My question is why? Here is a guy, a nice player, but one who is 37. He never was a power hitter until the past 6 years or so, and struggled big time last season. He would seem to be someone who picked up steroids, and then dropped them the past year or so. I do not want to accuse him of anything, but...........

For the Mets fans out there, explain this potential signing. Please.

Every team looks for a gem in their minor league contract signings so to me it is not a big deal if Mets sign him in that respect.

Hernandez and Marlon Anderson turned out last year with this approach

The latest that I read the Mets are willing to eat 4-5 million to get rid of Matsui

That is a nice chunk of change to eat.

If I was Omar, I would rather give the job to the rookie, especially since he is reputed to be an excellent fielder. Any hitting would be a bonus.

MBN I agree I would like to see Keppinger get a chance also-reminded me of Wally Backman with his play two years ago-
