Billy Volek

Stay away from Volek.

30 year old QB, who has never played a full season.

He is 6'2 and only 214 frickin pounds - too small.

The guy starts 8 games in 2004, and shows he cannot take the pounding in the NFL - His shoulder gets severely injured and needs surgery.

Had surgery on his throwing arm just after the 04' season in which he played. Surgery to repair a severely separated shoulder (yes, his throwing shoulder).

Say Nilly to Billy.

I love Billy Volek. He is now #1 on my wishlist.

B-Man, you don't follow college football or something? Matt Mauck quarterbacked LSU to a national championship just two years ago. Good to see him getting a shot to show what he can do in the pros. The dentistry can wait.

Volek is two months older than Chad and not taken half the beating he has 4/28/76 is his birthday

so I say he's a young 29 as compared to another QB we all know and lov-ED

Exactly right. Another difference between Volek and Chad is that Volek has a hell of an arm.

Just don't understand how some people can say "trade Abe for unproven, average-armed Phillip Rivers", but don't give up a second or third rounder for a proven QB with a strong arm that has already thrived in our offensive coordinator's system.

And you wonder how TX has so much amo...

I'm pretty sure Volek never had rotator cuff surgery-twice

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee quarterback Billy Volek's surgery to repair a severely separated throwing shoulder was successful Friday, a team spokesman said.

Volek was hit in the fourth quarter of the Titans' 24-19 victory over Detroit on Sunday, separating his right shoulder where the joint meets the clavicle. Coach Jeff Fisher said the injury affected Volek's throwing mechanics and rotator cuff.

He was to spend Friday night in the hospital, and his recovery is expected to take three to four months.

Volek started eight games this season in place of Steve McNair, who had surgery to graft bone to his sternum last week.

He threw for 2,486 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He became only the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least 400 yards in consecutive games.

The Titans have informed Matt Mauck that he will be the starter this week, if McNair can't go.

This development seems to indicate that Volek will get his wish and be traded this off-season.

Not so quick, Scott. It could be true, but the Titans already know what they have in Volek and McNair; not so with Mauck.

I think it's the wise choice. McNair is a goner. He's old, beaten down, and much more expensive, while Volek has proven that he can start. Play Mauck and see what you get out of him. Maybe he shows enough, to make them comfortable keeping him as a #2 or #3. McNair cannot be depended on, and having Matt Mauck as your next available option wouldn't sit too well with me. My guess is that Volek will be their #1 and Mauck is getting a look see. If he sucks, they'll re-evaluate him during the off-season and look for a #2 or #3 via the draft/free agency.

There are plenty of rumors here in Miami that McNair will be let go, and that the Dolphins will go after him. McNair, not in so many words, didn't sound too happy with Heimerdinger, so I doubt that if he were released, would end up here.

A smart GM looks at the field of potential QBs to hit the trade market in the offseason and has to look at 2 guys-Culpepper(c'mon-what's a lap dance to a young unmarried guy?) and Schaub. In Culpepper's case, you might be able to get an ALl Pro on the chep due to "other considerations". And Atlanta might want to deal Schaub since with Vick's contract they don't want to allocate that much cap room to a backup QB.

Rivers is too expensive and unproven.

But I'm no expert.

And ideally, which ever guy they can get, Abraham either isn't resigned or is part of a deal.

And no matter who plays QB the OL has to be improved.

Waiting in the hope Pennington gets healthy is the height of foolishness.

Culpepper was MADE by Randy Moss. He was terrible this season before he got injured. I normally don't put much weight on skills competitions, but I remember watching Culpepper, Brees, Manning, and Vick in an accuracy competition during Pro Bowl week. Culpepper finished dead last. Behind VICK.

Just shows how terrible a coach Norv Turner is that he couldn't get anything more out of Randy Moss, a guy that has made Jeff George, Daunte Culpepper, and a washed-up Randall Cunningham look like Dan Marino.
