1. The idea that Rex would give Russell Wilson the chance to beat out Sanchez is LOL territory.

2. The Saints have Brees because they were smart.

Rex babied Sanchez and treated him like his son. He never changelled him with true competition, totally handed him the job and we never once rained the guy in. Not good when your starting QB pouts when he walks off the field with his head down and go sits on the bench by himself. Never once said me or I, was always we when assigning blame. I believe Rex would have played Sanchez over Brady if brady was an unknown. THe man is cluess when it comes to offensive talent. Watch hard knocks last week, I wanted to puke with the John Connor crap and seeing mcknight play like crap and woodhead doing everything right but you could tell Rex had no intention of keeping woodhead. Thankfully, we have Idzik, not Rex's butt boy Tanny making those deicsions. Sickening

The dolphins passed on Brees and took Duante Culpepper instead because of knee concerns. But so what, if Rex was the saints head coach, you think brees and the saints  would have been just as successful? Hell no, he had a qb friendly, offensive smart hc in sean payton. Rex is QB killer, not just the other team, our team. MM was the best move Rex has ever made.

Rex is a QB killer?  What QB has he killed?  Sanchez?  Tebow?  McElroy? Clemens?  Brunnel?

lmfao

You people.  The guy made Sanchez a winner and he's a QB killer.  Cant make this sh*t up.

Ummm, no it wasn't.

Don't trip over your clown shoes, Brod:

http://nypost.com/2013/12/08/russell-wilson-nearly-was-a-jet/

Careers are made and waylaid by twists of fate and circumstance.

Russell Wilson nearly was a Jet.

It has been documented that current senior director of college scouting Terry Bradway was pounding the table so hard in the Jets’ war room in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft for Russell Wilson that they began calling him Russell Bradway.

The Jets had the 77th pick in the third round. They had selected Quinton Coples in the first round and Stephen Hill in the second. What if the Seahawks hadn’t picked Wilson two spots ahead of the Jets?

“He would have been in the discussion,” then-Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said.

Tannenbaum, now spearheading the growth of Priority Sports & Entertainment, and the Jets had kicked the tires on Peyton Manning, then gave Mark Sanchez $8.25 million guaranteed for the 2013 season, then signed Tim Tebow. So quarterback was not a priority. And Wilson had played baseball at North Carolina State before quarterbacking Wisconsin for one season.

Bradway didn’t care. He didn’t care that Wilson was 5-foot-10 5/8. He loved Wilson’s intangibles. He saw a quarterback who could make all the throws.

But so did the Seahawks.

The Jets made no attempt to trade up. They drafted Demario Davis, the linebacker who replaced Bart Scott and has a chance to be a 10-year starter and leader.

Well, ok.

1. The idea that Rex would give Russell Wilson the chance to beat out Sanchez is LOL territory.

2. No one credited McCarthy with picking Rodgers.

3. The Saints have Brees because they were smart.

Point being, in response to the original post, those teams didn't luck into any of those QBs. If the poster wanted an example of a coach lucking into a QB, he should have pointed toward Brady.

That's the spirit!  I knew you had it in you, Tom.

I won't argue with your point on #1, as Rex obviously handled Sanchez like absolute crap.  That's not really up for debate.  But to rightfully spread the wealth to more Jets folks (i.e., Tanny), they have also had no alternative anywhere close to the level of Wilson on their roster either.

As far as 2 and 3 go, while the respective teams no doubt handled the position FAAAAAR greater than the Jets did, I guess I just don't see how that translates to McCarthy and Payton.  Especially when you consider McCarthy dealt with 3 of Favre's nonsensical "retirements" before finally moving on (and yes, I'm aware of the irony here, but this is in no way intended to defend the Jets' incompetence, even though I am still grateful to Favre for ridding us of the noodle).  More than anything, outside of a few rare instances where there's real reason to believe that a coach was clearly responsible for grooming a particular QB, I'm not sure why they deserve praise for being given a far superior talent to work with at the position.

None of this is meant to compare Rex to any of these guys when it comes to offense, because that's just absurd, rather just point out that when all is said and done, the QB means about a million times more than the coach, and despite different opinions around here on the latter, I think we can all agree that the former has been hot garbage for a long time for this team.

That was Bradway.

Yeah, by all accounts Bradway had a serious rager for Wilson, and was flipping a sh*t in the draft room about it, too.  While I'm not foolish enough to really believe things would have worked out as well for the Jets as it did the Seahawks had they made the move, you still have to wonder what could have been.

understand w/Idzik here, rex would have no choice but to give Wilson a shot..he has been Offensively de-neutered

In horse racing they put blinders on the horses- with Rex he had blinders on with the offense from the start

i don't understand the concept of "de-neutering"--do they glue the balls back on? After 7 years of marriage i might be interested in such a procedure

I think (I could be wrong, but signs point that way) that part of Rex can come back celebration last year was MM is more involved and Rex demanding ground/pound to help his D days were over..

I was at the Wynn in 2005 and jumped in on a game. Me and this Chinese guy were on fire for about 45 minutes. I won about 1500 and then the rumble in the stomach started. It was about 9 pm and I cashed out ( Chinese guy says where the **** are you going ). Race to really nice bathroom in Wynn casino and make a furious deposit. Then when I'm trying to leave the bathroom one of the shows must have just finished. A rip current of people just kept flowing into the bathroom. I couldn't get out of there

He benched him one time for Greg McElroy to protect him from getting booed at home after he threw four picks against the Titans the week before, then went right back to him after McElroy came down with a concussion.

correct me if im wrong but your magic qb thought is not on rex.

Ted Thompson brought in Rodgers to mature behind Favre.

Saints GM (not sure his name) brought brees as a FA.

Elway pushed for manning.

Tannebaum made Sanchez the franchise qb, with an undeserved extension as well.

Idzik brought geno in to compete.

How can you blame rex?

Sanchez was the best qb rex ever had as a head coach until geno was drafted and then a vet is still better then a rookie.

And who knows who would've started or what would've happened if Sanchez wasn't injured.

it would've been very interesting if sanchez hadn't gotten hurt. i think he probably would've started game 1. but would rex have had the sack to bench him at some point during the season for a rook? dunno. another question is what if sanchez played just good enough to hang on... would he still be a jet?

Rex benched him for Greg ******* McElroy.  Of course he would "have the sack" to bench him for a 2nd round pick. Sanchez would not still be a Jet unless it was at a vastly reduced rate because Idzik appears to be making personnel decisions.  Whether he is good or bad at it may be up for debate, but he is certainly not wasting cap space on stiffs like Sanchez.  If he were, Cromartie would still be a Jet.
