So......are we still going 2-14?

Seriously, weren't there many people, both in the camp of the "experts" and posters here, who though we were going 2-14?  Yet now so many of us are being negative about the flaws that were exposed in an opening day victory?  Flaws that we ALL were very much aware of, no less?

I know we're frustrated after a pair of painful seasons, but this was supposed to be a tear-down project by John Idzik.  If we can compete like we did today while developing some young talent, that tells me we have a lot to be optimistic about.

And if we have the makings of a real franchise QB, we should be doing backflips at this point.

Na, we're not putting up "clowney" numbers this year, I can see us anywhere between 6 to 10 wins which means 8 to be safe. The defense is worldclass (not too worried about our safeties), but even with the potential from Geno, the targets are really thin on this team. Goldson having target practice on our WR's/TE's didnt help any either.

No we will be bad enough to miss the playoffs, and just good enough to get a draft pick in the teens just outside the area where you would like to pick.  If Geno is the real deal this won't be a big deal, but if he isn't then it really sucks.

So the team is completely devoid of talent on offense, the defense is overrated and the coaching is an abomination and you EXPECT 7=9 or 6-10?

No, to the contrary, I think all of those units have elite talent on them and anyone who says differently is a hater with an agenda, and seven wins is actually really good.

4- 6 wins with 6 being an extremely optimistic reach. Hope I am wrong but the lack of offensive talent and a complete HC will more than off set what could be a pretty good defense.

Will have to revisit 80's opening day threads around week 9 to see if the reality has sank in.

A gift win against a bad team has some over the top or just trolling for discussion. Both are entertaining.

WE were supposed to be the bad team.  Like, the worst team.  Like, worst team in the NFL.  Just read the thread title.  For many around the NFL, 2-14, 3-13 was the expectation.  Did we look like a 2-14 or 3-13 team yesterday?  Decidedly not.

This Thursday will be a huge measuring stick.  Beating the Pats, based on what we've seen thus far is unlikely.  But how we play against them should answer a lot of questions.  If we put up a performance similar to the Bills, than this team has a shot.  If we lose by 20, then I wouldn't expect much from this team.

I'm very concerned about the secondary, and Milliner probably more than I am Geno Smith.  The front 7 is obviously very strong, but I think the good QBs are going to shred us based on what I saw.  That, and with no running game, 2-14 may be unlikely, but 4-12 is certainly not.

Is it really so black and white though?  In 2009 and 2010 we had games against the Pats where we lost by scores of 31-17 and 45-3 yet still made the playoffs.

I mean, anything is possible.  But, I kind of think so.  This schedule is very though.  On top of that, unlike in the early years, there's nothing we do well on offense right now.  We don't have a top running game to rely on.  I hope it was our defense that kept the bucs in check, and not their ineptitude as it looked like early on, but I'm not so sure.

You're probably right.  I'm glad to get a W under our belts even if luck played a factor.  I'd have hated to start, say, 0-4 or 0-5.
