Smizzy
Edwards reiterates that he's staying with the Jets Associated Press Dec. 30, 2005 12:00 AM HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - For the umpteenth time, Herman Edwards did his best to declare his love for the New York Jets and his plans to be their coach. No one seems to be listening. Speculation started anew about his status when Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil said earlier this week Edwards should be coach of the year for the way he has handled his injury-riddled 3-12 team. Some saw it as Vermiel lobbying for Edwards to take over the Chiefs should the veteran coach resign at the end of the season. advertisement Last month, Edwards shot down the Chiefs speculation only after starting a small controversy at his weekly news conference when he said it was up to management whether he came back to the Jets. Because of the speculation, team owner Woody Johnson also declared he wants Edwards to return. But the lovefest did not slow down the speculation. "I addressed that six weeks ago," Edwards said Thursday. "I still stand on what I said. I'm coach of the Jets. The season will end, we'll try to get this thing going in the right direction." Edwards has two years remaining on his contract, worth about $2 million a year, placing him in the bottom third of NFL coaches. But the Chiefs would need to ask permission to speak to Edwards and give up draft picks if they wanted to lure him away. When asked what would happen if Vermeil retires, Edwards said, "If he does that I'll send him flowers. Congratulate him." Turning to the situation he faces in the off-season to rebuild a 3-12 team, Edwards said he is invigorated by the challenge. "We have a big hill to climb," Edwards said. "I'm the guy that went with Tony (Dungy) from Kansas City, where they go to the playoffs every year, to Tampa, where it's 'Come on in, you can go to the game.' There's no fans, there's no nothing . . . we can't win a game. OK, here's a challenge." His players believe Edwards will do whatever it takes to make the team better for next season. "I know that Coach Edwards is not going to allow us to go through this again, the type of coach he is, and the guys that we have in here are not going to stand for it, either," receiver Laveranues Coles said. "I know he'll get us going in the right direction." That is, if Edwards is still around.

You get statements like this from the players, and a HOF coach in Vermeil.........but your internet BUFFOONS like Moses will tell you despite what other coaches and the TEAMS players say....that Herm should go. Puuuuuhlease I'm not really anti-herm, but I'd trust compliments from an NFC coach more than AFC coaches. If I were a coach I'd praise the worst coaches in my conference...and demand the best ones be fired.

Bugg
Why is Hermie dissing the Bucs fans? That quote is incoherent. English teachers would need weeks to diagram the sentences, logic professors months to decipher the mess. Tampa, by the way, hasn't been blacked out for a while, nor has KC. More babble from an idiot. Corners to sweep Hills to climb Potatoes Buses With a 3-12 team these press conferences should last about 45 seconds. And this MORON manages to make news every day with his ramblings. Keep telling us, Hermaphrodites, how lucky we are to have him.

Bugg
JEJ- If you're going to worry about what NFL players think, you will be a loser. And in several examples, Edwards has done just that. Players liked that when John Lott told the traveling Master Motivator that weren't doing their best in the offseason program while Edwards was collecting $17,500 per speaking engagement, he sent Lott packing. Or when Bill Muir didn't like players were late and sleeping in meetings, Edwards made it clear to Muir he didn't really care and Muir was gone. Soem of these guys are self-starters(Martin, Pennington, Vilma), but most are overgrown children who need a kick in the a$$ rather than indulgence. Edwards will not ever give them that kick. LionelRichie
Bugg He gets one more year You know it, i know it, everyone knows it what has herm done to earn another year? in 5 seasons he has a losing record and this team is on the decline. this team needs to be rebuilt and another year of herm/TB just puts off the inevitable. only a new HC/GM will have the luxury of growing pains associated with rebuilding. I remember rumors when Muir left, were there any quotes to substantiate that Herm condoned players showing up late and sleeping during meetings. I do recall John Abe was quoted as saying that he'd stay out drinking all night and then go directly to practice and sleep during meetings. BaumerJet
what has herm done to earn another year? Thursday, December 29, 2005 BY DAVE HUTCHINSON Star-Ledger Staff Edwards, who has two years remaining on his contract, has said repeatedly that he plans to stay with the Jets, and owner Woody Johnson made it clear he wants Edwards to stay. But the person said Edwards could be lured away with a mind-boggling financial package that would set him up for life. Edwards is currently among the league's lowest-paid coaches at about $1.3 million per season. In 3 words: Cheap-Ass Owner!
Bugg
In 3 words: Cheap-a$$ Owner! What ever side you're on in this Herm mess, what has become crystal clear is having some Richie Rich-type buy this team-a man who has never had to work a day in his life and has no concept of the value of money-has been a disaster for this franchise. A buffoon posing as an NFL Head Coach. If Dinger dropped dead on the sideline during a game, would Hermie be able send a play in to the QB? 4HCrew
Herm got the money he deserved as a coach with no experience. What Woody should pay him is debatable but it is not good to have a lame duck coach. Players usually bash the coaches once they leave or they know the person is definitely on the way out (Callahan). From all of the chats we have had there have been many subtle hints that Herm is light on the players especially when it comes to hitting the gym. He leaves it up to them and does not crack the whip.
