Donnie Henderson?

Wsup Jets Fans,

Donnie Henderson...I like him as a person, coach and what he's done for that defense the last couple of years. Specifically in terms of the younger players like Vilma, Robertson and Rhodes. Lately, Henderson's name has been in the mix as a head coach candidate pursued by several different teams. What are you guys' thoughts are on Henderson and the prospect of him leaving or even as possibility as the Jets next HC if Edwards departs?

Thanks

Let him coach the D and make it a great one, so far he has only done so-so.

I am still trying to figure out

we seemed to be more passive on defense this year as opposed to last year

Could it be attributed at least somewhat to the inability of the offense to protect the football, control the clock and score?...

Jets offensive rankings '05 vs '04:

2005:

8th in most giveaways(35)

29th in scoring (15 ppg)

31st in total offense (248.1 ypg)

32nd in Time of Posession (26:37)

2004:

32nd in most giveaways (16)

17th in scoring (20.8 ppg)

12th in total offense (339.9 ypg)

4th in Time of Posession (31:51)

Alot more pressure on Henderson and that defense this season than in '04, right?

For some reason which I am still trying to figure out

we seemed to be more passive on defense this year as opposed to last year with Henderson

This year was a step back in his credentials

as much as this sounds like an excuse i really think henderson was trying to avoid giving up the big play on defense. if your offense can't score (and we did go 2 games w/o a TD) then you cannot afford to give up the big play and the 'bend don't break' approach makes a lot of sense.

henderson definitely regressed this year, but it can't all go on him.

Ah, I see your point. But consider this...that Bears def allowed an avg 17.5 pts vs their 4 AFC Opponents (@Pitt 21, @ Cle 20, BAL 6, and Cincy 24). That's 5 more points than their 12.6 ppg allowed on the season and 1 more pt than their offense scores per game (16.5).

And that 17.5 papg allowed against AFC opponents is heavily skewed by BAL's 6 points. Otherwise the avg is 21.6...not much less than NYJ's 22 papg avg this season and 5 more points than their offense avg's per game.

That said, Do you honestly think the bears would allow 12.6 ppg against the following teams on their schedule?:

New England twice

Miami Twice

Buf Twice

Kansas City

San Diego

Denver

Oakland

Jacksonville

I doubt it. If anything it'd be +20. Especially with 5 of those opponents ranking in the top 15 in takeways and Kyle Orton starting 15 of 16 games. So don't try to imply that because the Bears rank well with a poor offense that theres no excuse for Henderson and that Jets def to fall off from '04. Theres alot more to the picture than that.

plus i think jet d problem was herm messin with agressive schemes over the offseason,, he de-nutted donnies dTheres alot more to the picture than that.
