic.  how is it circus like ?

they kept wonder boy simms and cut the mcelrat

the turned harrell into quinn, a clear upgrade

if they get rid of sanchez, it's almost a clean house

I think he means between extending the decision for starter to a third game, which by itself is not that bad since Geno was slightly hurt during preseason, but then when Geno bombed in that third exhibition game inserting Sanchez-who at that point was virtually certain to be the starter-and having him get hurt.  Then having lightly regarded "camp fodder" Simms play like the best QB in camp, then signing and cutting another QB and signing a a first round draft bust to replace him.

I'm not saying these were all bad decisions because they are trying to get some momentum going into the season, but it's just that as luck would have it they got the worst possible outcome in several decisions in a row.  So now it looks like a circus again.

Not specifically this week end just the way things have unfurled.

Garrard retiring after a few days,  the Smith furor with the national media about acting like a fool in predraft interviews, Milliner holding out over stupid wording, playing very poorly, now injured........ again. The Jets saying McKnight didn't have a concussion, and McKnight insisting he did, The fainting on the field drama during practice by McKnight.  The continuing Holmes saga.  Jets taking him off PUP, and indicating that he's good to go, while Holmes is saying, he's not totally sure when he'll be back. Goodsons arrest, and mysterious disappearance.     Sanchez's apparently having won the starting job, after Smith had a "brutal" practice, then a brutal game against the Giants, then Rex for some unknown reason sending Sanchez out to the field with 11 minutes left in the game. Now the signing of one of the few worst QBs then Sanchez in the league.  A guy who couldn't beat out Tebow, even though Elway stated Tebow sucked.   Going into the season next week, and still no starter announced.

it's just normal for the Jets I guess  :)

the jets beat writers will always tell you its a circus

it will be a team of grown up professionals after rex and sanchez and holmes are gone.  that will take another 5 months

they have gotten rid of trader mike and sparano and mcelrat, a good start.

goodson is actually the move I don't understand, idzik had a chance to send a msg and he blew it

this is going to be a rough year, buckle in my friend

Oh stop. You don't know the man and all you see is snippets on the sideline. He ate a hot dog like once. Get over it. You can say a lot about Mark Sanche but you cannot say he hasn't tried to get better and improve. That's just an out and out lie. Good lord.

And the ones who have taken snaps against the 1st stringers, literally scare the hell out of me

It just might be a different kind of circus. So far some of these moves by Idzik make the Jets look like a laughing stock.  No need for the Rex style of "wtf."

You sign a crappy backup for a few days, he takes a knee, then gets cut, then sign another guy who has sucked his entire career and couldn't even beat out Tebow to be the backup.  And everybody thinks Tebow shouldn't even be in any Football league.   You can't make these stories up.   It's one thing to bring in the guy months ago and go with the terribleness.  It's another to bring in the guy.

The Jets looked like a joke last year with the Tebow crap and having a backup QB who wasn't a backup QB.   Now you have the QB mess with the Jets.

Half these other teams don't even keep 3 QBs.  Look at the Packers.  They cut Vince Young who was their best backup.   At this point, keeping Smith and Simms and Sanchez on injury is all they really need.  Quinn isn't going to win them games or be any good.     So what's the point in even bringing him in at this point?     It just makes it a circus like move.

If Simms sucks, who cares.  If Smith sucks, you're still going to stick with the guy for at least half a season.  If Quinn sucks like everybody in the NFL already knows he does, what does that do?   It means he goes back to being a 3rd or 4th string QB?   I just don't get the point.  Like I said, teams like the Packers & Patriots carry 2 QBs. The Jets seem to need 10 QBs and they all suck anyway.  Makes no sense.
