IMO, the average coach is worse than the bad coach because the average coach sticks around forever, like Herm. These are my anxieties

And how manny times have we had a top 5 worst team in the league?  Oh boy do I miss those days. It was so much better watching the team win 4 games in two years under Kotite.  lol  Top 5 picks rule!   :D

Oh, I'm not saying he hasn't had his awful performances. But as far as I'm concerned, even those disasters aren't as bad as the likes of the sh*t we saw in even Herm's "best" season as a coach with the Jordan halfback pass or the Steelers'... I don't know what the **** to call that. But then again, those comparisons are probably like arguing over which pile of sh*t smells worse, so what's the point, really?

The 2011 collapse is worse than anything that happened under Herm. In my lifetime I'd put it second to the 1-15 season, and the embarrassment in Denver might actually push it to 1B.

That nobody lost their job within five minutes of that Thanksgiving game scares me to this day as it regards the organizational structure of this team. Even Wilpon would have hung someone out to dry.

Kris Jenkins in the SNY postgame that day was all-time amazeballs. I wish I could find a clip of that somewhere.

Herm's highlights included going bonkers in a press conference and acting all Frodo over a bunch of glazed donuts. Rex's highlights include having mental breakdowns in press conferences, foot fetish videos, and a Mark Sanchez tattoo.

And crying all the time, and having a ceremonial funeral for a football, and acting in an Adam Sandler movie...

Also, Belicheat isn't the best Coach in football,

If Rex Ryan made it to 5 AFC Championship games and advanced to 2 Super Bowls in 8 years after winning 3 Super Bowls in 4, and anyone on this board didn't call him the best coach in the league; you would quit your job in order to convince all of them otherwise through an assault of YouTube clips and 10,000 word essays the likes of which the internet has never seen.

First off Go Jets!

I have to say I'm not, nor have ever been a Rex fan. I honestly don't get the love for him. Maybe it's because I live outside of NY and I get a objective opinion? No one outside of NY wants Rex as a HC. Heres my biggest problems with him.

1) He's a very good DC but thats literally all he can do. And if you ask me he's a little overrated. How good was our defense last year. And this year it doesn't look any better. Our #1 CB was benched several times and was one of the worst players in the league. Not just worst CB's, but worse players. Our #2 and 3 guys are uproven to say the least. Our linebackers are slow and can't cover for the life of them. Teams have been eating us alive in the middle of the field for years. Honestly I don't have high hopes for this defense right now. Hopefully I'm wrong. They will be tested early and often as the first 12 games are brutal.

2) People keep saying his players love him but how many good coaches have lost two locker rooms in their tenure? Rex has lost this team a few times. That speaks volumes about his leadership.

3) His player development has been awful. There have been countless bust on this team since he took over and the list is getting longer. Unless serious talent is given to him he hasn't shown the ability to "coach up a player".

4) People also like to make excuses for him by saying the offense has sucked. Well why has it sucked? He's the HC and should develop talent, bring in coaches that actually know what their doing and get effective players on that side of the ball. He's the reason the offense has been horrible.

5) People in NY might like the sh*t he says but he's considered a joke and has made the jets a joke outside of NY. He's brought on so much attention and hasn't delivered at all. And when he doesn't deliver it's "nothing to see here", after making foolish statements year after year. Not to mention the off the field bullsh*t that has been a complete embarrassment.

6) His in game adjustments and clock management has been less than good at times every year.

I'm sorry but he's not the only guy that can coach defense and while his defense has been very good at times, it's also been so-so. We can do much better than him. There is talent everywhere. On other coaching staffs, college coaches etc.

if the Jets had the 17th best QB in the league they'd be in business.

Here's my offer to all the Rex haters if the Jets can hire a top 16 HC to replace Rex, by all means.

Exactly. If your titties ain't rock hard about having a coach who just barely cracks the 50th percentile, you need to stop brushing with the hate-paste before marching in the hate parade with all the other haterbaters while you watch hate porn and hate donkeypunch each other.

The thing is 1-5 is exactly my opinion.

1) He's a very good defensive coach. Thats it. His defense's have been bery good but also just decent. When you spend so much time drafting only D your defense should be lights out every year.

2) It's a fact that he lost his locker room more than once.

3) Look at some of the bust on this team or players that haven't really developed into anything. Hill, Davis, Coples, Sanchez etc. Not all are bust but it obvious he hasn;t developed them.

4) The offense has suffered greatly becasue of the attention the defense has got. Look at all the draft picks and FA signings that were geared towards D.

5) Hate to say it but outside of Jet and people don't think highly of Rex at all.

Not if was a Pats fan and Rex cheated through those championship years and haven't won the big game since being exposed as a cheater.

And I also read your response about Pete Carroll only being here because he got busted in College and they're all not saints. The reality is that Belicheat was caught so his history, like all cheaters are tainted. Pete Carroll didnt get busted in anything on this level so his past doesn't matter regarding this topic. Im not saying that Belicheat isn't a top coach in this league, but I can certainly make the argument that Both Carroll and Coughlin are better than Belichick right now today.

Great post, but this was my favorite part. There's this fantasy among Jets fans that Rex is considered a supergenius inevery other market, and it's only the eeeeeevil Jets haters that refuse to acknowledge his wizardry. It's not the case.

no there isn't.  most simply just point out he can coach defense and there is value to that.

Jim Caldwell ahead of Rex, really? Are you kidding me, in what world!?

I also have a problem with Chuck Pagano being ahead of Rex, the man has capitalized on an atrocious division and is 1-2 in the playoffs with a better QB than Rex has ever had and likely will ever have.

Chip Kelly has done nothing so far, he hasn't even won a playoff game, so one year of winning a terrible division gives him that credibility? ridiculous.

And Mike Smith, I don't get it, 1 playoff win in 6 seasons, and without Matt Ryan that team would have gone nowhere.

Yeah, Rex should be #13, not #17! Suck it, haters!

Rex is an average coach. No point in arguing over 2 or 3 spots. Also outside of NY Rex is looked upon as a good HC. With all the attention and draft picks/FA's this defense has had it should be top 5 shut down. It's not. Look at out LB's and secondary and tell me it's going to be better than last year. And the problems we've had on offense can be attributed directly to him! Bad in game calls and clock managemnet make him an average at best HC. He's right where he should be.

Our secondary should be better than last year. With the additions of Pryor, McDougle, and if Patterson can stay healthy he's an upgrade over Cro.

I don't understand how you can say that. It's just not looking at things from an objective pov. Rookie DB's struggle 99% of the time. Look no further than Dee last year. Who was just god awful. McDougle is having a hard time in camp so far and to call Patterson an upgrade over Cro is just being a homer. In fact saying our secondary will be better is being a homer. There's no evidence at all to support it. Cro was really bad last year but he's always better than a guy who can't play. Plus we all know Cro wasn't healthy.
