DeSean Jackson (MERGED)

This still doesn't mean anything. We are at the height of bullsh*t season. This could all be a ploy to get someone to pony up more in a trade for DJax...

Why would DJax put up with that? He'd be basically putting up with the team that wants him out to get more from a team that wants him. He really has no motive to play along, unless he's being played, which may very well be the case.

knew this seemed too good to be true. he'll start week 1 in Philly and go for another 1000 yard season.

build through the draft and such. bleh.

Imagine if Foles gets knocked out the first game for good and Sanchez turns in a 30 TD, 10 int season for 4k yards? That would be the cherry...for Jets rivals.

I wouldn't even consider the third.

But with the addition of the fourth rounder, that would make it easier for me to do the 4th & 5th that's been rumored - although I still think that's a lot. As a talent he's worth significantly more than that, but his contract (and his dissatisfaction with it) and these gang affiliations start to draw unfavorable comparisons to Revis and Hernandez - fairly or not. If the rumor of the Jets offer is true, I really don't think anyone else in the league will be offering more. I'd wait the Eagles out.

Idzik traded a 4th for an unknown in Chris Ivory...a 3rd for Jackson would be a steal in comparison, IMO.

But, knowing his style...the wait and see approach is 100% what is going to happen.

Ah, I was just kidding. There is no link!

Here's the rest of the blurb I made up:

Early Tuesday morning, Jackson tweeted that he spoke with coach Chip Kelly: "Good to Talk to BIg Chip today !! Say or hear what ya want !!" It's reportedly the first time the two have spoken since the end of the season, and it appears the Eagles and/or Jackson may have had a change of heart regarding the situation in Philly. We doubt Jackson has agreed or will agree to a pay cut, but the Eagles, who are in win-now mode, may put up with their outspoken receiver for another season. Coach Kelly will speak with the media on Wednesday.

^Intricate ruse

Jackson absolutely could be being played in this instance. He also could be saying this stuff just in case they don't deal him. I am pretty sure he isn't going to want to answer a thousand questions about his relationship with his coach at training camp...

So if Jackson stays in Philly, does Idzik become an idiot again? Because all you Idzik supporters were telling us that if this was his plan, then he was a genius...

Who says he's a genius?

However if we'd spent $12M on Revis, $9M on Byrd, an extra $3-4M on Howard, and extra $2M on Schwartz, and $4-5M on Pettigrew...

We'd still have the same receiving corps as last year, obviously other than swapping Holmes for Decker, and wouldn't have the cap space to do this deal and much more beyond that.

We'll do this deal if the price is right. We won't if it isn't (or if Philly decides they want him back now).

Where I agree with this (as a generality) is that you don't overpay for guys who aren't worth it because then it gets in the way of trying to sign guys who are.

What would be pure genius - on Philly's part - is if they decided to keep him and then file tampering charges against the Jets because Woody Johnson commented publicly about wanting/trying to trade for Jackson.

5% lower income tax in PA than NY/NJ?

With his $10M salary for the next 3 years, that's not so insignificant.  He can afford to get robbed a bunch more times, lol.

You pay taxes at each state you play in, so it's more like 2.5%. So it's $250,000 per $10 mil, not chump change but not worth being in misery either.

Why the **** would Woody do something that stupid?

Right.  So over 3 years that's $750,000 in cash.  So he can afford to get robbed a bunch more times.

I think it's a bit overblown that he would be "in misery" making $10,000,000 per season and having some damn good seasons at receiver.

He's young enough that he'll want another big contract after this one.  Based on last season's play, he sure seems more likely to get that in Philadelphia than with the Jets.

So it's $750K cash PLUS how much more he'll make on his next deal because he's still putting up top numbers.

Eagles' DeSean Jackson blames media for his whole situation

POSTED: TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2014, 1:47 PM

DeSean Jackson has seen his name show up in media reports quite often as of late, and the receiver recently acknowledged these reports on his Instagram account.

His message reads as follows:

MOST OF THE REPORTS THAT COME OUT ARE HILARIOUS!! IF U LISTEN TO HALF OF THEM YOU’LL BE FOOLED!! THEMEDIA LOL

The reports he is referring to involve his departure from the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that selected him in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Along with the Instagram image, Jackson wrote the following message:

“I SIT BAC & LAUGH AT THE REPORTS THAT COME OUT !! AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS ENTERTAINMENT GOTTA REMEMBER THAT!! NOT TRUE FACTS #10mode Got Much Love For All Fans Regardless.”

According to the Inquirer's Jeff McLane, Jackson called some teammates today to inform them that he would remain an Eagle, despite earlier reporting that his days with the team are all but over.

Meanwhile, Les Bowen of the Daily News is reporting that Chip Kelly called Jackson and told him not to worry.

That may seem confusing, but take into account the fact that the Eagles are refusing to comment - or even refute - any of the reports.

Yesterday, philly.com's Jimmy Kempski reported that the Eagles decided to move on from Jackson over a month ago, and Vegas is actually taking odds on the receiver's future.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Report: DeSean Jackson telling teammates he isn’t leaving Philadelphia, told ‘not to worry’ by Chip Kelly

BY TIM KELLY - MAR 25TH, 2014 AT 12:41 PM

The DeSean Jackson story has apparently taken an interesting turn, as according to the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, Jackson has told his teammates that he ‘is staying in Philly’.

Michael Vick’s interview on ESPN’s Mike and Mike this morning seemed to suggest different, as Vick seemed to allude to Chip Kelly being fed up with Jackson. This morning we also learned, per Les Bowen of Philadelphia Daily News, that Kelly told Jackson ‘not to worry’.

A source close to Jackson said Kelly told his star wideout “don’t worry about anything and keep working hard and be ready for camp.”

While people like me, who aren’t keen on the idea of giving Jackson away for mid-round pick or releasing him, would like to believe that all the drama surrounding Jackson will go away now and he will be an Eagle in 2014, this is likely nothing more than a good business move by Kelly. Kelly can’t tell Jackson that he plans on trading him, or Jackson will go to Instagram and post about how ‘Big Chip told him he’s getting traded’.

The one thing Kelly and Roseman need to be sure to avoid is the locker room getting the perception that Jackson was publicly lied to, and that no one is safe. I get the sense that Roseman and Kelly have made the determination that Jackson doesn’t fit their team, and they need to move on from him because of how he handles himself. The locker room needs to understand that this is a unique situation, rather than it turning into the Joe Banner/Andy Reid regime, where they become a cheap organization that doesn’t take care of their own.

We're desean Jackson away from winning the super bowl? You're a troll.

Do you realize what DeSean Jackson could do for this team along with a strong draft. He's an explosive game changer that also adds to special teams as well as WR.

You should really spend more energy on concentrating on football and less time ridiculing others.

Then why doesn't lets make a deal trader Idzik call Phillys bluff and offer the 3rd for a top 5 NFL WR well worth the asking price.

Top 5 receiver, are we trying to trade for Calvin Johnson or AJ Green?  Desean, in his best year, was 9th in yards, T-14th in TDs and T-19th receptions, but yea, top 5 receiver.

He can turn a team that overachieved to hit 8-8 into a superbowl contender. He's going to throw the ball to himself and line up at safety as well.

He adds a dimension to the Jets offense that we never had here. Have faith in Rex Ryan when it comes to the defense.
