What is odd is that for Idzik this is win/win. Gets his owner to keep around a potential scapegoat if it goes to poop, gets another year of really nothing being his fault and then the possibility of telling Johnson "I told you so" at the end of next season. Or perhaps they even luck into a down year by the Pats and a 10-win season.

Completely agree, and I've said so before. Max mentioned it, too. It doesn't hurt Idzik even a little bit to retain Rex, especially at the urging of Woody. All it does is potentially lengthen his stay as GM.

Disagree about Rex and the offense, though. He said before last season that he wanted a higher powered offense, and that was part of his motivation to move on from Sparano. They tried to open it up with Sanchez and Schotty in 2011, too, but they weren't up to the task. The idea that Rex doesn't understand how the current NFL works is a ridiculous one. Sure, he wants to dominate on defense, but you don't put all that thought into defense without understanding offense.

Yeah, there's five years of evidence that Rex has a highly complex understanding of offensive football, including his swift termination (after only a singular disastrous year!) of an offensive coordinator that he hired himself. Guy really has his finger on the pulse.

Good news. This is simply Rex looking BCA- Best Coach Available. Not a glaring endorsement, but gives us the best chance I think. Speaks well to Idzik's patience imo.

I think Idzik's best move to date is bringing in a bunch of new scouts. In a capped sport, legacies are built in the draft.

Come to think of it, this could be Idzik's way of getting out of paying that remaining $3-$4 mil to Rex. He tells Rex he can come back on a one-year deal, Rex tells him to **** off, then Rex quits to take another job. Boom. No money owed.

Your fantasy ain't happening.

In Year 6, Wrecks will now finally totally get it when it comes to offense.

Right.

Totally plausible. He's also being granted That Magic Quarterback that cruel fate has heretofore denied him.

Would love to hear anyone explain what they saw from Geno Smith this year that leads them to believe he is the proverbial Magic Quarterback.

Take a long look at this numbers and tell me how he's not a bum in the making.

Keep seeing all thie great stuff about Geno in the media and here. And then the guy goes out there and pretty much craps the bed each week. Sure, they occasionally let him throw a pass when the ground and pound goes to hell, but 12 TDs against 21 INTS is awful. But he doesn't fumble as much; this is what constitutes improvement, that he's barely capable of not turning the ball over more than 1.75 times each game. Great.

He had a better year than Mark's rookie year and everyone was slurping his nuts and excited for the future. The only difference is that Mark did it with a much better team than Geno has done it with. Throw for more yards per attempt, less I tetceptions per throw, more total yards, touchdowns and a higher completion percentage.

People also see that he's a rookie coming from a shotgun system who had barely any of his receivers healthy throughout the season and taking reps in practice. He shouldn't be guaranteed anything, but provided he closes out the season well against Miami, I think it's not unreasonable to be excited for him to beat out whatever rookie or veteran we bring in.

That's what you do with rookie and young QBs, run the ball and put them in good situations. Geno has thrown the ball 30 more times than Russell Wilson and has even been benched a few times.

Geno has been asked to do a whole lot with very little, more than a lot of other young QBs.

Geno is as bad as Sanchez if not worse. He has the same flaws and makes the same missteps. If Rex hitches his wagon to Geno, he's goine. That's how bad Geno is.

You keep parotting that argument, even though all stats say otherwise. More yards per attempt, less interceptions per attempt, more total yards and touchdowns, higher completion percentage and a worse team.

Exactly. Nobody in the media wants to be tht turd in the punchbowl. You're not going to get treated well at Florham Park if you tell the truth. The QB is different but still terrible. MM is a major improvement over Schotty, but he doesn't have anything better to work with.

Thisa argument can be summarized as "Geno doesn't suck quite as bad as Pick 6".

Same stare down of receivers. Same happy feet in clean pockets. Same horrendous accuracy. Same mistake prone QB.
