Post draft thoughts..

I think worst case scenario for us, after the draft is that we got two starters. Those two being Pryor and Amaro. I can't see them not improving our team. Now if that is the worst case scenario for the draft, that means we improved in this offseason in the following areas:

Decker WR

CJ2K RB

(potentially) Vick QB

Amaro TE

Pryor FS

Patterson CB

Ford WR/KR

Giacomini T

Now if this is the worst case scenario, and we still have 10 other rookies that can work into the system and can potentially become starters also, notably I believe George will be solid, I don't know how the guy slid into the 5th round (size, I know, but even still, guy is a stud), Trevor Reilly will probably make the team and can help with rushing the passer. Dex and Dixon could also develop into solid #2 CBs. Dex, btw, if he didn't have that injury, would have been one of the top CBs in the draft. Granted, we probably could have gotten him in the 4th. Saunders will most likely make the team as well. Guys a speeddemon, and can replace kerley as PR, and could possibly replace him completely come 2015, which makes me sad a little. Shaq and enunwa, also have potential. I believe enunwa is stephen hill 2.0, just smaller and slower. Hopefully stephen hill gets his sh*t together this year.

All this, and around 25 million in cap space.

In Idzik I trust.

I agree with the most part.  Out of that list, I don't think Patterson is a real upgrade over Cromartie. Giacomini is not an upgrade over Howard, but they are about equal so no real loss.   As usual, it will all come down to Geno.   Vick is an upgrade over Geno's production last year, but if Geno doesn't improve we still don't have a QB.

Ford and Patterson are not upgrades and are guys that might barely play due to injury.  Counting on them to play 16 games is a reach. You could say the same thing about Vick.

Worse case scenario is Vick is Vick and misses most of the season,  Ford & Patterson can't play because they are injured,  Giacomi is just a replacement and not an upgrade,  Johnson is old and shows it,  and Decker shows he can't be a #1 WR and isn't very good without Manning.   All of these things are very possible.   That's the scary part.   The Jets have a lot of upside because of these additions, but they also added a lot of injury prone guys who all come with "Will they play a full season?"

The more I look at it the more I like the first three picks. McDougle was off our radar, but I have good feeling about it now.

There's gonna be some fierce competition at WR and CB in the preseason.

I agree. In addition, I don't think Ford is even gonna make the team. With multiple picks at WR and CB, I suspect the Jets are hoping they get their upgrades from there. I've read that Evans could be polished enough to start right away, but may not have much of a ceiling.

I think the only draft picks who won't make the team are Enkempali (sp) and Enunwa. Both corners have to beat out the likes of Johnny Patrick and Isiah Trufant, and Saunders and Evans have to beat out the immortal Clyde Gates and Greg Salas. Dozier will take schlauderaff's job on Day One, and even Reilly has to just not suck to take a roster spot.

I think Enkempali is a slam dunk to make the team, too.  He is too athletic to allow to pass through waivers.  He'll beat out McIntyre when push comes to shove.  Enunwa needs an injury to stick with the club.

A big area we will be improving in is punt returns.  Kerly has steady hands when he is back there, but is average to below average with yards per return.  Saunders should exceed league average from day one.

Kerley does not instill confidence. How many times has he bobbled it? And he doesn't have breakaway speed.

If Hill isn't lined up to play a significant role on offense, I think his roster spot is at risk with all the receivers on the team. He won't offer much on specials whereas Enunwa could be a great 4 teams guy while polishing his route running. I could see Dixon not making the team too unless they want to keep seven corners. Would guess he's got Milliner, Patterson, Wilson, Walls, McDougle, and Lankster ahead of him. Might come down to who's better on specials between Dixon and Lankster - but Lankster's been pretty good over the last few years.

I think Ford will make the team specifically for special teams, same with saunders, I think they'll both have a spot as returners. Aside from that, I don't think anyone's promised a spot minus George/pryor/amaro

I don't see why a 6th round pick like Dixon would be likely to make the active roster.  He seems like the kind of guy you stash on the practice squad.  Physically good, but from a small school with unrefined technique.  I know new GMs like to keep their guys, but Idzik brought a bunch of guys in that are in the same boat.  Failed early draft picks, and interesting developmental prospects.  I'd hope that they really let them compete and play the best ones.  Derp has Milliner, Patterson, Wilson, Walls, McDougle, and Lankster ahead of him.  There are a bunch of other interesting CB prospects on the roster. Ras-I Dowling, injury prone former 2nd round starter for the Pats, Patrick failed 3rd rounder that has started games for the Chargers and Saints, Jeremy Reeves, a 2013 prospect that missed the season with a torn pec - he is a fidget but ran in the 4.2s with a 43" vertical at Iowa State's pro day.  They were probably there checking out Jeremiah George.  They also have Lowell Rose a longer, slower 2013 UDFA who was with the 49ers for parts of he year.   I hope that neither WIlson or Walls is a slam dunk to make it.  Not many guys you can count on, but plenty that have a chance.

I like Enemkpali.  He looks like he will be a beast on specials.  He probably plays the same position as Reilly who went a bit later.  I know it is popular to say Reilly is older and that is why he dropped, but they are not keeping him over guys ahead of him unless he outplays them.  Enemkpali and Reilly will be competing with Fugger and Jermaine Cunningham for McIntyre and Barnes' spots.  They will also compete with the ILBs over special teams spots.  I liked Troy Davis last year who was playing specials until he got cheap shotted out for the season against the Ravens.  I'm not sure how they consider him as a defensive player though.  They also have George, Bellore and the UDFA with the superhero name, Steele Devito.

FWIW, Trufant is gone.  SIgned by Pettine. Pryor took his number.

I just don't see them carrying two 5'9" return specialists, and they wouldn't've drafted Saunders if they were married to Ford. Saunders will get a long look returning punts in the preseason, and if he can do it, the job will be his, IMHO. KOR is a plug & play position nowadays that usually just stands in the endzone and watches the ball go over his head. There are enough guys competeing for WR and CB jobs that someone will emerge as a KOR.

Yeah true about the standing in the endzones. But they brought in Ford for KR and he's a health risk. I mean we'll see but I think they both make the team

I can see Reilly getting cut.  He has no outstanding physical attribute other than effort.  You stash him on the practice squad and let him get stronger and see what you have.

Yeah he's definitely gotta get bigger. First time I saw a picture of him I didn't realize he was a football player lol

They're currently healthy so to consider them upgrades is probable. Decker showed that he was a reliable wideout back when Kyle Orton and Tebow were the qb's. That Peyton Manning statement is overly used, just like Decker's success with Tebow is overly used. Decker simply has been successful no matter the QB. That's not going to change because of the overly pessimistic approach of some jet fans. I'm not saying he'll be the best in the league, but to make it seem like be isn't an upgrade and artist the best wr in the division is just nonsense.

There isn't a whole lot out there on Dixon but what I've seen isn't good. Still, he played a lot of press so we at least had something to go on when we made the pick, and I really don't think Idzik drafted a single one of these guys with the intent of not rostering them. Reilly is a linebacker, Enemkpali is an end. The two outside linebacker spots are completely different the 85-90% of the time we're not playing 3-4. Reilly has to make it on specials because we have McIntyre behind Pace. There isn't really any depth on the other side. Barnes is mostly just a pass rusher as opposed to really being Coples's backup and those other dudes are nobodies. Devitto seems better than George to me but I've only seen a handful of games each.

Cromartie was a pile of dung last year. Patterson would have to be an improvement on that. Even if he missed games.
