Smizzy
Jets | Edwards wants contract extension Sat, 31 Dec 2005 09:05:12 -0800 Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets head coach Herman Edwards would like to have a contract extension, despite having two year remaining on his current contract. Edwards fears the Jets' rebuilding job is more than a one-year undertaking and Edwards would like some security. Representatives for Edwards are expected to meet with Jets owner Woody Johnson after the season ends and Edwards may want out if Johnson refuses to give him an extension. Matt39
Don't the Jets have a policy of not extending contracts that have more than 1 year left remaining on them? Ala Keyshawn. This has to be a joke.
Alk
Sounds to me like Edwards is trying to get out of town. He would be an idiot of he actually believed that he deserved and extension. I think he knows he doesn't deserve one and fully expects them to turn him down therefore that opens the door for him to leave for an even stupider team. stormshadow19
How could I forget Wait... didn't Chad have one year left on his deal? Same as Ellis? All those guys from that draft had the same length on their deal. Chad had one year left, and the Jets got suckered.
Barton
F U HERM! I was thinkin about it this morning..... I guarantee that if Herm is not canned after this season is over, that he will be here for at least 3 seasons. It will probably happen like this.... We finish 3-13, Herm doesnt get canned. We have a decent offseason and struggle to go 7-9 in 2006, which is plenty good enough for Woody so he gives Hermy a contract extension! Unf##king believeable. If Woody gives him an extension! Bugg
We now know why Edwards get to the office at 5AM(or so he claims); Edwards is taking his breakfast in liquid alcohol form in the Hofstra parking lot before the door opens if he thinks this is going to work. But what the hell do I know-Richie RIch gave the Idiot an extension after a 6-10 season. Half as many wins, twice as many years, more money. Go figure. TaborJet
Woody, don't give Herm an extention. It doesn't take more than 2 years to rebuild a team these days. Let him walk and we'll get something in return!
Preston Howley III
If Woody does extend him, the Jets will draft Leinart. Like sands in the hourglass, these are the days of our lives.

This has to be a joke. Apparently this policy only pertains to star WR's on winning teams and does not pertain to clueless losing coaches.

PatsFanTX
Hermie wants an extension after a 3 win season, whats next Bollinger asking for a $64M contract? Why would Bollinger only ask for $64 mil? He made it through an entire season without an injury.
GoJETS
Well, I'm glad most people feel Herm should go. I like him and I think he is a great guy and pretty good coach except for 3 hours on Sunday! Honestly, I think Herm will do better the second time around. Herm took over (from Al Groh) a 9-7 team that missed the playoffs by one game... Remember that game when the Jets ran up and down the field (over 500 yards)on the mighty (eventual SB Champion) Ravens defense in Baltimore (but Vinnie threw a few costly interceptions... Last year they were one game away from the AFC Championship game. Now he wants an extension to rebuild. WTF? If this team needs rebuilding it's because he (and Bradway) ruined it. The Jets gave up on the season the day they announced Vinnie would start. I like Vinnie and it was great that he beat Tampa but if Vinnie had anything left Parcells would have had him in camp - somebody would have had him in camp as a veteran backup. Michael Irvin laughed at the Jets because he said that last year Vinnie was so tired that Parcells wouldn't let him practice! Letting Vinnie start was a knock to Bollinger. His first real playing time in 3 years and he faces the Ravens defense (healthy and good at the time) and is instructed to not turn the ball over in fact don't do anything (LOL - take a knee and we'll punt!). This is Bollingers 3rd year and if he wasn't ready to play then he shouldn't have been on the roster. First Herm blamed Ted Cottrel (a successful 3-4 coach who was forced to coach the Cover 2). Then last year it was Hackett. This year it's Chad' s injury. It will never be Herm's fault. The Bears lost their QB and didn't miss a beat. The Vikings improved after they lost their "super" QB. Bucs are still in the playoff hunt after losing their QB. Parcells had the Jets competitive with Ray Lucas when Vinnie went down in '99 - but Herm's Jets quit and he didn't even follow he own rule "You play to WIN the game!" I don't know who should be the next HC but I'm thinking Gary Kubiak in Denver might be a good choice. He's been Shanahan's right hand man for a longtime and Shanny does everything in Denver. Dom Capers would be a good choice for a Defensive Coordinator. He's a great coordinator but a lousy HC. He failed twice and it will probably be awhile before anyone considers him for a HC job so whoever gets him as a DC will have him for awhile. Maybe the same thing with Jim Haslett (as a DC) if he gets canned. Maybe Mariucci? I don't think he is that bad but was in bad siituations. He did have the 49ers in the playoffs and the Lions situation is bad. Jim Fassel is an excellent choice if he can get a good support staff. He coached the Giants to the SB and the team got bad when DC John Fox became HC in Carolina. Fassel is somewaht like an offensive Bill Belichick (no one is that good!) - a great coordinator for several teams but tried to do to much as a HC. He lost his first OC to the XFL and took over the role then he lost DC John Fox and promoted from within. Johnny Lynn wasn't ready for that role it unraveled for the Giants. My choice is Jim Fassell as HC and Dom Capers as his DC. I think that will be great staff and allow the Jets to make a run at New England and now Miami. I'd like to see the Jets get this Jay Cutler. I've never seen him play but he's big kid and everytime I read about him they say he is the best athlete on the field and that is pretty impressive for QB in the SEC.
