The Jets and Cromartie did try to find a solution on a pay cut from the $9m-plus he was offered. No dice. He'll be officially released soon.

Idzik is making me like him more and more. Tanny would have not only given in but would have added 3 million a year.

Had some good memories with Cro though, he really resurrected his career here. Hope he doesnt stay in the division. I wonder what Idzik was offering.

Cromartie came here under some odd circumstances. To Jets fans, he was the dude who got trucked by Shonn Greene and had a billion kids. It's pretty impressive that he wound up winning the fan base over with his play and his decorum in the locker room. When Revis would get hurt he took on his responsibilities quite well and excepting last year I can't think of that many times where I didn't think the guy was earning his pay.

This is all very true, but calling Tom Brady an a$$hole was the kicker for me.

I agree. He earned every dollar and even with last year, he had a nagging injury yet played every game. He didnt pull a John Abraham on us and supported Milliner when the fanbase quickly turned on him. Im not sure how serious that injury is but I must say that he was a very good Jet, good enough to make Revis expendable. Thats saying alot.

This is true. You just hope that his fall-off last year was injury related and not just rapid decline.

It appears that the Jets have released cornerback Antonio Cromartie:

Cromartie v Jags

Due a $5 million roster bonus on March 13, along with $9.5 million in salary cap savings, the release of Cromartie was not unexpected but there was hope he would be brought back on a lower salaried deal.

Cromartie joined the New York Jets via trade from the San Diego Chargers in 2010 and has been with them up until now. He had 51 pass defenses and 13 interceptions during his four seasons with the team.

Always known for his tremendous athletic abilities Cromartie was often used on the kickoff and punt returns. He had arguably his best season playing cornerback in 2012 after the loss of Darrelle Revis due to injury. Even though Cromartie made the Pro-Bowl this year, as an alternate, by his own admission he underachieved during the 2013 season.

Cromartie did battle a nagging hip and knee injury during the year which seemed to cause him to be a step slower. It was hoped that rest would lead Cromartie to have a bounce back 2014.  Now he’ll be hitting the open market but depending upon the offers he receives don’t count the Jets out from potentially resigning Cromartie back for the 2014 season.

Some Tweets from Cromartie thanking the Jets organization and fans:

Here is head coach Rex Ryan’s statement on Cromartie’s release:

“Cro is one of the finest athletes I’ve ever coached,” Head Coach Rex Ryan said. “He was willing to contribute wherever the team needed him to win games, be it defense, special teams or offense. He has a passion and enthusiasm for the game and I wish him and his family the best.”

IDZIK is doing the right things and NOT listening to REX, who would try to keep these washed up bums and cancers that have been so pervasive under this coach. Hell, he usually makes these guys the captains.

IDZIK is clearly the man now, and REX is just another pawn on Idziks big game board.

Cro was far from a bum. But I do like that Idzik is a no non-sense dude and seems to be looking out for the best interest of the team as a whole. I think if what Idzik offered wasnt good enough then he should let Cro walk like he did. But to call him a bum is far from the truth.

Damn. Never thought it would bother me to see him go, but it does. Gotta respect the way he said goodbye, very classy, not what you might think of him.

How did he end up getting cut before Sanchez or Holmes tho? WTF?

That surprised me as well. I thought Tone should have been gone the day after the Super Bowl. Sanchez I can understand, you need to make sure that you have a better replacement. But for Cro to be the first is a bit surprising.

Whats up with Austin Howards contract too?

If it was rapid decline, Bit gets credit for calling that early. If the Jets sign a $10M CB to replace him, he losses credit.

Yeah, I watch replays of the infamous GIANTS game where Manning throws a 3 yard hitch at the 10 yard line, to Cruz, and this guy phantom tackles him, and is supposed to be the Jets fastest guy, and Cruz dusts him, TD, JETS LOSE.

Adios, don't let the door hit you, and don't trip over Sanchez, Goodson, and Holmes.

Yet another non-Rex thread that you managed to hijack.

Hooray for joewillie78, what would we do without him?
