Winters back to tackle?

Recommended Posts

After watching Winters play guard like a tackle all season long

whatta' you say we move him back to his natural position ?

He would provide depth, and possibly work into the rotation,

I think there are times Brick gets tired and he played left

tackle in college - and was dominant.

Vlad is currently playing end in some formations and I think

he played tackle in college as well, and I know for sure

our right guard (COLON) played tackle in college.

Campbell another one of our guards played tackle in college,

defensive tackle.

Guard has a specific skill set that takes a few years to learn

unless your Dan Alexander.  I would hope the organization

has learned from this and starts signing and drafting guards

who have mastered the position in college before attempting

to play it on a pro level.   If the Jets had to they could play both

Winters and Colon at Tackle, and I think both players would be

very happy about that, having tackles play guard has become

a problem for this team, I'm not knocking Winters and Colon, I

like both players, at tackle.

he needs a year in the offseason strength program. He never benched at Indy because of a torn pec, and that's the kind of injury that you can't work out through. His functional strength is poor. That's his biggest problem. He's getting tossed around out there. He could be a good starter given a couple years to work on strength. The good news is that you can't teach footspeed and he has that.

What percentage of NFL guards played T in college?  I bet it's pretty high.  I'd bet plenty of them played LT.

For a guy built like Winters going from Tackle to Guard shouldn't be this big deal.  I agree with Bit, strength seems to be his issue.

Rookies need reps, stop over-thinking everything. All of our rookies need a couple of off-season programs, more reps, and more time to become pros... it's as simple as that... now isn't the time to start talking positional change. They are just inexperienced, sheesh.

Just wondering.

Why would you want to take a player, Winters, who absolutely sucked this year, one of the worst OG in the NFL, and replace a player, Hunter, who played well this year?

i think he just sucks. i'm tired of talking about jets players who suck, but maybe one day they could be ok rotational guys if they workout real hard. **** winters.

I agree in all my years watchin football you can really tell pretty quick who a player is.

Marvin washington man I remember his 1st game he was jusr destroying people ( prob was he destroyed himself in process)

But really good players stick out and quick. Jags can become decent but its rare.

This. The best offensive OL in college (and high school before that) are placed in the tackle positions. Those same best OL make it to the pros, and a lot of them move inside.

Yeah, people can tell so much from their couches.
