slats
Report: Jets, Rex Ryan Agree On Multi-Year Extension January 16, 2014 12:15 PM NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Sack that “lame duck” label! The New York Jets and head coach Rex Ryan have agreed on a multi-year contract extension, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Ryan was lauded for leading this year’s team to an 8-8 record despite many in the media predicting they’d be among the NFL’s worst clubs. Ryan has gone 42-38 since his hire in 2009. He was entering the sixth and final year of his original contract. Ryan’s Jets have missed the playoffs for three straight seasons after reaching consecutive AFC Championship games. Keep it here for more on this developing story…
CrazyCarl40
Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always gotten. I hope for the best, but expect the worst. It's the Jets fan way.

Gastineau Lives
King Rex! http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/8357/rex-ryan ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Jets have signed coach Rex Ryan to a multi-year contract extension. It's unclear how many years Ryan had tacked onto his deal, but previous reports late last month had Ryan getting an extension through the 2015 season. Whatever the case is, Ryan won't be entering the final year of his contract and won't have to operate under the burden of being a "lame duck" coach. He also can't "bet on himself" and become a free agent after the 2014 campaign. Ryan has never been the problem. He needs to find a quarterback, some receivers, and a competent offensive coaching staff. Marty Mornhinweg will stick around as Gang Green's offensive boss. SenorGato
It took a while but the man has me convinced. A middle finger in the a-yer to Bevell, Gruden, and their dad - T0mShane. I love how this franchise has grown a pair.

He's a big PART of the problem for sure. His stubborness in sticking with failing players, his offensive ineptitude, and his brash, cock-sure attitude are all problems and have been for a while. Not to mention that this is the same guy who didn't have anyone returning punts and is probably the worst challenging coach in history. 1

Scott Dierking
Not a lot has really changed since the pronouncement at season end that Rex would be coach. The Jets still have the same ability to fire him (albeit at a greater cost) if he does not perform this year.
CrazyCarl40
Wouldn't this qualify as doing something different? The previous two coaches each exited within 5 years. Sure. Doubling down on a barely above .500 coach is different. It's how dynasties of mediocrity are made.

All massively overblown...Sticking with failing players is a much bigger deal when you're holding someone back rather than just fans imagining greener pastures are always riiiight there waiting. Until someone actually proves it, this has not been the case at one single position. I have absolutely no regrets that I personally did not see McElroy or Simms blowing chunks at the NFL level. The odds are against then even being better than Sanchez or rookie Smith. The attitude is nonsense, nobody gives a sh*t unless they lose. 80% of the whining Jets fans do about coaches is how his attitude should be the opposite of what it is. Yawn. His offensives ineptitude led to the stealing of Mornhinweg. This is a good thing. Best OC the Jets have had in probably decades. Coming off of 3 years without a winning season, to reward that is not only unnecessary, but asinine. They could have easily let him play out his last year, or given him a one year extension. This is so typical moron Jet franchise it's not even funny.

You don't think that the fan base love for Rex is the only reason for this? I see literally no other reasons. He could have been extended one year, or brought back. This was idiotic and senseless.
