Lost my passion for the Jets

Hey guys, cool forum. Been reading for a while before I decided to start posting.

I am a mid 40's Jets fan, and I have really lost my passion for the Jets the past few years. Really started in the offseason of 2011, and is getting worse and worse every single season. I used to truly love the Jets, I mean love them. My moods during football season would follow a Jet win or loss for the whole week.

I find that while I am still a Jet fan, I just don't care nearly as much about them anymore.

I despise the owner, I think Rex while a likeable guy, is nothing more than a mediocre HC who acts like a clown, and I think Idzik is Mr. Conservative who will play for 9-7 every year.

I see most of you here are really high on Rex and Idzik, and I just don't get it. I mean, being a Jet fan for as long as I have, I get that average and mediocre are much better than most of our history, but why should that be enough? Why shouldn't we have a great team? Why do we have to settle for Geno Smith? Why do we draft DB or DL with virtually every 1st round pick we have?

This whole team is designed for eternal 7-9 to 9-7. The d will always be good enough to avoid complete disaster, and the O will never be good enough to be more than slightly above, below average. Rex is a cure, he is not good enough to take us to the promise land, and not bad enough to can him.

I think many Jets fans are disillusioned by incredibly good fortune in 09 and 10, I really do.

Anyway, I know most disagree with me and to each their own, this is just my take on the state of the Jets.

I hear ya buddy.

I can't stand Rex, Woody or Idzy.

We as fans settle for average. I mean the way we talk about "back 2 back afcgc" it's like we should hang a banner for losing those games. People fool themselves into thinkong Sancho or Geno are any good and if not Vick will come in and save the day. We have a guy who couldn't complete more the 10 passes in a month and one of the most injury prone, TO prone, inaccurate, worst pocket awareness QB's in the history of the game. Again it's like we just accept competing for a WC spot, even though we won't make the po's. And just concede the div to the Pats. Which makes being a jet fan that much worse. I mean the last 15 years have been pretty successful by our standards but it's not even close to what they have accomplished. They have done more in the last 15-20 years then we have in our entire history. Multiple SB wins and appearences, just owning the div etc. It goes on and on. Just sux

Lets be honest, we play in a horrible stadium, we have no QB, a moron owner. We sign dog killers who suck. We are basically an eternal 8-8 team. Our HC is a good enough DC to keep us from ever having a shot at a top QB prospect. It's eternal mediocrity for us. I suppose that is better than 3-13, but by how much?

Pretty much sums it up. Good post.

We have a QB worth giving a chance to.  On the other side, Phil Simms sucked with a few good flourishes for his first few years, and Eli was basically considered a Sanchez on his way out until he got the picture.  Geno got put into a team with the crappiest receiving corps I've seen on a professional unit, and then injuries made it worse.  It's worthy to note that when the lone established pro WR, Kerley, returned from injury and David Nelson, a midseason pickup, finally had time to gel with the offense, we won most of our games.  Geno seems to have an easy throwing motion that looks like he's throwing a 5 yard pass and the ball goes 35 or 40 yards, a very good sign.  After two disasters at Offensive Coordinator we have a real good one and are putting the pieces together.  If you can hang in there with Schottenheimer and Sparano, you can hang in there with Mornhinweg and Geno.

Good points wizard!

This is nowhere near as bad as it has been, of course. That does not make it good either.

Of course Geno can improve, in fact, it would be hard not to considering how bad he was.

That said, I don't see how we don't draft a QB other than Boyd in this past draft. Its funny, everyone here wants to give the Jets a free pass for not having a QB, yet find it totally acceptable to not draft a QB in this past draft. Everyone wants to say its pure luck when you get a QB, but you cannot get lucky unless you are drafting them.

Until this franchise gets people in here who can identify, and develop a QB, we will always be hoping to squeak into the playoffs. For some, that may be enough, for me its not. To each his own.

I deplore the direction of the team since 2011, its been horrible. Not in terms of a horrible result, but it is destined for eternal mediocrity.

Last years 8-8 was wildly misleading. Our point differential was more of that of a 5-11 team. We can see a big improvement in play and go 8-8 again. If you look at it objectively, that is what we pretty much are every year with Rex. 09 would have been 8-8 had the Colts played Manning, 10 was 11-5 but 13 was 6-10. For the most part, this has been a 8-8 team. If you like that, knock yourself out, enjoy.

You could have saved yourself and everyone else a ton of time and just said you're upset we didn't take one of the QBs, who most of the league and many of the "experts" came away thoroughly unimpressed by.

Funny.... I think we could get rid of 80% of the posts on this site, and save everyones time by just saying:

"We, Jet fans, are self loathing and love Rex, Idzik and Woody because we know we are not worthy of actually sniffing a real team with a real chance of a SB"

And you all can save your time by just saying, I enjoy mediocrity because I am too afraid of failure to actually sniff real success.

So, not agreeing with you = fear of failure. Nailed it!

Other than the inability to define "real success," this is pretty much true.

Those clinging to blind faith fear the skeptic.

Ill admit it, Rexy had me duped for a while. I hated the hire, but after 2010 I came around, even though the Steelers debacle should have been a warning. But by 2011 I knew I had been duped by a fraud. Its amazing how Rexy has duped 80% of the fan base. I thought Jet fans were smarter than that. Its either they are duped, or really are just happy with mediocrity. Either way, I am not.

I don't have high hopes for Geno. I think his upside is a slightly below average NFL starting QB, no higher, and I am not convinced he will even reach his upside. Marty may be a good OC, but I am not convinced he is. I will say he is a far better OC than Rex is a HC, so I guess at least he has that going for him. I don't know how any Jet fan alive still had any faith in Rex after the Sparano debacle.

Great why are you still here? Not sure what you mean by the steeler debacle because its not rex fault our guys forgot how to tackle rashard mendenhall or schotty was too inept in figuring how to get 1 yard. If you lost your passion as you say you have you wouldn't be responding so volatilely to the people who think you're a troll. And if you are a troll are you trying to go trying to get banned within 48 hours mark, cause thats impressive and you're on your way.

We get it you think you're smarter and more knowledgable than all the Jets fan. Thank god you graced us with your presence on this forum. It's shocking that you yourself have not figured out a way to buy the Jets and singlehandely fix the team...oh thats right you're not passionate enough about the team to care. If you want to talk real football feel free to so Villian can knock you down with real facts. Otherwise exit stage left

Hmmm... I am here, and still here to try to discuss the Jets.

I strongly disagree with you regarding the steelers game. Tackling is about effort and mindset. The Jets read their press clippings, and Rex was not able to get his team to put forth a big effort in the biggest game he has coached in. A good HC does not allow that to happen.

Trying to troll? Why, because I came to a Jets board to discuss the state of the Jets and I happen to disagree with the "all is great with the Jets" mentality that most Jets fans have, despite not having a QB, not have a real HC, and having Herman Munster as their GM? I am not disparaging anyone on this message board, I am being respectful. If having different opinions gets me banned, so be it, I would not want to be here anyway if that is the case.

I don't think I am smarter than anyone, but I do think the majority of Jets fans have been duped. Hey, plenty of smart people get duped, it happens.

Short of the last 3 years, I have been the biggest Jet fan I know. I have lived and breathed Jets since I was around 8 years old. I literally got so sick in elementary school after the AJ Duey game that I missed school for 3 days. Until the PSL's, I missed about 3 home games since I was 10. I think the trio of Woody, Herman Munster and Rex is destined for 7-9 to 9-7 for ever, for those who are ok with that, thats cool, I want more. I think we Jets fans deserve more.

Everyone here? Clearly you haven't been lurking too long. You should've stopped by when there were new threads everyday lamenting the fact that the Jets failed to take a QB in the first round. That debate just grew tired, but I'm sure will be revived if Manziel, Bridgewater, or Carr looks like an NFL QB anytime soon.

I was a little disappointed they didn't take the best of the rest in the fourth round, but I get giving Geno a shot this year before going all in on another QB the year after drafting him in the second. If you really want the team to develop a QB, maybe you can give them a couple years to do it.

This is one of my favorite anti-Rex arguments. He's too good to let the team fall to a Kotitian type record and get himself fired, so we should fire him. If Mornhinweg and Geno can put together an offense that's just top half in the league, and limit the turnovers, this is a playoff team with Rex's dee. I don't know how many other coaching candidates would come with that sort of guarantee.

But do they reach the AFC Championship Game with Mark Sanchez at QB? Twice?

I like it when you make the "Rex got to the AFCCG despite Mark Sanchez," argument, then do a quick heel turn to tell us how impossible it would have been for him to ever bench a QB he won in spite of. It's like you've applied Jerry Seinfeld's two-week rule for dumping women, but it's two years.

remember the secondary he had vs manning the first time ( I think) smith at safety and scrubs at nickel and dime.  he played pass defense all day and dared manning to run.  everybody was talking all week about his exotic over load blitzes, he played covereage.  you can ell he was right there with manning in the chess match and you don't see that often

LOL! I was paying for season tickets every year and going to every game when we were 1-15 and 3-13, yeah, I am sure a fair weather fan.

Join the club, chief. You clearly have missed the entire point of why one buys season tickets in the first place. Hint.... It's not football
