Westhoff made a great point about the big screen play: Rex had the perfect defense called. where he had a corner in zone coverage and a LB in man coverage, but Harris is too slow to make a play and Milliner and Reed whiffed. I'm not excusing him for his defense's performance, but sometimes you can call the perfect defense and your players don't execute.

I'm not down on Rex b/c of his defensive play calling.

Do you guys realize that for 5 of the past 6 seasons all we do is sit at our computers at this time of year talking about who should be fired? It was Mangini and then we spent a couple of hot heavy anti-Schottenheimer  campaigns last year was a no-brainer about Sparano and Tannenbaum this year it's all about Rex and the ticking time bomb clock that will explode blasting his lap band all over the sports world.

yeah, thats ****in depressing

lord i hope not. i don't think idzik will be putting his career in the hands of another rex ryan led season

Good point. No one expected such a dismal season out of this roster. 6-8 now? Unbelievable. Look at all the wasted talent! This is clearly a playoff roster and Rex hasn't coached them up enough.

He does a little of everything, just not nearly enough as a rookie. Foot work isn't killer, good athlete, good arm, looks downfield, takes a hit, speaks the part usually...Honestly the season has sucked but he's still a really interesting prospect. He's certainly a more interesting long term QB prospect than any of the FAs or non-Bridgewaters.

oh he'll be here next year for training camp.....but there is no way in hell the jets can go into the season without bringing in real competition....or a guy who flat out gets the job over geno (jay cutler for instance)

your sarcasm is misplaced. this isn't the first season that the team has looked like sh*t under rex ryan

I would love either Maclin or Nicks if they're coming under what they were once supposed to reach. Either one works, really like both players when they're on the field.

It's so hard to tell about Nicks, because it's rare for someone who turns 26 in January to have lost a step so quickly. I think injuries have certainly taken a tole on his season, but it hasn't prevented Manning from targeting him 90+ times. Idzik cannot go into the draft without adding a quality receiver to the team, he just can't. If it's me, I approach him with a 5 years $35 million, with $17 mill guaranteed and the chance to stick it to Coughlin who he doesn't seem to like.  It's pretty comparable to the type of deals Stevie Johnson and Hartline signed and with Nicks' last two years, it seems doable.  The giants are not going to resign him with Randle taking his place and Cruz getting the big deal, so I would hope we at least inquire.

We need to go into the draft with a quality FA WR (Nicks, Maclin, Decker, Tate) and kick the tires on at least one of Denario Alexander, Arrelious Benn, Marrio Manningham etc. and come out of the draft with someone like Watkins, Lee, Evans, Cooks or Beckham. Ideally, we'd nab Watkins, Evans or Lee and still get cooks or beckham in a later round.

Nicks is a dog. Maclin contracts weird diseases. Grab Decker and Marqise Lee.

He misses practice and is tough to rely on, but yet Manning still targets him 90+ times. I can't tell if he's dogging it to not get hurt worse or if he's injured and gutting it out. Ideally, I'd prefer Maclin, but his knee issues are a concern and Manning has played Decker into a contract he doesn't deserve, so Nicks might be the best monetary value.

We're both big on Lee, but the more I watch those two, the the more I see how explosive Watkins is compared to everyone else. I think you should also check out Brandin Cooks, kid attacks the ball in mid-air, he reminds me so much of a faster Steve Smith. Obviously I wouldn't be upset with Lee, dude reminds me of a Tory Holt clone, and Holt was one of my all-time favorite non-jets.

Where was Winslow and Kerley the entire game?  These are go to guys and need to get them the ball to win.

Carolina most likely noticed that Winslow and Kerley are Geno's security blankets on 3rd down and did whatever they could to take them out of the game. It's why you saw Nelson getting the majority of open looks, because he seemed to be the only guy getting any separation. That and geno dismissed Holmes after his egregious first down drop that stalled our opening drive.

I know he threw the bad pick, but those first two drives could have been something, yet were completely stalled by Holmes' drop and Winter's getting decimated by Hardy. The next two games are going to be very important for Geno going into the off-season.

it wasn't just the bad pick. there were a slew of woefully inaccurate passes thrown. piss poor accuracy is not something that is easily fixed.

Golden Tate and Greg Olsen.

Yea, I've liked Tate for a while and while Olsen would be perfect, he's the only young weapon on that offense, he's not going anywhere most likely, especially with the TE tag not that high. I like Tate a lot, his best football is ahead of him, but it definitely depends on his price-tag.

We need to find Geno or whomever our QB of the future is, guys that can out-body the CBs in the league and make some difficult catches.  So rarely do I see Jets' receivers make catches in traffic and when I turn on other teams' games, it's like oh, you don't need to be wide open to make a catch, noice.

I'm actually surprised they went toe to toe with Carolina in thier house.  Expected much worse. Pretty well coached game overall.

Great coaching! the blocked punt was a great coaching move by Rivera, (he absolutely out-coached our st coach on that one, it wasnt Rex's fault though)

Completely agreed. Strongly consider Maclin over Nicks anyway, and not really interested in Decker. I like Benn as a FA JAG who'll come at a good price. Still would consider selling out for Watkins. He's the best non-Bridgewater you can add to an offense in this draft.

Tate is better than Maclin pre-knee.

Olsen's probably a pipedream(franchise tag I'd imagine)....Pitta too. But we need a tight end desperately.

I agree. There is no way they don't bring in a QB, maybe even 2.

And then there were a handful of very accurate ones. I'm on record as saying he's played poorly, I just think he's got enough to warrant trying to develop him. And a few of those inaccurate throws were on bootlegs or roll-outs, not everybody is Aaron Rodgers when throwing on the run. And the high screen is not what you want to see, but when you're throwing over or around 6'5 lineman, so long as it gets there I'm happy.  Sometimes it's the WR's jobs to make a difficult catch.

we need o-line. o-line, receiver and qb. those are the biggest needs on the team. and secondary

OL was pretty solid tonight.  Pushed around a pretty stout Carolina D.  5.6 ypc.  Thats pretty impressive.  They werent great in pass protection but a lot of those sacks were on Geno.  He holds the ball too long, flushes too far out the pocket when he feels pressure and has no feel for the blind side rush at all.  They've been playing a little better actually and was pretty down on them a few weeks ago.

I wouldnt go spending high picks on OL.  This team needs weaponz and secondary help badly.

if they can bring in FA OG to replace winters, and quality OT depth then I agree.  an OG at 14 can be a soild pick tho and helps the run game and pass game

Ehh, I'd still take Maclin pre-knee over Tate. He obviously earned much more immediate playing time, but his production dwarfs Tates, plus he's a tad bigger and faster. Now, post-knee? It's anybody's guess.

Tate's bee on a run first team. Maclin's never been over 1,000 yards so dwarfing his production is a hell of a stretch. Tate attacks the football as good as anyone in football. Not saying Maclin is soft.. but we need some tougher players here on offense.
