Jets | Pennington expects to be 2006 starting QB

Tue, 3 Jan 2006 10:29:54 -0800

Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Jets QB Chad Pennington (shoulder) said he expects to be the team's opening day starting quarterback in 2006. "There are no questions people can ask about the success of our team when I've been healthy," said Pennington. "We've done some really good things and made history as an organization. I have history and proof of that and I expect to be the starter."

I expect Chad to be waiving a towel from the sidelines on Sunday's next season.

I'm done with him. I love the kid but he is fragile as hell. We cannot depend on him, nor can the front office or Herm and his staff. For this, Herm just might jump ship.

For some of us, this may or may not be a good thing...

Absolutely," Pennington said when asked if he'll be ready to start the opener. He added that whoever the Jets bring in to challenge him had better "pack a lunch and get ready because it's going to be a long day," and such a competition "gives me fuel."

If Chad restructures let him compete with whomever we bring in for the starting job. I would have no problem with that.

If you're going to build the perfect QB....

The Heart and Leadership of Chad Pennington would be 1 of the building pieces.

I'd maybe take his heart, but he can keep his leadership. I don't think I'd want my "perfect quaterback" to be laughing it up with opposing players 10 seconds after one of the most heartbreaking losses in franchise history.

What would you expect this guy to say..."no, I won't be the starting QB next season"...he made a politically correct statement.

Personally, I would be surprised if this guy becomes the franchise QB he was paid to be. Not one, but two rotator cuff surgeries even though they were not the same injury is impossible if you ask me.

And he will be starting 06.

And when he fails to start all 16 or make any decent passes....HE DESERVES TO BE STRUNG UP BY THE GOALPOSTS for being a fraud and a theif.

7 fumbles against KC?

Jets Are In, Crush Pack 42-17 (12-29-02)

There is something so romantic about the struggle. The Jets began the season 2-5 and fought to find themselves amidst public outcry and media uproar. After Sunday

If Chad gets his mechanics back to the way they used to be, and if Chad is fully healthy, both big ifs, then we have a good quarterback. I still want to draft a mid-round QB like Darrell Hackney, Brodie Croyle, or Reggie McNeal (although he might be better as a receiver).

If we get picks for Herm, I'd see if Jacksonville would trade us Garrard for one of our 2nd rounders.

What about his arm strenght? Without that the rest of the stuff you just named doens't do squat for us.

He might as well go home.

Those are some big "ifs", Mack....

Chad is done. Finished. Kaput.

I would give him a chance, but the man is fragile. This is not Rich Gannon attempting a return, this is a kid who had decent strength at best, and now has two rips in his shoulder.

F him. Good kid, great heart, but even if he somehow returns, I doubt he stays healthy enough. With our luck, he'd go down in the AFC Championship game, or slip in his bathtub right before the SuperBowl.

This is just like us. No matter how much success we have, it all comes crashing down, just like our hopes. The kid we thought could take us to the next level is now done, old news, just like that article from 2002.

COOL! Let's pay him $9M this year in salary & bonuses (in addition to the $3M cap hit for his SB) for the "privilege"

He's 12M on the cap whether or not he's on the team.... He'll be restructured, a SIMPLE restructure, and save the team 7.5M

Lindsey Lohan and Elle MacPherson have about a good a chance as Pennington does to be the Jets opening day QB. Figure both have stronger arms than Pennington.

Pennington has a huge heart. But it cannot make up for the fact that good DCs know even healthy his arm strength makes him suspect; no need to defend the deep pass because he cannot throw it.Also seems like if he's pressured he makes poor decisions, which is true of anyone. But especially in his case with DBS and LBs cheating up. And once the Raiders got to him in the playoffs in January 2003 he hasn't been nearly as effective. And really how healthy will his arm be off his 2nd procedure on his throwing shoulder?

It will be a rebuilding year. Draft a QB and/or sign a cheap vet. Pennington's contract dictates he'll be here. But so what? You cannot expect much.
