With the 18th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the NY Jets Select?

So, if we do indeed move to a 4-3 concept on D, there is literally one LB on the roster who can play in it. Depending on how the DC rumors turn out, OLB will be high on the list of needs.

If your conspiracy theories are true the only true 4-3 OLB worth anything early is CJ Mosley, that position is basically a position now where you kind of convert fast small ILB from college, or maybe a guy like A Allen of he could beef up a little without losing to much speed.

Plus regardless if we switch to a 4-3 in name we rarely line up in base D, always have 5 CB's, or more on the field against any team with a decent offense, and Rex puts guys all over the field in only ways he understands, he is a true defensive innovator regardless of what anyone thinks of his HC skills, so I wouldn't go to crazy over trying to find a specialist that you might only need 20% of the time.

IF we have 50 mil to spend in FA the Jets can package some picks to move up and get what they want we certainly have enough picks to do it.

I'm not a huge fan of trading up, but if they were to make a modest move for a big time WR (say, packaging one of their thirds), I wouldn't be opposed. I'd like to see them hold onto almost all (if not all) of their picks, though. Jets need starters and depth virtually everywhere.

LOL, dude... he said stop. He's trying to save you from yourself.

Lol, your like a little chihuahua. You bark and scream at Rottweilers and Pit Bulls from behind a fence. Then hide behind your owner when the big dog gets out. All the while everyone sits and laughs at you because we all know your all bark and no bite.

I agree, and A WR is the only position I would agree with a trade up to get a guy they target, only because I think it's such a huge need.

I've nicely asked both of you to stop.

I'm through being nice.

I stopped... hours ago.

My apologies, I was stopped and he had to throw in one more.

Uh, yeah... I "threw in one more" by reminding you we were told to stop.

I'd rather sit tight where we are in round 1, tbh. I said it in the pre-season, when we hired him, but Marty Morninwheg's offense doesn't require that one guy to be a stud at WR. I still contend there is relevancy to that opinion, however, I do recognize that we need talent at WR in the worst way. Problem is, we need talent at every position in the worst way... so if we don't get a "stud" WR in the first round of the draft (who likely won't produce as a rookie anyway) I won't be heartbroken, as long as that 18th overall pick is used for a guy who CAN start immediately somewhere on the field.

The realistic starting jobs up for grabs are #1 WR, #2 WR, FS, SS, one of the 2 CB spots at least, one of the 2 OLB spots at least, both the inline TE and the "move" TE, and potentially both OG positions... and I could make an argument easily for QB as well.

Im not suggesting it is worth tanking a game for, the last two weeks are good for the young players and the overall franchise.

but at 11 we would be able to get one of the top WR's, at 18 I doubt it.

I don't like any of the FA WR's, so I expect we will still be weak at WR next year.

On a related note:  Mike Westhoff said on Mike and Mike today that when the Jets traded up and drafted Stephen Hill he was so disgusted he "walked right out of the building.  LOL

Poor Mike Westhoff wasn't allotted his usual haul of special teams-only players and threw a fit. Talk about having too many cooks in the kitchen.

I know there's a chance I'm going to get jumped on for bashing Saint Mike but I have to say it....the more I read stuff like this and the more I see him on SNY waxing poetic about his love for Santonio Holmes and how misunderstood Holmes is, the more I'm glad Westhof is gone.

Brandin Cooks is kinda good.

Love me some Brandin Cooks, hands down has the best ball skills of any WR in this draft, if he was 6'2" or taller with the same ball skills he would be a top 5 pick. Body control, attacking the ball, tracking the ball, and catching the ball, no matter your size this is the most important skill, and is very difficult to teach (see Stephen Hill)!

He's literally like if you put Jeremy Kerley out wide, (After the Holmes injury, but before his own), but had another Jeremy Kerley STILL playing the slot to distract coverage, and getting Tate would be like having another Kerley on the other side doing the same.

Three Kerleys.  Sign me up.

I'd prefer Maclin to Tate. And we would need a large possession WR who would be a great RedZone threat.

18? Boy, I tell ya, winning those last two games. Whoo. So awesome.

12 of the 32 teams make the playoffs. We were right behind several teams that  made the playoffs and we pick right behind them. On top of that, we had the same record as several other teams, even teams who beat us, and they STILL pick ahead of us. That's just ridiculous.

Lol! F'ng Jet fans. Either want the Super Bowl or the worst record in the league. Anything in between is a failure.

Knocking the fish out of the playoffs was sweet, and having Geno and Milliner perform well down the stretch only bodes well for next year. Mo Wilk was what? The 30th pick in the draft? Just have to draft smart wherever they are.

Uh Smith SUCKS. He ranks as one of the worst QB's in the league. Just for your information.

Is he flirting with me and than going to try to measure my dick?

I am really not into that stuff, I thought I was just having the sh!t trolled outa me, I guess I have not been around here long enough to know how it works.

Im not judging him though, well, yeah, maybe I am a little.

It makes you mad that I can be this lame, and STILL make you make a jackass out of yourself.

Hey guys I know this has already been addressed but I just want to give everyone a heads up. I have asked the moderators to start cleaning stuff up, even if it means banning people.  Normally we are more tolerant but we just don't have the time right now.

So please put each other on ignore and avoid each other.

In all honestly Max, I was just giving him a hard time - I didn't make any of it actually nasty of personal. I mean, I was saying a bunch of dorky crap, because he's been a big hateful troll baby for weeks about Rex, and he deserved it. Sort of like how we bust the chops of Pats or Dolphins fans after they lose. No harm, no foul. Either way, it's over... he's clearly WAY too sensitive about it, which makes even the lamest of teasing escalate beyond where it should.

My sincere apologies. I won't let it happen again.

Not with me it won't.

Oh I'm so gonna troll you today! Contract Extension for Rex! Drink! ;)

LOL careful, he takes goofing like this VERRAHHHH SURRYUSSS.

Holy crap, enough. No more last words or make believe mea culpas to get another shot in. No references to each other. No nothing.

Don't even respond to this post. Just stop.

Percy Harvin is mainly a slot guy, and he was the Vikings number 1 receiver and one of the best receivers in the league for a while.

There is a world of difference. Harvin gets separation and is equally effective playing outside or in the slot.  Cooks is not that kind of talent, which is why he is a mediocre prospect.  I don't mind him as a mid-round pick -- we need all the fresh bodies we can get at WR -- but taking Cooks early is beyond a reach.
