We had bottom 5 QB play, no receivers, and bad pass defense. Had Idzik used up all our cap dollars to try to fix our problems, we probably go 9-7 next season. I'd rather put the emphasis on the draft and go 6-10 or 7-9 this year if that means setting ourselves up for long-term success. That would perhaps give the anti-Rex crowd their wish and usher in a new Head Coach, but that's the price you pay. If Geno isn't the guy we're not a contender yet. That's the # 1 task for Idzik. Right now he's making moves so that, when we do find our QB, we'll be able to ramp up to be a perennial contender for many years. Idzik will be long gone by the time we find our QB. We probably need a QB insurance policy but one who recognizes that its a competition and that the the starting job is not handed to them(why vick hasn't signed.). Our Offensive core is...well.... offensive. Given Decker's signing, the O is less stinky but they still need more playmakers. James Jones is gone, Jacoby Ford is still out there, and we have a raft of draft picks to look for better core players. Our D looks solid with the exception of the secondary. We need a replacement for Cro. Is he already on the roster? Maybe but if that is the case the replacement is unproven (Walls/Lankster). We need a safety but maybe we already have a good safety on the roster, Antonio Allen.... Idzik will look for value and not mortgage our future for a 1 year run. The gameplan is to build to continual greatness not shoot for it all this year. When you sign guys to 5 year contracts you could tie up your future to a one year wonder, that would tie up valuable cap space and place a huge lodestone around the Jets neck for the future.
