An attempt to explore the salary cap, the cash spending floor, and what we might expect in 2015 and 2016

I don't see why this is being viewed as bad news.  Why overspend now when we don't quite have stability at the QB position?  If next year's free agent market is better than this season's, that would be even better news.

Time to check on that.  brb.

First of all, why are you whispering? It's the internet.

But while we're whispering. Pssst, hey, take a peeksie:

John Idzik begins his sixth season with the Seahawks after joining the club on February 16, 2007. With Seattle, Idzik oversees player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations. In addition, he serves as the club’s primary liaison to the NFL Office and represents the club at League meetings.

Overpaying is a subjective term.

Yeah, I might've preferred a little more spending to this point, too, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that John Idzik understands the cap ceiling and floor ramifications a tad but better than people who just happened to read this article.

Can we change the thread title to

A failed attempt to explore the salary cap

You bet. I would've preferred a little more spending too. I would never suggest I knew one hundredth as much as Idzik does about running a football team. But the point still stands that he is going to have to spend the money. That's a mathematical fact that I'm sure he's well aware of and I think he also knows that he won't be the only one bidding on whatever free agents he wants when he deems it safe to spend. It's possible that at least a couple of those contracts are going to look very "Un-Idzik" as the current perception of him stands.
