Is Idzik still on vacation? #WakeUpJohnny JOHNSCHNEIDER Executive Vice President/General Manager John Schneider enters his third season as General Manager of the Seattle Seahawks having been named to the position January 19, 2010. In his role, he manages all aspects of the Seahawks roster and draft process while working collaboratively with Pete Carroll in all facets of the football operations department. Although he holds the designation as the NFL’s third-youngest general manager at age 41, Schneider begins his 20th season working in the professional ranks. Schneider’s philosophy is one of building through the draft while creating a competitive culture through a mix of youthful playmakers and veteran leadership. He is charged with piecing together a younger roster that will breed a sustained winning atmosphere for years to come. The signs of that philosophy have been evident during his first two years in a leading role. Schneider’s first season resulted in a roster that saw an NFL-leading 284 transactions from the time he took control in February 2010 through the club’s final game in January 2011. Even with the roster turnover, his first season resulted in an NFC West title and Wild Card playoff victory over the defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints. He has shown a willingness and creativity to acquire extra draft picks and young talent via trade and free agency. Presented with two of the top 14 picks in the 2010 NFL Draft, he was able to acquire what many considered the best tackle prospect in Russell Okung and a starting free safety with the selection of Pro Bowler Earl Thomas. As the draft went along, he engineered trades that provided competition at running back, including the acquisition of Leon Washington. After having no players selected to the Pro Bowl from 2009-10, Schneider’s roster saw five players make the 2012 game: Thomas, Brandon Browner, Kam Chancellor, Marshawn Lynch and Michael Robinson - all of whom were added via draft and free agency after Schneider took over. Before joining the Seahawks, Schneider enjoyed eight successful seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Originally joining the Packers March 1, 2002, as a personnel analyst to the general manager, he was promoted in May of 2008 to director of football operations. In his role, Schneider served as strategic counsel to General Manager Ted Thompson, addressing and evaluating the needs of the team in both free agency and in the draft while incorporating long-range planning processes that examined the Packers’ roster, as well as the rosters of all NFL teams. Before rejoining the Packers in 2002, he spent three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs (1997-99), one year with the Seahawks (2000) and a year with the Washington Redskins (2001) as vice president of player personnel. Schneider, a native of De Pere, Wis., first learned the tools of his trade with the Packers, beginning as an intern during the summer of 1992 under then-Executive Vice President/ General Manager Ron Wolf. After graduating from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., Schneider returned to Green Bay, serving as pro personnel assistant for four years (1993-96) and playing an integral role in the signing of several free agents who would help make up the team that won Super Bowl XXXI in New Orleans. Schneider moved on to the Kansas City Chiefs in 1997 as director of pro personnel. It was in Kansas City that Schneider first worked with Marty Schotten heimer, whom he would later join in Washington. With the Chiefs, Schneider oversaw the scouting of all players with pro playing experience, including NFL Europe and the CFL, as well as the NFL. He also conducted advance scouting of all Kansas City opponents and was responsible for free agent acquisition. In 2000, he subsequently signed on as director of player personnel for the Seahawks, hooking up with Thompson and Mike Holm - gren, with whom he had worked in Green Bay. Schneider joined Schotten heimer with the Redskins in 2001 as vice president of player personnel, overseeing all aspects of the player personnel department, including college scouting, the college draft, pro scouting, free agency and day-to-day player personnel evaluations and operations. His duties included assembling and managing Washington’s scouting staff, a process which involved the hiring of 15 personnel staff members and implementation of a new scouting system. In his role, Schneider advised Schottenheimer on all personnel matters. In 2012, John and his wife Traci launched “Ben’s Fund” in partnership with Families for Effective Autism Treatment (FEAT) of Washington. Named after their oldest son, “Ben’s Fund” provides grants to families in order to help cover costs associated with medical bills, therapies and numerous other aspects of supporting a child, or children, on the autism spectrum. In their inaugural event, a celebrity waiter dinner, $250,000 was raised for “Ben’s Fund.” Schneider earned a degree in history and also studied education at St. Thomas, playing football for one year before a shoulder injury cut short his career. Born May 25, 1971, Schneider attended De Pere’s Abbot Pennings High School and finished as one of the school’s all-time leading rushers. He and Traci have two sons, Ben, 10, and Jack, 8. SayNoToDMC
I just want to know what Idzik has done to fool you all. He amassed 12 draft picks by being smart in free agency last year, he brought in the top receiver on the market for a reasonable price, he hasn't overpaid for a vets like Demarcus Ware when we aren't winning this year. In essence he's doing the exact opposite of what Mike Tannenbaum did. I'm going to wait to see how he drafts and how the approach works before I roll up in fetal position and cry because the old way certainly didn't work, but carry on. Bleedin Green
I just want to know what Idzik has done to fool you all. He had this great plan of getting some guy on a message board to incessantly whine so much about absolutely everything that not only he does, but everyone else in the entire league does, to the point that it creates this inherent desire within everyone else to want to take the exact opposite position, regardless of whether they may have ever actually agreed. Sheer brilliance.

BroadwayJoe12
CSN Bay Area reports the Raiders are "very close" to a deal with free agent Maurice Jones-Drew. Per reporter Scott Bair, "all signs" are pointing toward the sides hammering out a deal. That was the expectation after MJD arrived in Oakland Thursday afternoon. If you ignore the fact that a 29-year-old running back is one of the last things a rebuilding team needs, MJD fills the Raiders' need for a competent bookend to fragile No. 1 Darren McFadden. Jones-Drew is on the downslope, but didn't embarrass himself in 2013. He did, however, average a career-worst 3.4 yards per carry. Related: Raiders Source: Scott Bair on Twitter Mar 27 - He hasn't signed yet, but I figured we'd give Stoic a head start on complaining about losing out on yet another free agent. Ask and you shall receive, he never disappoints. Wow. Jets and Raiders may both be jokes, but at least the Raiders are actively trying to improve their team. jack48
Raiders are gonna suck anyway, just because.... like the Bills. You know they're going to suck most years no matter what they did. Raiders are wasting money on hambones. You improve a team by improving the makeup of the organization. And that includes things like development and managing cap space years down the line. The Raiders are a circular firing squad. Or at least a circle jerk.
