Unhappy owner is a bad sign for Rex

New York media sure knows how to milk a story.

07:27 AM ET 12.16 | Here it comes, the future, and it may not be pretty for Rex Ryan and Gang Green. The end is inevitable now, the end to a most improbable playoff dream for a team that turned into nothing more than a cruel tease. And the magic number now for [Ryan] is 2. His Rexpiration date has drawn perilously closer. A source described Jets owner Woody Johnson this way to The Post after Panthers 30, Jets 20: "Not happy." Not good for Rex. Two more losses now in the last two games after three straight years out of the playoff -- Ravens over Lions on Monday night would cinch it -- will leave Ryan dangling at the edge of the cliff on Woody Mountain, at the mercy of John Idzik, the rookie general manager forced to inherit him. Johnson loved Ryan enough to give him a mulligan this season.

Wait until Woody sees all the empty seats this week.

Woody doesn't care..  all seats are sold and team is in great shape financially.

He bought the team for 625 mill and they're worth around 1.3 billion now.

Try again.

A smart businessman doesn't rest on his laurels and bask in what was sold yesterday, but instead focuses on what they'll need to be selling tomorrow.

This from an owner who just a week ago - just before the Miami debacle - said that he "liked" the direction the team was headed. Of course it was on a three game losing streak which only pitifully shows how much this idiot (turnip) knows about the direction this team is headed. "Hey turnip, what took you so long to finally get upset?" I have been pi$$ed off for two years now, much like the REST of your fan base.

yeah ok, you guys are right.

Hiring an incredibly charismatic guy like Bevell will ensure those season tickets sell out in light speed.  The buzz around this guy is incredible.

As Ricky Ricardo would say, Rex Ryan has been berry berry good for business.  If you replace him you better do it with someone like Gruden.

So staying status quo will energize the fan base and encourage them to re-new and buy tickets?

How will that marketing work? "Get ready or more of the same!!!"

Hiring Bevell isn't about selling his charisma, or lack thereof... it's about selling "hope".

I'm not personally advocating for any of these guys, especially not Gruden, but I am saying that your initial statement about the tickets being sold was short-sighted and stupid.

Exactly right.

Every new coach gets a honeymoon period.   Our fanbase has been conditioned to expect disappointment but every offseason we get a reason to believe.    Whether it's Browning Nagle, Bubby Brister, Bruce Coslet, or Herm Edwards it doesn' make a difference.   From February to August we have hope which is something that we just don't have right now.

Yeah, it's a perfect business model. It leverages the emotional brand connection Jets fans have with the Jets product, which is essentially a cycle of "hope" and "inevitable letdown" followed by "hope".

It would actually be horrible for the brand if they didn't deliver exactly this emotional experience.

It really makes perfect sense when you consider Woody being connected to the Johnson & Johnson brand BEAST.
